Building an Intelligent Filtering System Using Idea Indexing

Yang, Li 08 1900 (has links)
The widely used vector model maintains its popularity because of its simplicity, fast speed, and the appeal of using spatial proximity for semantic proximity. However, this model faces a disadvantage that is associated with the vagueness from keywords overlapping. Efforts have been made to improve the vector model. The research on improving document representation has been focused on four areas, namely, statistical co-occurrence of related items, forming term phrases, grouping of related words, and representing the content of documents. In this thesis, we propose the idea-indexing model to improve document representation for the filtering task in IR. The idea-indexing model matches document terms with the ideas they express and indexes the document with these ideas. This indexing scheme represents the document with its semantics instead of sets of independent terms. We show in this thesis that indexing with ideas leads to better performance.

Persistência de ordem em modelos ferromagnéticos na presença de campos auto-similares quase aleatórios\" / Persistence of order on ferromagnetic models in the presence of quasi random auto-similar fields

Carvalho, Silas Luiz de 27 April 2007 (has links)
In this work we study the existence of long range order for ferromagnetic models in the presence of an external field whose configuration has a pattern typically random. We prove, via the Peierls\' argument modified by Griffiths in his study of an antiferromagnet, that the two dimensional ferromagnetic Ising model for a staggered field exhibits long-range order at finite temperature and small field intensity. We propose to give a further step considering sparse self similar fields, whose sum is zero in all scales. We study as well the hierarchical model in two dimensions, where we prove existence of long-range order at finite temperature in the absence of external field and for a field configuration with sparse irregular regions. We prove that the results for the two-dimensional hierarchical contours model are equivalent to the results of the hierarchical model in two dimensions. Lastly, we prove via infrared bound method, existence of long range order in the N-vector model with a staggered and weak external field for d >= 3, under the hypothesis that the variance of the state connected with the field interaction has cardinality lower than volume. We show, under similar hypotheses, that the N-vector hierarchical model with a sparse field of low intensity has long range ordem at low temperatures.

This paper aims to verify the existence of cycles in the Brazilian construction industry and to analyze its effects on other activities of the Brazilian economy, as well as to verify its relevance regarding the GDP of this country. The period analyzed corresponds to the years between 1996 and 2016. The motivation to research this segment lies in the relevance of the civil construction industry in the Brazilian economy, both for its magnitude in the participation of the national GDP and for its degree of linkage in the productive chain and, still, by positioning in the economic activity as a whole. The methodology used to reach the proposed objectives was the use of the HP filter and the VAR model from the data published by IBGE. The HP filter allowed to verify the level of correlation of the construction cycles with other selected segments. On the other hand, the VAR model showed the most significant specific impacts of a 1% shock on the level of activity in the civil construction and mining industry. Overall, the results show that there is a stronger correlation with mineral extractive industry, manufacturing industry and total GDP in Brazil.

Costantin, Paulo Dutra 09 November 2007 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-03-15T19:31:14Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Paulo Dutra Costantin.pdf: 1161497 bytes, checksum: 80c40c8fcef9308bff7d9389b7a7a3f0 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2007-11-09 / Instituto Presbiteriano Mackenzie / The current work aims to provide an inquiry into the causes of productivity increase observed in the Brazilian agricultural sector from the 1970s till the early years of the 2000s. Its working hypothesis is that gains in productivity are explained by factors like increased rural credit, research (technology), tractors, fertilizers and pesticides. More specifically, it analyses and estimates the impact of each of the foregoing variables on the trajectory of agriculture productivity increase in the period under study. In order to accomplish these tasks, we built up a database that gathered the relevant information for subsequent parametric (as well as non-parametric) estimation of the above specified explanatory variables. The first stage of the research consists of developing a conceptual analysis of the term productivity that fits well with neoclassical microeconomic theory and allows for a systematic explanation based on items like production function, cost function and technical progress. The second stage scrutinizes the properties of parametric and non-parametric research methods underlying the overall study. The third part specifies the selected techniques in tune with the available information. They refer to Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), Cobb-Douglas Production Function, Translog Production Function and Model of Error Correction Vector. The DEA model suggests that there has been an improvement of technical efficiency as well as room for technological progress throughout the last three decades. Based on the Cobb Douglas model, we found out that the three main factors explaining productivity gains in the sector are harvest area, credit and investment. The Translog production function suggests neutrality of technical progress relative of factor employment over time and a positive effect on production. Additionally, it suggests that reduction of cultivated area, rural credit, pesticide and increase of employment of limestone (calcario)contributes to technical progress. Finally, the model of vector error correction identified that rural credit and R&D yield positive effects on agricultural productivity.

Synchronous Reluctance Machine (SynRM) Design

Rajabi Moghaddam, Reza January 2007 (has links)
The Synchronous Reluctance Motor (SynRM) has been studied. A suitable machine vector modelhas been derived. The influence of the major parameters on the motor performance has beentheoretically determined.Due to the complex rotor geometry in the SynRM, a suitable and simple combined theoretical(analytical) and finite element method has been developed to overcome the high number ofinvolved parameters by identifying some classified, meaningful, macroscopic parameters.Reducing the number of parameters effectively was one of the main goals. For this purpose, attempt has been made to find and classify different parameters and variables, based on availableliteratures and studies. Thus a literature study has been conducted to find all useful ideas andconcepts regarding the SynRM. The findings have been used to develop a simple, general, finiteelement aided and fast rotor design procedure. By this method rotor design can be suitablyachieved by related and simplified finite element sensitivity analysis. The procedure have been tested and confirmed. Then it is used to optimize a special rotor for aparticular induction machine (IM) stator. This optimization is mainly focused on the torquemaximization for a certain current. Torque ripple is also minimized to a practically acceptablevalue. The procedure can also be used to optimize the rotor geometry by considering the othermachine performance parameters as constrains. Finally full geometrical parameter sensitivity analysis is also done to investigate the influence ofthe main involved design parameters on the machine performance. Some main characteristics like magnetization inductances, power factor, efficiency, overloadcapacity, iron losses, torque and torque ripple are calculated for the final designs and in differentmachine load conditions.Effects of ribs, air gap length and number of barriers have been investigated by means of suitableFEM based method sensitivity analysis.
