The Effect of the Use of Laser Video Disc on Achievement, Attitude, and Confidence of High School Biology StudentsGarza, Federico (Federico Angel) 08 1900 (has links)
The purpose of the study was to determine the effects of level III video disc instruction on high school biology students. There were three areas studied: students' achievement in biology, students' attitude toward biology, and confidence. The experimental group consisted of 70 biology students. The control group also consisted of 70 biology students. The teacher of the experimental group used level in video disc instruction to teach about invertebrates, vertebrates, human systems, and plants throughout the semester. The teachers of the control group taught the same topics during the same period using the traditional lecture method and without level III video disc instruction. Students took the Biology Achievement Test, the Purdue Master Attitude Scale, and the Confidence in Learning Inventory before and after the treatment period. A t-test on the pretest scores of the experimental group and the control group showed no significant difference between the two groups. The experimental group also took the Technology Preference Survey after the treatment period.

Är det här Amerika? : En kvalitativ studie om musikvideon “This is America” och dess plats i den samhälleliga kontexten. / Is This America? : A qualitative study about the music video “This is America” and its position in the social context.Alfredsson, Philip, Palmgren, Wictor January 2019 (has links)
The fact that music evoke emotions inside us is something that probably all of us are willing to agree on. Music can make us laugh, cry, dance - every possible expression of emotions can be created through it. Perhaps may the ultimate song be the one that make us feel all of these emotions at once, and make us want to listen to it, over and over again. Some songs and music videos blow up and create millions or even billions of views. At times, music can be more than just a song, making people want to sit down and discuss its meaning for hours. The song This is America and its music video is a good example of this phenomenon. The purpose of this study is to explore the elements of this particular video, how it alludes with the current political context and the aftermath that have aroused from it. To explore the reason behind the enormous popularity of this video, we composed a comprehensive research question, that goes “How are we to understand the meaning in This is America?”. From the background of our research summary, we were able to find that the ambiguousness and the potential of a wide interpretation of a popular cultural phenomenon, is what lays the ground for its popularity. Through history, it can be said that music, that have been made from alienation, have a possibility of becoming even more popular. With our research summary in hand, we broke down the music video This is America into sections, in order to learn its meaning and signification, and to understand its popularity. The video and its lyrics, brings up subjects such as gun politics in the United States, the remaining traces of slavery, and how people of colour still suffer from oppression. The enormous popularity of the video probably comes from the wide range of subjects and signs that it addresses. Basically anyone who watches it will see something they recognize, regardless of if the person is five or 105 years old. Children recognize the dances from the video game Fortnite, while the elder recognize the character Jim Crow, who they associate with the segregation in the United States in the beginning of the 20th century. A music video can tell us more than we originally think, which is also what this essay points to. If given an additional look, a music video might be able to give an insight to a world that is unknown to us. It may even open the door to provide a portrayal of society that regular media rarely presents.

Previous issue date: 2017-02-03 / CNPQ, TeCGraf/PUC-Rio / Medical image processing can contribute to the detection and diagnosis
of human body anomalies, as an important toll to minimizes the degree of
uncertainty in diagnosis, and provides specialists with an additional source of
information. Strabismus is one of these anomalies, which affects approximately
4% of the population. Strabismus modify the mechanism of vision, resulting
in aesthetical and sensory problems. The first case is reversible at any age.
Regarding sensory problems, late treatment may lead to an irreversible condition.
The cover test is one of the types of exams used to diagnose this pathology. The use
of low cost computational resources to aid in the diagnosis and treatment within
the strabismus subspecialty is not yet a reality. Therefore, this work presents
a computational methodology to automatically pre-diagnosis strabismus through
digital videos featuring cover test. To do this, the methodology was divided
in 8 stages: Acquisition (1), Detection of eyes region (2), Location of pupil (3),
Location of limbus (4) , Tracking eyes (5), Detection of occluder (6) , Detection (7)
and Diagnosis of strabismus (8). The effectiveness of the method in the indication
of the diagnosis was evaluated by comparisons made with the diagnosis provided
by the expert. For detection of strabismus, the method proposed achieved 100%
specificity, sensitivity of 80% and 93.33% accuracy and was demonstrated to be
87% accurate in diagnosing strabismus, while acknowledging measures lower than
1 prismatic diopter, and an average error of 2.57 prismatic diopters in deviation
measure. So, was demonstrated the feasibility of using computational resources
based on images processing techniques to achieve diagnosing strabismus through
cover test.

O primeiro caso é reversível a qualquer
idade.

Detecção do oclusor, (7) Detecção e (8) Diagnóstico do estrabismo. A eficácia do

Everyday matters :Bruce, Susan. Unknown Date (has links)
My research investigates the habitual, the non-monumental, the mundane, the ordinary and the everyday. I conceive of this as those moments in life that are not socially or culturally recognised as important. Traditionally, such moments have not been considered worthy of documentation and have been omitted or overlooked by mainstream media. This exegesis examines the importance of the everyday and considers how to make it conspicuous. Historically, these moments have been identified with the feminine, in that much theoretical and artistic work has emerged exploring women's experience of the everyday and testifying to its importance. Three spheres in particular have attracted critical interest: namely the body, the domestic and personal identity. For example, in 1966 Yoko Ono's 'No 4 (Bottoms)' brought the issue of the body and its banality onto centre stage by showing an endless parade of bottoms. In 1975, Chantal Akerman's film 'Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du commerce, 1080 Bruxelles', showed the everyday routines of a self-contained housewife. More recently, numerous artists have explored the politics of identity. Sadie Benning has made numerous videos that show the mundane and also reveal her personal identity, by exploring large and especially small scale details. / While conventionally newsreels and big budget documentaries have focused on 'big' events, one of the arenas that have investigated the everyday is experimental film and video. My exegesis gives a brief historical overview of this genre. Testimony in this media is often used as a voice to express the everyday. My journal entries (testimonies) deal with everyday experiences, and are interspersed throughout my exegesis. They are also the main threads in my videos. In my studio work, I use movement and dance to express in an abstract manner issues about the everyday, which include personal identity, more specifically issues of illness and sexuality / My research draws on a variety of sources including: 1970's feminist artists and filmmakers (Chantal Akerman and Martha Rosler). Many artists who were involved in the women's movement used their bodies in various art forms including performance art to make radical statements about domesticity and feminism. Contemporary artists' depiction of personal identity that mostly informed my work (in particular, queer identity) are: experimental queer film and media makers Sadie Benning, Marlon Riggs, Isaac Julien and William Yang. / Thesis (MVisualArts)--University of South Australia, 2006.

Suivi volumétrique de formes 3D non rigides / Volumetric tracking of 3D deformable shapesAllain, Benjamin 31 March 2017 (has links)
In this thesis we propose algorithms for tracking 3D deformable shapes in motion from multiview video. Although series of reconstructed 3D shapes can be obtained by applying a static reconstruction algorithm to each temporal frame independently, such series do not represent motion. Instead, we want to provide a temporally coherent representation of the sequence of shapes resulting from temporal evolutions of a shape. Precisely, we want to represent the observed shape sequence as a 3D surface mesh whose vertices move in time but whose topology is constant. In contrast with most existing approaches, we propose to represent the motion of inner shape volumes, with the aim of better accounting for the volumetric nature of the observed object. We provide a fully volumetric approach to the fundamental problems of deformable shape tracking, which are the association between corresponding shape elements and the deformation model. In particular, we extend to a volumetric shape representation the EM-ICP tracking framework and the association-by-detection strategy.Furthermore, in order to better constrain the shape tracking problem, we propose a model for the temporal evolution of deformation. Our deformation model defines a shape space parametrized by variables that capture local deformation properties of the shape and whose values are automatically learned during the tracking process. We validate our tracking algorithms on several multiview video sequences with ground truth (silhouette and marker-based tracking). Our results are better or comparable to state of the art approaches. Finally, we show that volumetric tracking and the shape representation we choose can be leveraged for producing shape animations which combine captured and simulatated motion.

Analýza genderových stereotypů v hudebních videoklipech populárních písníZDEŇKOVÁ, Nikola January 2017 (has links)
This thesis deals with the issue of gender stereotypes, which are presented in music videos in actual popular songs. The work is divided into two parts. The first, theoretical part is focused on defining the basic concepts and definitions, which are linked to the gender theory, media and media communications. Next part is showing gender in media communications with an emphasis on advertising messages and popular music. The second part deals with the actual practical research, which is primary based on Goffman's view of gender stereotyping in advertising messages. In the continuity of the theoretical part there are analyzed selected music videos. The focus is concentrated on identifying and describing the mechanisms by which the gender stereotypes in popular music are reproduced. Selected music clips were analyzed by procedures established under the content analysis. The results show how the masculinity and the femininity are displayed in contemporary popular music video clips.

[en] AN EXPERIMENTAL EVALUATION OF CONSISTENT HASHING WITH BOUNDED LOADS IN ONLINE VIDEO DISTRIBUTION / [pt] UMA AVALIAÇÃO EXPERIMENTAL DE HASHING CONSISTENTE COM CARGAS LIMITADAS NA DISTRIBUIÇÃO DE VÍDEOS ONLINEBERNARDO DE CAMPOS VIDAL CAMILO 14 December 2018 (has links)
[en] Video consumption accounts for a large part of Internet traffic today and tends to increase further in the next years. In this work, we investigate ways to improve caching in video content delivery networks (CDNs) to reduce their response time and increase the users quality of experience. From the analysis of different techniques, we concluded that consistent hashing with bounded loads has interesting characteristics for this purpose and fits adequately to the video delivery scenario. In order to verify its performance, we created an experimentation platform and, using data from a real video CDN, confronted it with the consistent hashing and the least connections balancing method, all implemented in an equivalent manner to permit a fair comparison. Lastly, we discussed the results of this evaluation, highlighting the benefits and limitations of this technique in the considered context.

'n Missiologiese evaluering van 'n aantal musiekvideosDe Bruyn, Jacob Philippus Johannes 11 1900 (has links)
Hierdie videos speel veral 'n vemame rol by die jeug as sub-kultuurgroep.
Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / D.Th. Previous issue date: 2012-01-12 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / In this study, through the difficulties encountered by students in solving problems in
trigonometry, our aim was to create activities with the help of the software GeoGebra for the
teaching of trigonometry in high school. The literature review covered the use of
computational tools in education, trigonometry teaching and the use of the software GeoGebra
in mathematics teaching. Moreover, were presented the resources used to build the product of
the dissertation and an analysis of textbooks that approach contents of Trigonometry. Initially
the survey was developed with 29 students of 2nd year of high school, in a public school in the
municipality of Santa Maria, for whom a test was administered. With the correction of the
solutions and their classification, it was found that the percentage of total or partially correct
responses did not reach 50%. Thus, from the observation of these difficulties, a set of
activities was planned to help teachers develop these topics as well as a way to allow students
to learn autonomously, through videos. The activities, developed with help of GeoGebra,
CamStudio and Screencasting, are available in two books, "Student Paper" and "Teacher
Manual", that can be used in class attendance, in school computer labs and in Distance
Education, and will be available on the website of the Master Professional course in Physics
and Mathematics Teaching, of UNIFRA.
