This study is an intensive examination of the role, position, and perceptions of women school board members in Texas as they perceive them. The purpose of this study is to examine the perceptions which women school board members have concerning their role, function, and relationships as they serve on school boards in Texas and to determine if sex prejudice does exist. There were eight basic questions to which the study sought answers. The findings indicate that the perceptions of women board members are not influenced by age, marital status, parental status, educational level, and years of experience. They also revealed that only a small minority of the Texas school board women responding had experienced instances of sex discrimination. Doubt was expressed through the responses of the women as to whether or not superintendents encourage the election of a man as board president. Size of the school district was found to have no effect on the number of women board members serving. It was found to be a factor in whether or not a woman was designated chairman of a board committee as only the larger districts were likely to have women serving in this capacity.

Syftet är att studera sambandet mellan kvinnor i styrelsen och hållbarhetsredovisningen hos företag börsnoterade i Sverige. Tidigare studier som genomförts i andra länder har visat att det finns ett positivt samband mellan andelen kvinnor i styrelser och ett företags hållbarhetsredovisning. Därför har vi i den här studien valt för att studera om andelen kvinnor i styrelsen kan hjälpa till att förklara mängden hållbarhetsredovisning även i bolag noterade på den svenska börsen, samt om andelen kvinnor kan förklara val av standard för hållbarhetsredovisningen. Studien har utgått från den positivistiska forskningsfilosofin och har en deduktiv ansats. Forskningsstrategin är kvantitativ och inhämtade sekundärdata från databasen Retriever samt årsredovisningar. Populationen i studien består av 318 företag noterade på svenska börsen där det slutliga urvalet blev 278 företag. Data har analyserats med hjälp av statistikprogrammet SPSS via en korrelationsanalys och slutligen en multivariat regressionsanalys. Studiens resultat finner inget samband mellan andelen kvinnor och mängd information i hållbarhetsredovisningen. Vi finner inte heller något samband mellan andelen kvinnor och val av ISO eller Global Compact som redovisningsstandard, dock finner vi ett samband med val av GRI som redovisningsstandard. Studien finner inte något enhälligt resultat som visar vilken den kritiska andelen kvinnor i styrelsen är. / The aim with the study is to study if there exists a relation between the number of women on board and the sustainability report in companies that´s listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange. Earlier studies show a positive relation between the number of women on board and the sustainability reports. Therefore have we chosen to study this in companies listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange. The study is based on positivist research philosophy and uses a deductive approach. We have used a quantitative method and used data from annual reports and Retriever. The population consists of 318, the final sample is 278 companies all listed at the Stockholm Stock Exchange. The data is analysed with the help of SPSS and we have done a correlation analysis and several regression analysis. The study could not find any relation between the number of women on board and the sustainability report. We also could not find any relation between the number of women on board and the choice of ISO or Global Compact. However, we could find a positive relation with GRI. The study could not find a conclusive result to show critical mass.

CSR är ett ämne där intresset växt mycket de senaste åren. Som ett resultat av det har implementeringen av socialt och miljömässigt ansvar blivit viktigt hos företag. Tidigare forskning visar att företagsstyrelsens värdegrunder samt visioner och därmed dess utformning kan ha en påverkan på hur väl de implementerar CSR. I takt med att CSR har fått större fokus har också intressenters krav på det ökat och blivit viktigt för att intressenter ska vara nöjda. Tidigare forskning har visat motstridiga resultat på hur olika styrelseattribut påverkar CSR-implementeringen. Forskning kring sambandet mellan CSR-implementering och kundnöjdhet har begränsats till länder eller branscher. Det saknas också forskning kring om CSR-implementering kan ha en medierande effekt mellan styrelsens sammansättning och nöjdheten hos intressentgruppen kunder. Studiens syfte är därför att analysera sambandet mellan styrelsens sammansättning i termer av kvinnor i styrelsen, företagsstyrelsens storlek, CSR-kommitté samt mandattiden för styrelsemedlemmarna och företagens CSR-implementering. Vidare analyseras om CSR-implementering påverkar kundnöjdheten samt om styrelsens sammansättning har ett samband med kundnöjdhet genom CSR-implementering som mediator. Studien har genomförts med ett deduktivt kvantitativt tillvägagångssätt där datainsamlingen genomfördes genom Refinitiv Eikon. Datainsamlingen gav 1004 företag, alla med GRI-rapportering. Insamlade data analyserades sedan genom multivariata regressionsanalyser som sedan ledde till en bekräftelse eller förkastning av hypoteserna. Resultatet av hypotestestningen visar i stort på motstridiga resultat jämfört med tidigare forskning eftersom alla utom en hypotes förkastades. I enighet med tidigare forskning, visar studien på att en CSR-kommittéer har en positiv påverkan på företags CSR-implementering. Hypotestestningen visar även att det inte finns ett medierande samband och att CSR-implementering inte kan förklara sambandet mellan styrelsens sammansättning och kundnöjdhet. / CSR as a subject has in the recent years sparked a lot of interest. As a result, the implementation of social and environmental commitments has become important in companies. Previous research have shown that the company board's values and visions, and thus its design, can have an impact on how well the companies implement CSR. As CSR has become more important, stakeholders' demands for it also increased and therefore it has become important for the companies to make sure the stakeholders are satisfied. Previous research has shown conflicting results on how different board attributes affect CSR implementation. There is also a lack of research on whether CSR implementation can have a mediating effect between the board attributes and the satisfaction of customers. Research on the relationship between implementation of CSR and customer satisfaction has been limited to specific countries or industries in previous research. The purpose of the study is therefore to analyze board attributes using the independent variables women's characteristics, board size, CSR committee and the tenure of the board members effects on CSR implementation. As well as analyze how CSR implementation have an impact on customer satisfaction and how the composition of the board impact customer satisfaction through CSR implementation as a mediator. The study has been conducted through a deductive quantitative approach where the data collection was gathered through Refinitiv Eikon. The data collection contained 1004 companies, all with GRI reporting. The collected data were then analyzed through multivariate regression analysis, which then led to a confirmation or rejection of the hypotheses. The results of the hypothesis testing largely show conflicting results compared to previous research as all but one of the hypotheses was rejected. In agreement with previous research, the study shows that the presence of CSR committees has a positive impact on companies' CSR implementation. The hypothesis testing also shows that there is no mediating relationship, and that CSR implementation cannot explain the relationship between board attributes and customer satisfaction.
