Spatial analysis of development projects in Venda : a case study of the Tshivhase tea estate

Adjei, Alexander 01 1900 (has links)
The research was undertaken to investigate the impact of the Tshivhase Tea Estate on the space economy of Venda, the people and area ofMapate, and Duthuni, among whom the Tea Estate is established. The approach is based on principles. Principles of development theory are combined with appropriate spatial models. The development reality of Venda, together with many other development projects are analysed. Does the tea estate address the rural poverty problem? Findings are presented from a case study of Tshivhase and this proved the lack of growth and development impulses to alleviate the poverty of the rural people among whom it is located. Development is considered in terms of its possible simultaneous diffusion of economic activity and modernisation in all four dimensions of the spatial system : political, socio-cultural, economic and physical. / Department of Geography / M.A. (Geography)

The impact of religious and cultural discourses on the leadership development of women in the ministry : a vhusadzi (womanhood) perspective

Mudimeli, Lufuluvhi Maria 10 1900 (has links)
Culture and religion have both healthy and unhealthy effect on the leadership development of women in Africa. In this regard, the impact of especially African Pentecostal Christian discourses, as well as Vhavenda cultural discourses, on the lives of women leaders are brought to the surface through literary reviews, questionnaires and interviews. Accordingly, the data obtained by means of these methods are analysed using existing theological and cultural hermeneutics methods. Furthermore, they are deconstructed in terms of a vhusadzi (womanhood) perspective of empowerment regarding women in the ministry, which is applicable in an African-South African context. The present role of women in Pentecostal churches in the Venda context is studied historically and critically with reference to a future of empowerment. It is found that the leadership role of women in the ministry in Pentecostal churches in Venda is faced by certain challenges, which include rereading the Bible from the perspective of women in partnership with men, validating women’s ordination in dialogue with patriarchal interpretations of presumed biblical prohibitions on women’s ordination, rescoping cultural influences on church leadership roles, which are supported by Venda proverbs and rituals and reframing perceptions of women in the ministry amongst church leaders and the laity. The unique contribution of this thesis is, firstly, its focus on Pentecostal women in Venda. Secondly, a vhusadzi perspective is formulated that has never been done before in the literature. This perspective encompasses the experiences and expectations of Vhavenda women living in the Limpopo Province in South Africa. Thirdly, a link is drawn between culture, religion and ministerial leadership with a gender focus that produces new knowledge of the relationship between religion and culture as it manifests itself in a Venda context. The vhusadzi approach is informed by the bosadi approach of the Old Testament scholar, Madipoane Masenya, and feeds on her insights into women’s access to the interpretation of biblical texts. The vhusadzi approach takes these insights further by applying them to Vhavenda women’s access to leadership roles in the church. It opens up the future for further research, inviting African women scholars to contextualise issues related to women’s ordination. / Systematic Theology and Theological Ethics / D. Th. The relationship between affective factors and the academic achievement of students at the University of Venda

Sikhwari, Tshimangadzo Daniel 30 June 2004 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between affective factors and the academic achievement of students at the University of Venda. Self-concept, motivation and attitude are affective factors selected for the study. The general aim of the study is to determine the role of self-concept, motivation and attitude in students' academic achievement and ultimately come up with some recommendations for enhancing these factors. The theoretical investigation indicates that there is a relationship between students' self-concepts, motivation, attitude, and academic achievement. Similarly, the empirical investigation has revealed that there is a significant correlation between self-concept, motivation, and academic achievement of students. It was, for example, found that female students are significantly more motivated than their male counterparts. It is therefore essential that educationists should understand the differences in motivational orientations of their students in order to facilitate effective learning. / Educational Studies / M.Ed.(Specialization in Education Psychology))

Given this, this master's thesis is the result of research focused on the environment of direct sales or mail order. More specifically on the way of functional relationship between sales representatives and companies from the perspective of the Brazilian System of Social Security. Based on the absence of employment contract, the legal relation between direct sales companies and representatives defines its conditions as independent vendors. This was the starting point of the problematic, since these individual vendors are not included in the constitutional social protection of Social Security.

Ethical dilemmas of circumcision school with reference to the Venda

Mahada, Livhuwani Paul 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MPhil)--Stellenbosch University, 2004. / Full text to be digitised and attached to bibliographic record. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Morbidity and mortality are national problems that affect a vast number of children and young adults each year in Circumcision Schools. The number of children who either get sick or die of traditional circumcision school is probably high. "In one study of penile mutilation practice (in 1990) of the Xhosa tribe of Southern Africa, 9 % of mutilated boys died: 52 % lost all or most of their penile shaft skin: 14 % developed severe infectious lesions: 10% lost their glans penis; and 5 % lost their entire penis. This represents only those boys who made it to the hospital," (Denniston and Milos, 1997: v). The problem is still the same and this could mean that the true complication statistics is likely to be much higher if the entire South Africa is taken into consideration. Although traditional circumcision was well intended, the recent spate of death puts it under threat. Besides, there are many other controversial acts that are taking place within the school itself. There are many illegal schools instituted by inexperienced traditional surgeons. The plight is further worsened by the commercialisation of the traditional institution. It is painful to note that the camps which were normally held in winter for children to heal faster are now also held in summer. The outmoded system of administration in this institution and the health hazards experienced, confronts parents, children and the entire community with a dilemma - a dilemma that warrants ethical reflection. The dilemma poses a serious challenge to the cultures that practice the traditional ritual of circumcision. Many of the advisers of this thesis agree (the likes of Prof. C.S. van der Waal, Prof G. Tangwa, Chief T.l Ramovha, Traditional healer Mashudu Dima and Dr D. Sidler) that we don't have to do away with the school as such, but that there is a need to either change and improve certain things in this school. Social change and medical awareness seem very important in this regard. The hurdle created by this dilemma, though daunting, can be overcome. We need education, cooperation, dialogue, rationality and true reflection on our culture to work this problem out. Until our children are safe from the threat of morbidity and mortality, no one is safe. I therefore think that many human errors could paint an unfavourable picture on the traditional Circumcision School, whereby creating ethical dilemmas. The ethical dilemma could be a starting point for critical reflection on culture and tradition with the hope for change and future progress. It is such a challenge that Circumcision Schools should face and which they urgently need. "In one study of penile mutilation practice (in J 990) of the Xhosa tribe of Southern Africa, 9% of mutilated boys died: 52% lost all or most of their penile shaft skin: J4% died developed serious infectious lesions: J0% lost their glans penis; and 5% lost their entire penis. This represents only the boys who made it to hospital" (Denniston and Milos, 1997:v).

Proposta de procedimento de redução de resíduos têxteis no setor de corte em empresas de venda direta / Proposal of a procedure to reduce textile waste in the Cutting Sector in direct selling companies

Faloppa, Mônica Araújo 19 October 2017 (has links)
O Brasil ocupa a quarta posição no ranking da World Federation of Direct Selling Associations (WFDSA), atrás apenas dos Estados Unidos, Japão e China. A metodologia utilizada se mostrou viável para um estudo de encaixe eficiente com possibilidade de redução do desperdício e do custo do produto final para as empresas desse segmento / Direct selling is characterized by being a marketing system for consumer goods and services to which personal contact between sellers and buyers is carried out outside a fixed commercial establishment. Brazil occupies the fourth position in the ranking of the World Federation of Direct Selling Associations (WFDSA), behind only the United States, Japan and China. In some cases, requests from sales consultants are not compatible with routine manufacturing for large-scale production because some products are specific to a particular type of target audience and therefore do not have an acceptance in large scale. For this type of product should have special attention by using the characteristics of the tissue and oriented technology in reducing the generation of textile waste. Due to this, the objective of this research was to verify the working methods in companies of the direct sales segment, in order to propose, from the study of fit, be it, manual or computerized, in the chothing cutting sector, optimization and the maximum use of the raw material, reducing the waste of commonly generated textile waste, which collaborates every day to the degradation of the environment, in addition to wasting time and financial resources. The methodology used was the bibliographic research, which is the basic procedure for the monographic studies, and the exploratory research, since it does not require the formulation of hypotheses to be tested and, after the research, it was verified that the methodology used proved to be feasible for an efficient fit study and cost reduction for the companies in the segment

Trigueiros, Ângelo Mário Costa e 01 November 2007 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-26T20:26:09Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Angelo Mario Costa e Trigueiros.pdf: 727905 bytes, checksum: ba9b8709346a264b0b9e729de78a00be (MD5) Previous issue date: 2007-11-01 / The Consumers Defense Code (law nº 8.078, from September, 11th, 1990) brought to the national legal system not only novelty, but mainly a discipline mechanism and practical tools to solve conflicts arising from consumer connections. This modest study intends to broach some important aspects from consumers purchase agreement, specially those related to the development of the volitive element of its formation and to the error as a consequence of both the will and the consumer consentment destabilization. Convinced that the agreements resulting from consumer connections so far have been studied incompletely, this study tries to demonstrate that it s composing elements, as usually described, must be developed, since the authors, apparently, mix the parties volition with their consentment. On the other hand, at the same time, this study tries to demonstrate the consentment and volitive defects must be examined under a different point of view, and, therefore, must be redefined. More specifically, this studies efforts to demonstrate that the error, understood as a defect from the consumer connection, is not a fact by itself, but a mere consequence of the consumers volition and consentment destabilization originated by a malevolent cause to his rights, interests or conveniences. Consumers rights, even though without a great chronological tradition among us, soon has distinguished itself, not only due to its practical and moralizing magnitude in the business scenario, but mainly due to its authors qualitative relevance. The emerging of mass societies forced old conceptions regarding the purchase agreement to be revised. One of those revisions was the verification that, in certain agreements, one of the parties (the consumer) is so diluted that becomes almost invisible, imperceptible. This fact heavily renders difficult to the study of consumer agreements formation, based on doctrinaire fundaments belonging exclusively to this area of the law. This is the reason why this study frequently recurred to the old civil law doctrine. This approach to the matter does not make this study ill at ease since, as is well known, consumers´ law must not be seen as a totally separated branch of the legal tree. For all this reasons this study understands to have contributed modestly and unpretentiously to the study of consumers purchase agreement and the error resulting from the destabilization of consumer s volition and consentment / O advento do Código de Defesa do Consumidor (lei nº 8.078, de 11.9.990) trouxe para o ordenamento jurídico nacional não apenas uma novidade, mas principalmente um mecanismo de disciplina e um instrumento prático para a solução dos conflitos oriundos dos relacionamentos de consumo.
