Development of strategic mark up decision by contractors in Saudi Arabia

Nourah, Bander Taher K. January 2013 (has links)
Competitive bidding is a common practice in business. The main aim of this research is to develop a practical bidding model. This includes studying existing bidding models used by organisations and verifying the developed model. Various factors have been identified and analysed in order to identify the weight and ranking order of each factor in terms of its influence on the bid mark up size. Interviews have been conducted to explore the current practical practice in setting mark up size in Saudi Arabia and to identify factors that may influence bid mark up size. In addition, a questionnaire has been used to identify each factor’s level of importance in Saudi Arabia. The findings have been used to establish a ranking order of factors in terms of their influence on bidding decisions based on contractors' size and main client. An important discovery is that the level of importance and rank of factors that influence bid mark up size differ based on contractors' characteristics and main client. The characteristic which has been investigated in this research is the size of the contractor. As a result, a bidding model to determine mark up size based on contractors' size and main clients has been developed. The proposed model has been tested and proved accurate in simulating the contractors’ decisions.

Photo-noircissement dans les fibres optiques dopées au thulium pompées à 1,07 μm / Photo-darkening of doped thulium optical fiber pumped at 1.07 μm

Lupi, Jean-François 18 November 2016 (has links)
This wavelength range is currently booming for many applications. However, the development of such fibers are limited by the photo-darkeningphenomenon. This phenomenon consists of the loss of transparency in thematerial during its use under optical pumping. This thesis is devoted to thestudy and the resolution of issues caused by photo-darkening in aluminum- andthulium-doped silica optical fibers when optically pumped at 1.07 μm. In thisthesis, a new method of fiber manufacture that is specific to our needs hasbeen developed and implemented at LPMC. A systematic study of the role ofthulium concentration in the photo-darkening mechanism was conducted. Therole of the co-doping with aluminum, cerium or lanthanum was also analyzedby systematic studies. The photo-darkening is attributed to the generation ofcolor centers by pumping. Once created, these color centers can be bleachedby the pump. A phenomenological model of the dynamics of photo-darkeningallows a separate discussion between the generation and the bleachingphenomena. In this work, it is shown that the increasing of the concentration ofthulium and/or the pump power has the effect of increasing the generationphenomenon. In opposite, increasing of the concentration of aluminum orcerium or lanthanum has the effect to intensify the bleaching mechanism. Theidentification and understanding of these mechanisms open the path to newlasers and optical fiber amplifiers in the visible range

Rekognice / Recognition

Mufová, Alžběta January 2020 (has links)
The following thesis explores the obtaining of evidence during criminal proceedings via a line-up technique which is listed in section 104b, Act No. 141/1961, Criminal Procedure Code. The chosen topic is reviewed in its complexity from several different angles including theoretical aspects and my own personal experience. The thesis concentrates on a line-up of subjects in natura, problems associated with the procedure and offers possible solutions on how to face the given problems. In the first chapter the thesis provides general definition of a line-up and its variations and remaining subchapters to the possibility of its urgency and unrepeatability as well as to the question whether an object must participate. Next it follows the historical development of line-ups, offers views both current and historical on the practice as a method of criminal evidence gathering and explores the fact that it has only recently become part of the Criminal Procedure Code. This is opposed to being considered, as was the case for a long time, as a specific kind of interrogation, a view that can still be found among some theorists up to this day. In the next two chapters, a line-up is compared to other methods of criminal evidence that are part of the Criminal Procedure Code and the thesis also takes a closer look at...

The Integration of Two Innovation Driven Methods Based on the Start-up Processes of Successful Software Companies : Lean Start-up and Design Thinking in Software

Sidemo, Elsa, Lundberg, Ebba January 2021 (has links)
Background: There is a great interest in researching prescriptive methods as entrepreneurs demand guidance for start-up processes. A learn-by-doing methodology called lean start-up methodology has influenced tech entrepreneurs. Further, design thinking is another methodology for developing innovation that has been suggested to benefit in a software context. The uncertain nature requiring rapid innovation for software start-ups has sparked the interest in exploring the combination of the methodologies in an entrepreneurial context to utilize the benefits of both. However, the methodologies have been criticized due to a lack of rigor. It is therefore an opportunity to explore applicability of lean start-up in practice and design thinking in a software context to develop a unique methodology integrating lean start-up and design thinking.Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore the occurrence of the two innovation driven methods lean start-up and design thinking in successful software start-ups, to develop a theory of an integrated methodology that utilizes the benefits of both. The intent is to provide explicit guidance for both scholars and entrepreneurs. Methodology: An exploratory qualitative method was used with an inductive approach, conducting semi-structured interviews with six founders of successful software companies. Conclusion:  The findings advance the understanding of the lean start-up methodology in practice, by extending the aspect of idea development and clarifying the use of iterating aspects of the business model. The findings update the sequence of design thinking when applied in a software context and extend the iterating aspect, to adapt to the need for rapid development. The theory of suggested integration confirms that the first stages of design thinking initiate the idea process, emphasizing early consideration of desirability, viability, and feasibility, while lean start-up is integrated into the product development process, emphasizing rapid iterating development for validation.
