Multinationella företag i en snabbföränderlig värld : En kvalitativ fallstudie om hur internationaliserad HR funktionen är i förhållande till struktur, strategi och kultur / Multinational companies in a rapidly changing world : A qualitative case study on how internationalized the HR function is in relation to structure, strategy and culture

Bertilsson, Ebba, Suu Bengtson, Sanna January 2023 (has links)
Background: Globalization has led to a rise of multinational companies. Through various internationalization strategies, multinational companies have gained a prominent role as strong players on the global stage. Internationalization strategies are seen as necessary to maintain competitiveness in a changing world. However, there is a lack of integration of the HR function in relation to the internationalization of multinational companies in theory. Purpose: To describe the degree to which the HR function in multinational companies are internationalized in relation to structure, strategy and culture. Method: The study applies an inductive approach with elements of deduction, the deduction is represented by a framing made to create a certain pre-understanding. The study is a case study of a qualitative nature. In the study, the empirical data has been collected through three data collection methods: semi-structured interview, document review and written structured interview. The empirical data has furthermore been analyzed together through a thematic analysis. The thematic analysis generated three main themes: the influence of the motherland in multinational companies, local adaptations in an international context and global challenges in a changing world. Each main theme contained three sub-themes, which were embedded in relevant theory. The study is characterized by constructionism and an interpretive approach. Conclusion: The HR function in multinational companies is to some extent internationalized in terms of structure, strategy, and culture. Furthermore, a description is given in the form of one final model showing factors that promote and inhibit the degree of internationalization.

U.S. Coast Guard reorganization: why merging the field units is not enough to remain Semper Paratus (always ready) / United States Coast Guard reorganization

Greene, Lawrence E. 03 1900 (has links)
Approved for public release, distribution is unlimited / After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the U.S. Coast Guard shifted much of its effort toward Maritime Homeland Security activities. In response to this major shift in mission priorities, the Coast Guard is merging its Operational and Marine Safety field units into Sector commands. This reorganization is designed to ensure unity of effort, allow more efficient use of resources, improve training of Coast Guard members, and ensure better customer service. This thesis shows that further reorganization will be necessary at the operational and strategic levels of the Coast Guard. The organization-wide changes recommended by the author will allow the Coast Guard to align with the new Sector field commands, better align with the other agencies within the Department of Homeland Security, and ensure the critical tenets of unity of command, unity of direction, and unity of accountability are realized. Research data gathered for this project included surveys, personal interviews, and a use-case. The author also conducted a detailed review of documents produced at a Coast Guard Reorganization Summit, other internal Coast Guard documents, and the published literature. Based on the results of this study, the author offers 10 recommendations for the leaders of the post-9/11 Coast Guard. / Lieutenant Commander, United States Coast Guard

Analyse et modélisation de l'effet des marées sur les réseaux de nivellement hydrostatiques du CERN / Analysis and filtering of the effect of tides on the hydrostatic levelling systems at CERN

Boerez, Julien 21 February 2013 (has links)
The surveyors of the Large Scale Metrology section of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) use hydrostatic levelling systems (HLS) to perform precise vertical alignment measurements. The HLS achieves micrometer accuracy, which allows it to be used for the fundamental physics experiments such as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). An HLS measures the deformations that lead to the misalignment of any particle accelerator linked to the ground, but it also measures other phenomena with very particular characteristics. Among these measured phenomena Earth tides form the main part of the signal. Their effect on HLS measurements is periodic and produces a long baseline tilt that does not lead to a relative misalignment of the magnets that constitute the accelerator. The objectives of this doctoral research are to be able to predict the effects which do not disturb the relative alignment of a particle accelerator and to remove these signals from the HLS measurements. Indeed, the horizontal and vertical positioning tolerances to be respected in the realm of particle accelerators are becoming tighter and tighter. For example, the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC), currently the object of a feasibility study, requires a 3σ alignment accuracy of 10 μm in a sliding window of 200 m, in both the transverse and vertical directions. The HLS is a candidate for measuring the vertical alignment but the amplitude of the tidal effect is approximately +/-20 μm over200 m, making it necessary to take into account this long baseline phenomenon for the instrument to meet the CLIC requirements. This doctoral thesis is inspired by previous work on the long baseline tiltmeters and describes the effects measured by HLS in order to classify the measured phenomena according to whether they could produce a misalignment of a particle accelerator or not. Finally, the tools and models to predict those effects that are well understood are used to anticipate the different signals measured by HLS installed at CERN.
