Video Scene Change Detection Using Support Vector Clustering

As digitisation era will come, a large number of multimedia datas (image, video, etc.) are stored in the database by digitisation, and its retrieval system is more and more important. Video is huge in frames amount, in order to search effectively and fast, the first step will detect and examine the place where the scene changes in the video, cut apart the scene, find out the key frame from each scene, regard as analysis that the index file searches with the key frame. The scene changes the way and divides into the abrupt and the gradual transition. But in the video, even if in the same scene, incident of often violent movements or the camera are moving etc. happens, and obscure with the gradual transition to some extent. Thus this papper gets the main component from every frame in the video using principal component analysis (PCA), reduce the noise to interfere, and classify these feauture points with support vector clustering, it is the same class that the close feature points is belonged to. If the feature points are located between two groups of different datas, represent the scene is changing slowly in the video, detect scene change by this.

A Study of Current Operation and Problems Faced by the Sports Teams of Public Elementary Schools in Kaohsiung

This study aims to explore the current operation, its effects and problems faced by the Sports Teams of public elementary schools in Kaohsiung. With the adoption of questionnaire, the study has investigated the opinions of the student's affair directors, sports group leaders, guiding coaches (the teachers) and the full-time coaches who have practically participated in the operation of sports teams of public elementary schools. The research tool of the study is ¡§A Questionnaire of Current Operation and Problems Faced by the Sports Teams of Public Elementary Schools in Kaohsiung.¡¨ There are 243 copies (from 81 schools) of the questionnaire have been retrieved. The retrieving percentage is 93.1. Through analyzing the statistical materials obtaining from the questionnaire, the following conclusions are made: 1. Most operators of the sports teams are male graduated from non-sports colleges. 2. In average, each school has 3.2 teams of different events with the track and field teams mostly. 3. The primary function of parents' support association is to increase the funds and resources for the sports teams. 4. Most of the guiding coaches are male with interest or specialty in sport. 5. Most of the team members are the voluntary students from different classes. 6. Most of the sports teams have training plans. 7. Most of the schools pay much attention to the counseling and the daily behaviors of team members. 8. The period of service of the sports team leader shows obvious relevance with the sports performance of the team. 9. The effects of carrying on the sports teams are outstanding. 10. Lack of inducement is the primary reason why the teachers will not to take the work of directing the sports teams. According to the research results and conclusions, the study offers suggestions separately to the educational administration institutes, the administrative units of school and future research.

The current trend of learning is towards distant learning. Using distance learners¡¦ learning portfolios recorded by Web Site can help teachers understanding the learning state of students. Teachers can encourage or supervise students through Email based on their different behavior. Eventually, we hope to enhance students¡¦ participation and interest when they are attending distant learning. We develop learning support mechanisms using portfolios in order to help teacher understanding the learning status of students conveniently and easy to apply mechanisms in distant learning environment. Finally, we will assess the effects of mechanisms to prove it can help students positively. The results will drawing in two parts. First, students accepted encouragement and supervision from teachers were enthusiastically than students don¡¦t accepted encouragement and supervision from teachers when attended each unit of test and synchronous conference. Second, according the questionnaire appears both groups of students agreed that teacher should encourage or supervise them according their learning behavior. In a word, students really need help from teacher at the right moment. And our research have proved that distant learning environment need provide convenient mechanisms for teachers.

A research on constructing data warehouse in support of order procurement for steel industry

Failure to identify major target market and lack of cost management have shown to be negative for enterprise operations. To remedy these two problems information technologies have promised to support effective and efficent decision-making processing by providing accurate and real-time information, so as to assist front-line sales, to lower down costs, to create more profits and to further diversified the risks. In steel industry, the repeated purchasing frequency (associated with customer loyalty) has been identified as one of the major determinants due to the narrow target market and capital-intensive features existed in steel business. Steel businesses often involve international transactions, which have much higher uncertainties than domestic transactions. Therefore, the major risk control task is on the collection and analysis customers¡¦ creditability. More customer information leads to fewer risks. As such, we believe that by applying the methodology of collecting and analyzing information through information technologies, the decision makers will be more confident in making correct decisions, which in turn help to generate profits. In this thesis, we develop a data warehouse system in support of order procurement. We begin by identifying the types of information that is crucial in making order procurement decision by consulting with the experienced international and domestic front-line sales managers. The different types of information are prioritized by applying Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) approach. We then construct a datawarehouse model that encompasses these information. A system prototype is finally developed to demonstrate the feasiblity of our approach.

The effects of work experiences and institutional support on job satisfaction among NCAA coaches

The primary purposes of this study were to explore the relationships among four work experiences (i.e., job variety, job autonomy, job stress, and job feedback) and coaches?? job satisfaction to examine the influence of institutional support (i.e., affective institutional support and financial institutional support) on job satisfaction, and to investigate if the relationship between the type of institutional support and job satisfaction differs (does not differ) between revenue generating sport coaches and non-revenue-generating sport coaches. To achieve these purposes this study examined the relationships among four work experiences and institutional support variables on job satisfaction. This study also examined differences between revenue-generating sport and non-revenue-generating sport coaches. Coaches (N = 599) in 7 sports (i.e., football, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, volleyball, and tennis) from NCAA Division I schools were asked to participate in this study. The response rate was a 34.7 % (208 / 599). Participants included 145 males and 63 females. Of the 208 completed and returned questionnaires, 100 (48.1%) were from revenue sport coaches (i.e., football and basketball). Meanwhile, 108 (51.9 %) were from non-revenue sport coaches. The results indicated that job variety, job stress, job feedback, affective institutional support, and financial institutional support were significantly related to job satisfaction. Namely, these three job experiences and two types of institutional support in the organizational environment impacted coaches?? attitudes, or job satisfaction. Further, for revenue generating sport coaches, financial institutional support was a significant indicator of job satisfaction; however, for non-revenue-generating sport coaches, affective institutional support held a stronger relationship to job satisfaction than did financial institutional support. Additionally, one of the job experience variables, job feedback, played a meaningful role to both coaches of revenue sports and coaches of nonrevenue sports in shaping job satisfaction.

The impact of identity and power on marital social support behavior

Identity and power are important components of any relationship, especially one as intimate as the connection between marital partners. Social support is expected and elicited within these relationships, however most social support researchers have not incorporated sociological theoretical orientations that would provide insight into the structural components of the relationship and their impact. Using ideas derived from Identity Control Theory and Power Dependence Theory this research investigates the impact of these powerful social factors. Specifically, I hypothesize that marital partners who are similar in their identities will be better able to offer social support in conversations in which those identities are salient. I also hypothesize that partners who are similar in structural power will offer more support than those who are dissimilar.

Examination of supervisor assessments of employee work-life conflict, supervisor support, and subsequent outcomes

Research in the work-life area has typically concerned individuals' assessments of their own conflict. The current study went beyond this by examining supervisor assessments of employee conflict and how they relate to the support given to employees. This support, traditionally measured using a unidimensional measure of support, was measured with a multidimensional measure that differentiates eight separate forms of support, including listening, emotional, emotional challenge, reality confirmation, task appreciation, task challenge, tangible assistance, and personal assistance support. Additionally, the amount of personal contact between the supervisor and the employee and the extent to which the supervisor likes the employee were examined as potential moderators of the relationship between supervisor assessments and the support given. Further, employee satisfaction with supervisor support, as well as the potential moderating role of the need for support on the relationship between the provided support and the employee's satisfaction with the support, were explored. Finally, employee satisfaction with the eight forms of support and subsequent outcomes (i.e., subsequent work-life conflict, job satisfaction, turnover intentions, organizational commitment, and job performance) as they relate to the provided support were examined. Data were collected from 114 pairs of employees and supervisors. Employees were assessed at two time periods two weeks apart whereas supervisors were assessed at one time period, within five days of the employee's first time period. Results showed that supervisor assessments of employee work-life conflict were either unrelated or negatively related to the eight forms of support. Additionally, it appears that when supervisors perceived employees as having a high degree of work-to-life conflict, they provided relatively high and relatively equal amounts of emotional challenge and reality confirmation support to employees regardless of how much they liked them. When supervisors perceived employee work-to-life conflict as being low, however, they provided significantly more emotional challenge and reality confirmation support when they liked the employee as opposed to when they did not like the employee. Furthermore, the relationship between emotional challenge support and job satisfaction was mediated by satisfaction with emotional challenge support, the relationship between task appreciation support and affective commitment was mediated by satisfaction with task appreciation support, and the relationship between task appreciation support and job satisfaction was mediated by satisfaction with task appreciation support. Finally, when emotional challenge support was provided, greater levels of support led to greater employee satisfaction, especially if there was a need for the support. However, when reality confirmation support was provided, employees were less satisfied with the support when a large amount of support was provided and the employees' need for support was low.

The experience of social support at a camp for siblings of children with cancer

Childhood cancer has obvious impacts on the children themselves, but also has impacts on their families and siblings. While studies have been conducted on the impacts of cancer on children and their parents, there has been limited consideration of the impacts of cancer on healthy siblings. Some studies have suggested that siblings of children with cancer are the most emotionally disregarded and distressed of all family members as a result of their sibling having cancer. Exposure to stress has a negative impact on the immune system and places siblings at risk for health problems. Thus, finding mechanisms to ameliorate stress are critical. Early intervention and treatment may serve as protective factors against risky behavior and lead to more normative child development and well-being. One method of improving the psychosocial adjustment of siblings of children with cancer has been through interventions such as camp experiences that include opportunities for campers to experience social support. There is a need to better understand the efficacy of intervention programs designed to reduce stress across a variety of settings. The focus of this study was if campers experience social support (emotional, informational, and instrumental) at a three and one-half day residential camp, and the elements of camp campers' identified as leading to social support. Participant observations of camp and semi-structured interviews with selected campers were used to help gain insights concerning the impact of the camp experience on siblings of children with cancer. Coding of responses was undertaken, which led to the identification of themes and subthemes. Findings provided a narrative description of how campers perceived social support. In addition, social comparison was identified as a critical mechanism for meeting camper's biological, physiological and behavioral needs. Overarching perceptions of campers were that people at camp were nice and staff was instrumental in facilitating universality and a cycle of reciprocity. Implications of this study suggest intentionally designed camps have the ability to impact a broad range of attitudes and behaviors. The study also supports theory of how structures and processes of social relationships work in relation to good health; and can be applied to a camp setting.

An Effective Feature Selection for Protein Fold Recognition

The protein fold recognition problem is one of the important topics in biophysics. It is believed that the primary structure of a protein is helpful to drawing its three-dimensional (3D) structure. Given a target protein (a sequence of amino acids), the protein fold recognition problem is to decide which fold group of some protein structure database the target protein belongs to. Since more than two fold groups are to be located in this problem, it is a multi-class classification problem. Recently, many researchers have solved this problem by using the popular machine learning tools, such as neural networks (NN) and support vector machines (SVM). In this thesis, we use the SVM tool to solve this problem. Our strategy is to find out the effective features which can be used as an efficient guide to the classification problem. We build the feature preference table to help us to find out effective feature combinations quickly. We take 27 well-known fold groups in SCOP (Structural Classification of Proteins) as our data set. Our experimental results show that our method achieves the overall prediction accuracy of 61.4%, which is better than the previous method (56.5%). With the same feature combinations, our prediction accuracy is also higher than the previous results. These results show that our method is indeed effective for the fold recognition problem.
