Comprehensive Exploratory Analysis of Truck Route Choice Diversity in Florida

This thesis presents a comprehensive exploratory analysis of truck route choice diversity in the state of Florida, for both long-haul and short-haul truck travel segments. We employ six metrics to measure three different dimensions of diversity in truck route choice between any given origin-destination (OD) pair. These dimensions are: (1) number of distinct routes used to travel between the OD pair, (2) the extent of overlap (or lack thereof) among the routes, and (3) the evenness (or the dominance) of the usage of different unique routes. The diversity metrics were utilized to examine truck route choice diversity from over 73,000 truck trips that were derived from over 200 million GPS records of a large truck fleet. Descriptive analysis and statistical modeling of the diversity metrics offered insights on the determinants of various dimensions of truck route choice diversity between an OD pair. The results could be used to improve choice set generation algorithms for truck route choice modeling as well as in planning truck route policies and investments.

Effect of upstream turbulence on truck aerodynamics

The aerodynamic team at SCANIA has discovered the need to investigate the effect of the upstream turbulence conditions on the aerodynamics of the trucks. This need comes from the fact that there are differences between the drag coefficients obtained using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and the on-road measurements. This difference can lead to wrong predictions of fuel consumption and emissions, which can cause incorrect evaluation of design changes. In this study the problem of modeling upstream turbulence in CFD simulations is addressed together with its effect on the aerodynamics of the trucks. To achieve this, representative values of turbulence intensity and length scale were found from the work of different researchers, who performed on-road measurements for various conditions. These values were then used in a method by Jakob Mann to generate a synthetic turbulence field. This field was then used to generate time varying velocity components, added to the mean velocity at the inlet of a CFD simulation. After the implementation of the method it was discovered that the conditions at the test section of the virtual wind tunnel were representative of the on-road measurements. The results showed drag increase and wake length decrease, similar to previous studies performed on simple geometries. It also showed that the higher mixing of the flow increases the drag by surface pressure increase of forward facing surfaces and pressure decrease at the base. These conclusions may be extended to other bluff body geometries and it shows the importance of good design around gaps. The comparison between two truck geometries showed that a truck with better aerodynamics in a smooth flow shows less drag increase with introduction of upstream turbulence.

The aim of the diploma thesis is the analysis of driver responsibility during the loading and unloading of the goods at HOPI, the characteristics of the complaints grounds for the selected partner and the presentation of one type of complaints with a proposal to solve how to prevent further damage to the goods. The first part analyzes the responsibility of the carrier, where distinguishes several types of liability including the extent of liability for loss, damage or destruction of the consignment. The practical part describes the work and responsibility of the driver at HOPI. The reasons for Savencia's complaints are characterized, and the last part of the thesis concerns with one reason of complaint (damage of goods) and then proposes a solution.

The subject of my diploma thesis is the preparation of the organization KOPY TRUCK s. r. o. to the re-certification ISO 9001. The thesis analyses the fulfilment of requirements of the quality management system in the place, identifies strengths and weaknesses in the system and makes recommendations. The main aim of my thesis is the suggestion of applicable and real solution of shortcomings which will lead to the constant improvement. The thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter defines the subject of quality and introduces the development of quality management systems to the present. The second chapter informs about the technical standardization, ISO 9000 and the requirements of ISO 9001:2009. The structure of the standard is reflected in the practical part of the thesis. The third chapter presents information about the organization KOPY TRUCK s. r. o. and analyses strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats through the SWOT analysis. The following chapter evaluates and discusses about the fulfilment of the requirements of ISO 9001 in the organization. At the end of the individual articles of standards there are presented changes, recommendations and implemented solutions. The last chapter summarizes the compliance of standards in the organization and identifies the main benefits of the thesis. After the review of the requirements of ISO 9001, there was found that the company meets the requirements. These recommendations will help to develop a quality management system and contribute to the improvement of the company.

La idea de negocio surge a partir del malestar de muchas mujeres, quienes demoran horas buscando exclusividad y calidad, por lo cual la empresa busca aliviar este malestar y generar un ahorro de tiempo al momento de comprar ropa y ofrecer diseños nacionales y exclusivos. A diferencia de las tiendas convencionales de ropa, Pacha’s Fashion Truck acercará a los clientes variedad de prendas nacionales con diseños únicos y elaborados por emprendedores peruanos, esto debido a que estará ubicado en diferentes ferias o eventos. Asimismo, las redes sociales será el principal medio para tener contacto con los clientes de manera constante y mantenerlos informado sobre la ubicación de la boutique móvil.
