Computation with continuous mode CMOS circuits in image processing and probabilistic reasoningMroszczyk, Przemyslaw January 2014 (has links)
The objective of the research presented in this thesis is to investigate alternative ways of information processing employing asynchronous, data driven, and analogue computation in massively parallel cellular processor arrays, with applications in machine vision and artificial intelligence. The use of cellular processor architectures, with only local neighbourhood connectivity, is considered in VLSI realisations of the trigger-wave propagation in binary image processing, and in Bayesian inference. Design issues, critical in terms of the computational precision and system performance, are extensively analysed, accounting for the non-ideal operation of MOS devices caused by the second order effects, noise and parameter mismatch. In particular, CMOS hardware solutions for two specific tasks: binary image skeletonization and sum-product algorithm for belief propagation in factor graphs, are considered, targeting efficient design in terms of the processing speed, power, area, and computational precision. The major contributions of this research are in the area of continuous-time and discrete-time CMOS circuit design, with applications in moderate precision analogue and asynchronous computation, accounting for parameter variability. Various analogue and digital circuit realisations, operating in the continuous-time and discrete-time domains, are analysed in theory and verified using combined Matlab-Hspice simulations, providing a versatile framework suitable for custom specific analyses, verification and optimisation of the designed systems. Novel solutions, exhibiting reduced impact of parameter variability on the circuit operation, are presented and applied in the designs of the arithmetic circuits for matrix-vector operations and in the data driven asynchronous processor arrays for binary image processing. Several mismatch optimisation techniques are demonstrated, based on the use of switched-current approach in the design of current-mode Gilbert multiplier circuit, novel biasing scheme in the design of tunable delay gates, and averaging technique applied to the analogue continuous-time circuits realisations of Bayesian networks. The most promising circuit solutions were implemented on the PPATC test chip, fabricated in a standard 90 nm CMOS process, and verified in experiments.

On the way to the determination of the Neutrino Mass Hierarchy with JUNO / Vers la détermination de la hiérarchie de masse des neutrinos avec l'expérience JUNOHuang, Qinhua 06 November 2019 (has links)
The JUNO experiment is a multi-purpose liquid scintillator neutrino experiment with the main objective of determining the neutrino mass hierarchy (nuMH) with a significance better than 3sigma. To achieve this goal, it is crucial that JUNO has an unprecedented energy resolution of 3% at 1 MeV. Therefore, the JUNO Central Detector (CD) will be built with 20000 ton high transparency liquid scintillator and high photomultiplier tube (PMT) photocathode coverage of 78%, which is provided by 18000 20"-PMTs (LPMTs) and 25000 3"-PMTs (SPMTs). At the same time, the background induced by atmospheric muons should be vetoed by using reconstructed muon tracks. The Top Tracker (TT) is a muon tracker installed on top of the CD for precise muon tracking. This thesis details firstly the optimisation of the LPMT and the SPMT systems, which are directly related to the antineutrino calorimetry. New designs of light concentrator tailored for the JUNO LPMT are studied in order to verify their performance on increasing the JUNO photoelectron yield. By comparing different configurations, the relation between the SPMT system performance and the non-uniform distribution of the SPMT emplacements is studied, and the scheme used for cabling between SPMTs and their Under Water Boxes (UWBs) is studied to ensure a minimal performance degradation in case of UWB failure.Afterwards, this thesis reports on the design and optimisation of the TT trigger algorithms. Due to the background induced by natural radioactivity in the JUNO cavern, the TT cannot work correctly without a trigger system. The results show that a 2-level trigger with the optimised trigger algorithm is effective for the background suppression and thus a muon detection efficiency of 93% can be achieved.A discussion about the TT contribution to the suppression and the measurement of the atmospheric muon-induced background, is also included.

Molecular Interpretation of a Trigger for Controlling an Amine Isocyanate Polyurethane ReactionCarrasquillo, Katherine V. 23 November 2015 (has links)
The temperature profile needed to complete the reaction between the sodium-diamine complex and the isocyanate terminated prepolymer has been established. The sodium diamine complex has the advantage of blocking the nearly instantaneous reaction between the diamine and isocyanate from taking place until it is released at elevated temperatures. Because of its low melting temperature (~40 °C) and its low molecular weight (low viscosity), this chain extension reaction is not dependent on the participation of the prepolymer. Instead, the rate of reaction is dependent on the dissolution of the 4,4’-methylenedianiline (MDA) complex into the system. The dissolution of the MDA complex has been demonstrated to be strongly dependent on particle size. Both the plasticizer Bis(2-ethylhexyl) adipate and the quaternary ammonium compound found in soy lecithin play crucial roles for this reaction. The quaternary ammonium compound is crucial in the dissolution of the complexes. Although the plasticizer has been shown to dissolve the complex to a small extent, the principal role of the plasticizer is to disperse the complexes and to prevent their agglomeration. Other additives such as Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO) have demonstrated to be highly efficient in dissolving the complex. However its effectiveness limits the mixing window needed before reaction take place, resulting in a disadvantage.

Aplikace měřicích sond v procesu frézování na stroji MCV1210/Sinumerik 840D / Application of measuring probes in a milling process with the MCV1210/Sinumerik 840D machineJanovský, Petr January 2018 (has links)
This thesis concerns the technological processes of machining of thin-walled parts and the modification of said processes in dependence on the following interopera-tive measurement of the real dimensions of these parts. Within the theoretical part a research study of technological possibilities of measuring thin-walled parts and principles of probe programming are presented. In the main practical part of the the-sis a proposal of an experiment is described, which tests the individual technologi-cal steps and their influence on the quality of a prototype of the produced thin-walled part. Numerical (NC) codes are created using parametric programming, which are then used during the realization of the experiment itself. In the conclusi-on there are presented and discussed the results of measuring of the machined surfaces and the influence of correction paths, which should help to achieve a mo-re accurate production according to given dimensions. This experiment, however, has not met the expected results. That is why new procedures have been designed in order to create said paths, which can be used in a future realization of this expe-riment.

Abstract: Myofascial Pain Syndrome (SDM) is considered an important public health problem and can often be disabling and difficult to treat. Considering that, currently, the treatment of SDM is not very effective for pain control, we verified the need to study new techniques and to compare them with existing techniques. The present study aimed to compare intramuscular electrostimulation techniques with the dry needling technique for the treatment of this musculoskeletal disease. Ninety patients were studied, divided into three groups. The first group was treated with dry needles at trigger points (PGs), the second group with intramuscular electrostimulation of PGs and the third group was treated with electrostimulation of motor points (PMs) belonging to the affected muscle and / or the nerve responsible for innervation of that muscle. The muscle used was the upper portion of the trapezius, which is innervated by the spinal accessory nerve. Seven treatment sessions were carried out in each group and all were evaluated before and after the end of the same. There was no statistically significant difference in pain scores on the Numerical Verbal Scale (EVN) between the groups studied, although all interventions have been shown to be effective for the treatment of trapezius muscle myofascial pain. / Doutor

iipax one as a Service in Cloud Integration Platforms : A Comparison of Zapier, IFTTT and Power AutomateShamon, Olivia, Carlberg, Lucas January 2020 (has links)
This thesis covers the theme of cloud integration platforms as a service with Ida Infronts information and task management system iipax one. The premise of this thesis is to research the most optimal cloud integration platform and find what cloud-based functions that are useful for iipax one. Using a cloud integration platform with iipax one could be beneficial for the users as it allows them to automate simple repetitive tasks. But choosing an integration platform is not a simple undertaking as there are many available platforms, all with their own unique features. To find a suitable platform first we investigated potential platforms which revealed Power Automate, Zapier and IFTTT as candidates. Our comparison based on a literature study showed that Power Automate is most suitable for iipax one. Finally, we created a prototype implementation to integrate iipax one with Power Automate. The conclusion is that Power Automate is the best suited platform for iipax one. Although Zapier is a close second. For the useful functions we concluded that it is more important with templates that users can adopt rather than a multitude of triggers and actions.

This thesis describes a search for Higgs boson pair (HH) production using proton-proton collision data collected at sqrt(s) = 13 TeV with the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC. Events with one Higgs boson decaying into two bottom quarks and the other decaying into two tau leptons (HH -> bb tau+tau-) are explored to investigate both resonant and nonresonant production mechanisms. The measurement of HH production is experimentally challenging because of the tiny cross section predicted by the standard model of particle physics (SM). However, this process can reveal invaluable information on the nature of electroweak symmetry breaking by giving access to the Higgs boson trilinear self-coupling and, consequently, to the shape of the scalar potential itself. Moreover, HH production is sensitive to the presence of physics beyond the SM. Both the presence of new states decaying to HH and of anomalous Higgs boson couplings are investigated in this work.Tau leptons have a key role in this search and considerable effort has been devoted to ensure a high efficiency in their selection by the trigger system of the CMS experiment. In particular, the CMS Level-1 (L1) trigger was upgraded to face the increase in the centre-of-mass energy and instantaneous luminosity conditions expected for the LHC Run II operations. The upgrade opened up the possibility to develop an efficient and dedicated algorithm to reconstruct tau leptons decaying to hadrons (tauh) and a neutrino. The tau algorithm implements a sophisticated dynamic energy clustering technique and dedicated background rejection criteria. Its development, optimisation, implementation, and commissioning for the LHC restart are presented. The algorithm performance is initially demonstrated using a simulation and subsequently measured with the data collected with the CMS experiment. The excellent performance achieved is an essential element of the search for HH production. The investigation of the HH -> bb tau+tau- process explores the three decay modes of the tau+tau- system with at least one tauh object in the final state. A dedicated event selection and categorisation is developed and optimised to enhance the sensitivity, and multivariate techniques are applied for the first time to these final states to separate the signal from the background. Results are derived using an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb-1. They are found to be consistent, within uncertainties, with the SM background predictions. Upper limits on resonant production are set and interpreted in the context of the minimal supersymmetric standard model. Upper limits on nonresonant production constrain the parameter space for anomalous Higgs boson couplings. The observed and expected upper limit are about 30 and 25 times the SM prediction, respectively, corresponding to one of the most stringent limits set so far at the LHC.Finally, prospects for future measurements of HH production at the LHC are evaluated by extrapolating the current results to an integrated luminosity of 3000 fb-1 under different detector and analysis performance scenarios.

Sesuvy v mělkých neogenních pánvích při jihozápadním okraji karpatské předhlubně na Moravě / Landslides in shallow Neogene basins along the southwestern margin of the Carpathian Foredeep in MoraviaBrdečková, Helena January 2019 (has links)
The Carpathian foredeep is a lengthwise depressed area in the Carpathian foreland. In Moravia, it is mainly filled with Neogene soils. The thesis focuses on the South Moravian landslides which occurred in shallow relicts of Neogene deposits along a foredeep margin which lie on the rocks of the Bohemian Massif. Landslide activity within these shallow basins is a result of a number of factors. In the theoretical part, important general features of landslide areas, their geological conditions and hydrogeological regime are investigated. Next, available data on the geomechanical behaviour of soils, often connected with these landslides, are summarized and evaluated. The case studies deal with the landslide localities Budkovice-Svízla, Brno-Bystrc and Znojmo. The case study of Budkovice-Svízla is based on an extensive engineering geological survey of the locality and the measurement of groundwater levels in the years 1988 – 2017. In the thesis, the hydrogeological regime of the area is analysed and a reconstruction of the ground surface before slope movement is carried out. The probable trigger mechanisms, the development of sliding and the efficiency of the executed remedies of the landslide are evaluated by numerical studies. In conclusion, general recommendations for an engineering-geological survey and building activities in the area of interest are formulated.
