The Effect of Touch on Interpersonal Attraction of Selected Patients in an Initial Interview Held in a Neuropsychiatric SettingSpinn, Richard 08 1900 (has links)
This study was designed to determine the effect of touch on the interpersonal attraction between therapist and patient. Four instruments were used to measure the effect, those measurements included "Client's Personal Reaction Questionnaire," "Attitudes Toward Psychotherapy and Psychotherapists Scale," actual physical distance and actual timed verbal measure. The general nature of the research hypotheses stated that the touch technique would increase the interpersonal attraction of the patients toward the therapist as indicated by the four measures. The results of the study led to the conclusion that touch during a single interview session effects statistically significant change in interpersonal attraction when measured by actual physical distance. However change in interpersonal attraction was not found when measured by the "Client's Personal Reaction Questionnaire," "Attitudes Toward Psychotherapy and Psychotherapists Scale" and an actual timed verbal measure. Implications of the study, based on observations of the experimenter, were that touch is successful in helping hospitalized neuropsychiatric patients increase their interpersonal attraction and that this attraction cannot always be measured by global questionnaires and specific amounts of verbalization. A similar study should be replicated with subjects other than neuropsychiatric patients, such as hospitalized medical patients, college students and children.

Derrida, nedotknutelné, tělesnost / Derrida, the untouchable, fleshUzir, Srijan January 2021 (has links)
This thesis is a reading of Jacques Derrida's critique of an ontology of touch, otherwise known as 'haptocentrism'. It takes as its focus Derrida's reading of Husserl's Ideen II in his book Le Toucher-Jean-Luc Nancy. This is a text that has received much less attention from commentators who focus on Derrida's relationship to phenomenology. Through this reading, we hope to fill an important gap in the critical literature on this subject. Through our reading, we hope to destabilise the concept of the body proper.

Sensory Knit(ting) : Shape knitted objects with touch stimulating and interactive qualities.Fodor Johansson, Ellinor January 2021 (has links)
This design project places itself in the field of knit, smart textiles and inclusive design. Knitting is a technique that can create interactive objects, for children with autism that may need support to interact with their surroundings. Therefore, this work sets out to support these individuals, using objects that offer different tactile sensations, to provide focus and calmness. To achieve this, the aim is to design inclusive knitted objects that encourage individuals with autism to interact with knitted forms through stimulating textures, vibration, and colours. Through technical research on Shima Seiki, Dubied and Silver Reed, 3D objects with various bindings are developed to create stimulating textures. Sensors and other electronics are also investigated and integrated, to make the textiles smart. Further investigations are made using surveys with an autism community, to accommodate their needs during the design process. The result of this project is three textile objects that provide two kinds of stimulation. Two pieces which react to touch with vibration, and one object with different tactile textures. As well as knowledge about how to knit forms with textures, and how to insert electronics into knitted structures. It is also how people with autism can be helped by using the objects as tools, to facilitate sensory processing or non-verbal communication, in their everyday life.

Patienters upplevelse av beröring inom sjukvården: En litteraturöversikt / The experience of touch on patients in the health care setting: A literature ReviewMunksgaard, Desideria, Jonsson, Sarah January 2021 (has links)
Bakgrund: Beröring frisätter hormonet oxytocin i kroppen. / Background: When the body is receiving touch the hormonesystem releases the hormone oxytocin. It has also been shown that touch helps to develop the brain in infants. In the holistic way of thinking, it is meant that nurses who care for a patient with the help of touch work based on the entire patient and do not focus primarily on the disease and symptoms the patient has.Aim: The purpose of the literature study was to describe the experience of touch among patients in healthcare.Method: The method was performed as a literature review. A data collection was carried out in the databases Cinahl, PubMed and a secondary search in Scopus was made. The literature review includes 14 scientific articles published between 1999 and 2021. Of these articles, seven were qualitative and six quantitative studies and one article were mixed- method. Results: The results of the literature study show that most patients experience touch as a positive event. Patients feel that touch has had a good effect on reducing anxiety and pain and that the touch has contributed to the feeling of being seen as a person and not just as a person with an illness. Patients feel that the touch has also contributed to a feeling of belonging between patient and nurse. Conclusion: Touch has many positive effects on patients who are in healthcare. Patients experience that touch given in a calm and thoughtful way relieves anxiety and pain and gives the patient a feeling of comfort. Touch also raises the patient's self-esteem and sense of control over their own situation
