What's not to like? : Historiebruk kring Ivan Aguéli 1920-2020 / What's not to like? : Use of history concerning Ivan Aguéli 1920-2020

Arvidsson Lille, Johan January 2020 (has links)
This essay studies the use of history concerning the Swedish nineteenth century painter Ivan Aguéli. It places itself in the field of didactics of history where, in this case, the use of history on a societal scale is being analyzed. With the theoretic typology of Klas-Göran Karlsson both the interests, needs and functions of the use of Aguéli can be illuminated and compared. The groups of people that use the memory of Aguéli in the Swedish culture of history are very broad. To sort these out, the essay borrows the theoretical framework stemmed from Jörn Rüsen and applied by Anders Dybelius. Using this analytical typology of the educational, popular, and commemorative spheres, the journey of Aguéli’s memory in Sweden between 1920 and 2020 can be illuminated and understood. The empirical material is very broad and includes, among others, novels, exhibitions, a rock band, a museum, biographies, and newspapers. Regarding the theoretical typologies in the essay, a deductive method is used to sort these artifacts in their relation to their abode. Ivan Aguéli was introduced in the Swedish historical culture after his death. He is remembered mainly as one of the great Swedish modernist landscape-painters, and his extravagant personality and bohemian lifestyle has made him an object of both reverence and wonderment. But why has this person been used and remembered in this way? Ivan Aguéli has often been described as a mystery. This is the one main quality that has followed his memory through the millennia, disregarding which group has been using it. This study points out that the refusal to un-mystify Aguéli has kept his memory in the style of a “bottomless well”, where different groups and individuals has been able to pick up quality’s that answer to their own particular interests and needs. This “bottomless well” contains a flurry of positive characteristics and has something that is appealing for everyone: what’s not to like? Ivan Aguéli is more popular today than ever before. His legacy as an artist is getting challenged when much of his metaphysical, political, and philosophical legacy becomes accessible through translation from French and Arabic into Swedish. Aguéli’s theories of the correlation between religious truths and the political organization of society answers to an increased need for both political and spiritual renewal. This fact makes this essay, and the use of Ivan Aguéli’s memory, an example of how history is being produced and used as a tool to aid man in her aspirations.

The Elusive Mother in William Faulkner's Major Yoknapatawpha Families

Bunnell, Phyllis Ann 05 1900 (has links)
Families in much of William Faulkner's Yoknapatawpha fiction are built upon traditional patriarchal structure with the father as head and provider and the mother or mother figure in charge of keeping the home and raising the children. Even though the roles appear to be clearly defined and observed, the families decline and disintegrate.

Zkušenosti trenérů s kondiční přípravou krasobruslařů mimo led / Experiences of trainers with conditioning preparation of figure skaters off ice

Štefl, Karel January 2020 (has links)
Title: Experiences of trainers with conditioning preparation of figure skaters off ice Objectives: The thesis will focus mainly on specialized and general training of children of a given age category (JUNIORS 15-19 YEARS) and on motor tests suitable for testing the skills most needed for figure skating, but outside the ice. Although this issue is described, although there are not so many literatures in the Czech Republic. The trainers will be interviewed, which will then be processed into a comprehensive and clear form. Methods: The questioned group consisted of 8 coaches I. and II. coaching class of figure skating. Using a guided interview, we asked 10 questions in total. Questions were focused on fitness training of figure skaters off ice. Results: Evaluation of the results enabled us to find out some interesting facts. These include the use of a spinning bike, like form of imitation of HF after of with injuries. Another valuable piece of information was the use of a rotary auxiliary device to improve coordination and reduce knee load. we also learned that running training should be eliminated for the development of endurance due to the heavy load on the knees. Training in fresh air in all weather was also a positive finding for our needs. Overcoming the aversion to training in bad weather can...

Narativy křížových výprav v českých středoškolských učebnicích dějepisu 20. století / Narratives of the crusades in czech high school history textbooks published during the 20th century

Kroupová, Pavlína January 2014 (has links)
This thesis deals with different narratives of the crusades found in czech high school history textbooks published during the 20th century. The paper shows various narrative strategies, use of languages and figures of speech that allow for many different points of view and a wide range of explanations of the same historical material. The paper is grounded in the historical narrativism paradigm and organized as follows: the first chapter introduces the theoretical background of narrativism, the second chapter deals with the theoretical approach to history textbooks and with the research that has gone into them. The third chapter offers analyses of all of the scrutinized history textbooks. The fourth and final chapter presents a synthesis spanning all the textbooks, looking for various recurring themes and phenomena.

The effects of different figure skating boots on the kinetic and kinematic properties of the landing impact and changes as the boot ages.

Spiegl, Ondrej January 2017 (has links)
Aim: The intention of this study was to examine whether different brands and models of skating boots differently affect the kinetic and kinematic properties of a landing impact from a jump. The differences were tested between new figure skating boots Graf Edmonton, new Edea Concerto and old used Graf Edmonton. Method: Subjects simulated a figure skating jump landing by landing from a counter movement jump off boxes of two different heights onto artificial ice in the Biomechanics and Motor Control (BMC) laboratory. During these jumps the subjects wore figure skating boots of different age and types. Landing impacts were examined by Qualisys motion capture system, Kistler force plate and Pedar-X in-shoe force and pressure measuring system. Each subject acted as his own control for comparison of kinetic and kinematic variables between the skates. Statistical comparison was carried out in SPSS. Results: The research results indicate that the kinetic and kinematic properties of a landing impact significantly (P≤0.05) differed depending on the tested skates. Significant differences were found between new Graf Edmonton and old used Graf Edmonton, between new Graf Edmonton and new Edea Concerto as well as between old used Graf Edmonton and new Edea Concerto. Conclusions: The first research hypothesis was accepted, indicating that reduced vertical ground reaction force (VGRF) acted in new Edea Concerto compared to new and old, used Graf Edmonton boots. The second research hypothesis was rejected since the VGRF acting during the landing impact in old, used Graf Edmonton was greater compared to new Edea Concerto and there was no significant difference compared to new Graf Edmonton boots. The differences between the figure skating boots found in this research are suggested to be caused by different construction designs and materials used in the skates. /
Kursen Projektarbete.

The importance of the study of anatomy to the figure artist

Young, Dorothy 01 January 1937 (has links)
Anatomy is of little use to the student if he has not grasped how to draw form, but it helps him to invent form. Without an understanding of how to invent, we can only make flat plans of the anatomy inside the outline; but once the drawing of bones and structure has been understood, all the anatomy that the student knows may be to his advantage. An artist must know as much science as he can use. If he knows more, there is a chance that sciences will use him. It is the structure of the body he must grasp and the way anatomy works. Knowing the parts by name is merely a convenience. If we can master Figure Drawing, even to a limited extent, we shall be well prepared to draw anything, and of all things in nature we are most critical of the human body round which there are gathered the deepest associations of idealism and instinct. However, the ideal in Art and in Nature is best understood as a standard from which to deviate, rather than as a scheme to impose on form. Rules are made to be broke, but they cannot be broken until they are understood. The creative force is given to few, but each one of us, layman or artist, cherishes a spark that may - who knows - start in another artist a conflagration. Then whether the work produced the trivial or profound, the student of "Life" may give thanks that he pursues an ageless quest of inexhaustible allure,

Den messianska vägen : En kvalitativ studie om religion, populärkultur och messiasgestalten i filmen Dune (2021)

Thornfält, Alexander January 2022 (has links)
This is a study of religion and popular culture with a focus on the film industry. The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to create an increased understandning of how religion can be expressed in film and contribute to an understanding of the way religious themes can be expressed in popular culture. Furthermore, the purpose of this bachelor thesis is to examine which messianic features are found in Dune's main character Paul Atreides. Additionally, how Bene Gesserit as well as fremen both contribute to the messianic concept in the film Dune (2021). Two theoretical concepts have been used in this study: Axelson's theory of the messiah-figure and religious syncretism. The method is a qualitative content analysis and to achieve the purpose of the inquiry this method will be used by examining the film Dune (2021). The messianic features of Paul Atreides will be examined with the use of Axelson's theory of the messiah-figure. The analysis shows several messianic features that emerge, Dune's main character Paul Atreides had doubts, unsure of this identity and visions as messianic features. Furthermore, Bene Gesserit has contributed to the messianic concept as the intermediator by creating the messiah. Additionally, the fremen have the function of a chosen as well as an opressed people and has contributed to the messianic concept in this way. The chosen and opressed people as an idea have been borrowed from judaism. Additionally, the idea of mahdi have been borrowed from shia islam which is a concept about a messiah who will return to earth and create justice. These two concepts from judaism and shia islam shows different features from religion that has been expressed in the film Dune (2021).
