A Method to Enhance the Performance of Synthetic Origin-Destination (O-D) Trip Table Estimation Models

Nanda, Dhruv 09 June 1997 (has links)
The conventional methods of determining the Origin-Destination (O-D) trip tables involve elaborate surveys, such as home interviews, requiring considerable time, manpower and funds. To overcome this drawback, a number of theoretical models that synthesize O-D trip tables from link volume data have been developed in the past. The focus of this research was on two of these models, namely, The Highway Emulator (THE) and the Linear Programming (LP) models. These models use target/seed tables for guiding the modeled trip tables. In an earlier research effort conducted by Virginia Tech Center for Transportation Research, potential was noted for enhancing these models' performances by using a superior target/seed table. This research study exploits the readily available socio-economic/census data and link volume information and proposes a methodology for obtaining improved target/seed tables, by performing the trip generation and trip distribution steps. This table was provided as target to THE and LP models, and their performances evaluated using Pulaski town as case study. In addition to measuring the closeness of the output tables to surveyed tables and their capability to replicate observed volumes, their improvements over the case when a structural table is used as target was also studied. Tests showed that the use of the superior target/seed table significantly improved the performance of the LP model. However, for THE, mixed trends are seen in terms of different measures of closeness. The sensitivity of the user parameter to place certain degree of belief on the target/seed table for LP model was also analyzed. / Master of Science

[en] GRADUATION METHODS UNDER PARAMETRIC AND NON-PARAMETRIC MODELS FOR SELECT AND ULTIMATE TABLES / [pt] METODOLOGIAS DE CONSTRUÇÃO DE TÁBUAS BIOMÉTRICAS SELETAS E FINAIS A PARTIR DE MODELOS PARAMÉTRICOS E NÃO-PARAMÉTRICOS

FABIO GARRIDO LEAL MARTINS 04 March 2008 (has links)
[en] This study represents an approach to the main methods of life tables construction. It shows traditional graduation techniques for cases including high exposure data, as well a methodology for few data. Further more, this study generates a discussion about select life tables construction, in particular disability mortality tables. Data set from Rio de Janeiro officials population were used for mortality and disability mortality tables construction. In addition, a select disability mortality table was constructed based on the INSS urban disability retired population.

A review about the analytic use of data from complex structures

Pereira, Gislaine Rocha 30 September 2016 (has links)
This work was carried out a literature review about the methodologies found in the literature of how the methods for data analytical use from research involving complex sampling schemes are applied. It was aimed to show and discuss some studies that assess the impact of ignoring the sampling scheme in the data analysis. It was also made a survey of articles in order to make a study of works published in newspapers, magazines or periodicals, which addressed issues dealing with the incorporation of the complex structure of the sample in the analysis. This review shown that the classical methods of analysis, i.e. those who assume that the data comes from a simple random sampling can lead to incorrect results producing quite erroneous and misleading conclusions when the data come from complex sample schemes.

Apropriação do espaço público no bairro da Vila Madalena em São Paulo / When the streets turns beach - Tables` street

Saes, Francisco Gonçalves da Cunha 16 April 2014 (has links)
This work has as object the tables on the sidewalks in the streets of the neighborhood located at West of the city of São Paulo and the relations of coexistence and conflict in the space appropriation, inherent in the urban experience process, making the dimension of living experience and the ongoing changes in the location. Part on the assumption that there is only a street while various socialization process are promoted, otherwise the street becomes one and only one route of urban transport, or a simple place of passage. It investigates the transformation constrains present in the neighborhood\' streets and its impacts on the daily lives of city dwellers and theirs living experiences, addressing the adverse local conditions, which are revealed at least uncomfortable due to noise, traffic and the large influx of people to the site, in search of pleasure in the name of culture and tourism. It lists current issues in conflicts in the setting of public spaces in the contemporary city and everyday life in times of local change in face of real estate speculation.
