Representing the complexity, diversity and particularity of the doctoral enterprise in AustraliaCumming, Jim, jim.cumming@anu.edu.au January 2007 (has links)
This thesis addresses the need to reconceptualise the doctoral experience at a time when the boundaries between education, training, research, work and career development are becoming increasingly blurred. It does so by means of a detailed analysis of what candidates do and how they operate in a variety of disciplinary, employment and other contexts.¶
In order to synthesise and interpret the outcomes of that analysis a broader concept of the doctoral enterprise is developed within which the lived experience is embedded. It is argued that effective representation of the doctoral enterprise is as important as its reconceptualisation, and that both processes are required to generate in-depth understanding of the complexity, diversity and particularity of this phenomenon.¶
Case narratives incorporating the perspectives of candidatesas well as those whom they deem to be influencing their research and learningare employed to portray distinctive elements of doctoral work and its associated outcomes. Quantitative data and analysis derived from a national survey of doctoral candidates are combined subsequently with this qualitative material in order to generate further insight regarding doctoral activities and the entities that are integral to their enactment.¶
Drawing on theories of practice, an integrative model of the doctoral enterprise is then presented. This comprises two basic components, one of which is a set of doctoral practices classified in terms of curriculum, pedagogy, research and work. The other is a set of doctoral arrangements that reflect configurations of entities inclusive of the participants, the academy and the community.¶
The purpose of the model is to increase understanding of the dynamic and evolving nature of the doctoral enterprise and the interrelationships involving practices and arrangements. This model has implications for candidates and others involved directly in the doctoral enterprise, regardless of their sector, role or status.

Sjuksköterskestudenters uppfattning om interprofessionellt lärandeCohen, Julia, Jakobsson, Tobias January 2010 (has links)

Aim: To evaluate nurse student’s apprehension of an interprofessional seminar as part of training. Method: A descriptive, qualitative study built on the analysis of 43 questionnaires and one group interview with nurse student’s who participated in the seminar. For the analysis of the collected material we used the method of analysis of contents as described by Graneheim and Lundman. Primary results: The analysis highlights five different categories which show the nurse student’s apprehension of the seminar. From the analysis of contents it was established that questions remained unanswered after the seminar and that there remained some uncertainty as for the carrying through of the seminar. It was however also established that the seminar helped the students to gain insight about the profession of physiotherapists and the importance of cooperation. All in all, the students apprehended interprofessional education as a valid part of training. Conclusion: An interprofessional seminar together with physiotherapists was a great initiative taken by the responsible for the nursing course. It is important, however, that the information and the tasks are well prepared, and that there is valid follow-up to any interprofessional seminar, in order to make it as successful as possible.
/

Import : An Analytic and Econometric Study of RegionsSeydlitz, Josefine January 2007 (has links)
This is unique study of import is of the greatest importance, since no studies of import across regions have earlier been performed. Import is a driving force of innovations and therefore most important for a stable growth. This master thesis is about interregional import, as well as the strong spatial concentration of imports in the Swedish system of network. Five hypothesises are presented in the last section of chapter two. The variables to be used in the analysis are then divided into two main groups, before empirically tested in different combinations of regression models. The main conclusion of this thesis is a significant correlation between import, and the two independent variables export and firm R&D, and its result goes in line with the theoretical framework of this thesis, regional specialisation in import and export nodes

This Minor Field Study examines whether or not Batswana female master students at the University of Botswana, due to their university education, have become more politically aware and critical towards their national political system. Botswana has been chosen as a critical case on the basis of the country’s long lasting democracy and the Botswana’s positive attitude towards their government.

The research takes off in theories such as democratic and critical citizen’s theory and feminism. Based on these theories, an analytical framework with the core assumption that female university education creates politically critical women, has been developed. The study is based on ten qualitative interviews with female master students. The interview questions concern the respondent’s political awareness, participation and their perceptions of political institutions, regime principles and governmental performance.

The findings of the study are that university education makes women more politically aware, empowered and active, although we have found no significant correlation between university education and a rise in criticism among the interviewed women. However a majority of the respondents that actually have been affected by their education declare that they have become more politically critical.

Absolventų įsitvirtinimo darbo rinkoje probleminiai aspektai (Klaipėdos verslo kolegijos pavyzdžiu) / Problematic Aspects of Consolidation of Graduates in the Labour Market (on the example of Klaipėda Business College)Daračienė, Rasa 16 August 2007 (has links)
Absolventų įsitvirtinimo darbo rinkoje probleminiai aspektai (Klaipėdos verslo kolegijos pavyzdžiu). Magistro darbas. Magistro darbu siekta ištirti Klaipėdos verslo kolegijos (KLVK) vadybos ir verslo administravimo studijų krypties 2003-2006 m. absolventų įsitvirtinimą darbo rinkoje sąlygojančius veiksnius. Tuo tikslu išnagrinėtos kolegijos absolventų įsidarbinimo teorinės prielaidos ir veiksniai, pagrįstas KLVK studijų programų atitikimas Vakarų Lietuvos regiono reikmėms, atliktas KLVK verslo vadybos, draudimo vadybos ir finansų studijų programų keturių laidų absolventų įsidarbinimo tyrimas, pateiktos išvados ir rekomendacijos jų konkurencingumui stiprinti. Pagrindiniai tyrime dalyvavusių absolventų įsidarbinimą sąlygojantys veiksniai: praktinio pasirengimo stoka, nepakankamas domėjimasis darbo rinkos tendencijomis, studijų KLVK procesui būdingi tradicinio mokymo/si požymiai. Patvirtintos hipotezės: vadybos ir verslo administravimo studijų krypties absolventai įgijo darbo rinkoje paklausią specialybę ir dauguma pagal ją dirba; dauguma karjeros tikslus kėlusių respondentų taip pat dirba pagal specialybę; pažangesni absolventai įgijo pakankamai profesinei veiklai reikalingų žinių ir gebėjimų, prasčiau besimokiusiems jų trūko. Nepasitvirtino prielaida, kad kuo geresni pažymiai, tuo labiau pakanka pasirengimo profesinei veiklai. / This Master’s Thesis analyses the determining factors of establishment of Klaipėda Business College (KLBC) graduates (2003-2006) in the study field of management and business administration in the labour market. For this purpose, the theoretical preconditions and factors of the College graduates’ placement have been analysed; the adequacy of the study programmes to the needs of Western Lithuania has been grounded; the placement research of the graduates in four years in Business Management, Insurance Management and Finance study programmes at KLBC has been carried out; conclusions and recommendations on how to enhance competitiveness have been suggested. The main factors preconditioning the placement of the respondents of the research: lack of practical preparation, insufficient interest taken in the labour market trends, features of traditional teaching/learning typical to the study process at KLBC. The adopted hypotheses: graduates of the study field of management and business administration get a marketable speciality in the labour market and majority of them work by speciality; majority of the respondents, who had a career objective, also work by speciality; advanced students gained sufficient knowledge and skills for professional activity, the lagging ones felt lack of them. The precondition – the better the marks, the more sufficient preparation for professional activity– was rejected.
