Sharing is caring : Designing and evaluating an application for collaborative consumptionChristiansen, Amelie January 2020 (has links)
This study was conducted to explore the design of an application in the collaborative consumption area. To explore this, different factors that motivate users to participate in collaborative consumption were investigated. From these factors, User Experience (UX)-attributes were generated as a starting point for the researcher to create concepts and design a digital prototype. The usability of the prototype and whether the UX-attributes had been achieved were later evaluated. On the basis of the usability and interview results, the intent to use the application was explored. Five participants took part in the usability test. This test included measuring task success, user expectation measure and a SUS-questionnaire, after which an interview was conducted to explore the achievement of these attributes. The interviews were analyzed using the thematic analysis method, and the results showed that the UX-attributes that were chosen were sufficient in generating a concept for collaborative consumption that could communicate these important factors. The results from the usability tests show that the design has well above acceptable usability, and although the interview results show that the UX-attributes were fulfilled in varying degrees, they were all fulfilled. Furthermore, by examining the usability and interview results an intent to use the application was discovered.

Optimization Method of Usability Test Process Based on User Requirements --- Taking E-commerce Application Software as an ExampleLiu, Yu January 2020 (has links)
Context. During each iteration of the application, we need to test the usability of the application. Therefore, how to improve efficiency and test according to the user's real experience is a problem faced by the company. According to our preliminary research on the literature. In the past, the usability of software systems was evaluated subjectively and the process was not well defined [21]. Every usability evaluation method has its advantages and disadvantages. Some are difficult to apply, and others are dependent on the measurer's opinions or instruments [21]. Moreover, currently, there are few studies on usability testing for e-commerce applications. And there is a lack of a usability test optimization scheme suitable for e-commerce applications. Therefore, we choose this direction for research. Objectives. This paper aims to provide an optimization method for usability testing process based on user requirements for e-commerce applications existing in the market, so that enterprises can more effectively implement the usability testing process in the process of iterative update of applications. Methods. In order to find the answers to the research questions, we used Literature review and Survey to collect the data. In the Survey section, we used the Questionnaire and Interview methods. After the data collection is completed, we perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of the data and organize the research conclusions. Results. Through a literature review, we conducted a systematic review of the usability challenges in e-commerce applications and how to overcome them. And we found the research direction in this process. We use the questionnaire to obtain the usability requirements of respondents (also users of e-commerce applications) for e-commerce applications, and use our optimization method (EEC) to translate user's requirements into usability test script content. And according to the feedback of the respondents to determine the content priority. We used interviews to understand the priorities that companies follow when actually performing usability testing. And compare it with the priority of our script to verify the effectiveness of our method. Conclusions. We summarize relevant conclusions by finding answers to research questions. Finally, an optimization method for usability testing is summarized, which will help future testers better implement usability testing to a certain extent.

Implementing and evaluating an unconventional design of an electronic health record systemKällgren, Robert January 2020 (has links)
As the digitisation of healthcare progresses, there are still problems in terms of usability. With the goal of exploring solutions to these, an email inspired design for an electronic health record system was implemented using modern web technologies. The implementation was then evaluated in a series of usability tests conducted with five orthopaedic surgeons. Participants were asked to perform small tasks on a mocked data set, and the sessions were concluded with debriefing interviews. The focus was on the areas that are new in this design. The results suggest that the general design works, and no critical flaws were identified at this stage. Most of the issues that were found are likely to be solved with more training and experience, but there is still room for improvement. Participants had positive reactions overall, and plenty of feedback was collected regarding areas of improvement and feature suggestions. Due to the limitations of the test, the findings mostly relate to the intuitiveness of the design. To draw stronger conclusions regarding the viability of the design in a real environment, further testing with more data, realistic test tasks and more prerequisite training is necessary.

Heuristic Evaluation of Network Management Systems - Using Axis Communications’ Network Management System Music in Creation of Usability HeuristicsJohansson Vikström, Emma January 2018 (has links)
Network management is a challenge for today’s enterprises. Networkmanagement systems are usually complex and error prone, making themtedious and difficult to work with for network managers. Related work show thatthese systems are often not very usable, the reason probably being that morefocus is put on functionality rather than usability since security is a veryimportant aspect of network management. However, a system not builtaccording to usability and user experience guidelines will generate errors eventhough the functionality is correctly built. Related work also show that there isa lack of efficient usability testing methods specifically for network management. In this study, a set of heuristics (usability guidelines), tailor-made for networkmanagement, is being created. These heuristics can then be used in usabilitytesting of network management systems. The study is conducted incollaboration with Axis Communications AB. Their network management system“Music” is used as a help in finding and validating appropriate heuristics, andthe heuristics are also used for testing the usability of Music. A systematicliterature review and user interviews at Axis are used to learn important aspectsof network management systems. The heuristic set is then created by setting upa starting set of classical heuristics and modifying it according to previouslyfound network management aspects. These heuristics are then validated byusing them in usability tests of Music. The validation proves the new set ofheuristics to be more effective in finding issues for a network managementsystem than a classical set of usability heuristics (namely Nielsen’s heuristics).Besides the set of heuristics, the study also results in recommendations ofimprovements on the usability of Music, mock-ups proposing a new design forMusic’s GUI and general recommendations for enterprises with networkmanagement systems.

Augmented Reality Navigation Interfaces Designed for People with Mild Dementia / Navigeringsapplikation med AR-gränssnitt för Personer med Mild DemensJohansson Evegård, Kristin, Gabriella, Westman January 2018 (has links)
Navigation can prove a real challenge for a person suffering from dementia, even in well known environments. In order to relieve some of this burden, companies around the world are developing assistive technologies. However, getting accustomed to such technologies could still be challenging since people with dementia often perceive new technologies as difficult to use. Among the new technologies though, Augmented Reality (AR) technology has been reported as both intuitive and easily adopted. Therefore, this study aims to investigate how this particular technology could be implemented, i.e. how the AR interface could be designed, in a mobile navigation application so people with mild dementia can use the application without assistance. This qualitative study is based on a pilot study followed by two usability tests, where people diagnosed with mild dementia tested a mobile navigation application and a navigation mockup, both implementing augmented reality technology but with two different interface designs: i) one included an animated figure and ii) one used arrows with a filter that could be turned on or off. Five persons participated in each usability test. The collected interview and observational data was analyzed using a phenomenological hermeneutical method. Overall the participants found the suggested AR technology to be usable while navigating. The results also showed that the respondents were rather neutral to which of the two AR interfaces were used. The majority expressed that it was easier to navigate with the navigation mockup when the filter was off. Finally, the study presents five design implication suggestions to be considered while developing this type of assistive technologies for people with mild dementia. The AR interface should: use an unfiltered camera view, be intuitive, be adapted to outdoor conditions, not prevent the user from focusing on the surrounding environment, be precise and trustworthy. Fem personer deltog i varje användbarhetstest.

How In-House Usability Testing Increases Product DevelopmentSeger, Jonatan January 2019 (has links)
Can the Product Development Process at Tcom be improved by moving usability testing in-house? The interest in this question lies in the agile transformation Tcom initiated in early 2018. Once agile, the company’s interests are efficiency and increasing quality. One way of increasing the quality of their digital products is to improve the process behind it, where involving users in usability testing should be central in an iterative development process. A qualitatively driven mixed methods research approach facilitated the acquisition of the empirical data necessary to successfully answer the research question. The culture of Tcom’s usability testing was collected via a survey. The survey was complemented with the current testing process through four interviews and two observations of usability tests, one internal and one external. Parameters between the two tests were compared and weighted against each other. The main findings reveal that the internal process shows promising characteristics. It is, up to, 1/10 as expensive per participant, has a quicker call-to-test-time, facilitates transparency, and allows refinement of the process. With the main findings in hand, the conclusion points to the fact that usability testing should be composed and conducted by Tcom itself. The greatest challenge to such a change is how a usability perspective can be integrated into the Scrum methodology.
