Elevers skolsituation kopplad till yogafilosofi

Malmström, Mariann January 2011 (has links)
The aim with the study was to use yoga philosophy as a perspective on pupils stories about school and stress. My conclusion was that pupils´ability to concentrate could improve considerably with yogapractice combined with a healthy relationship between pupil an teacher.

Yoga, och elevers upplevelse av stress

Malmström, Mariann January 2008 (has links)
The aim with the study was to examine if praciticing yoga could be helpful in stressful situations for students. The study is based on relevant literature and research, plus on quality survey of in- depth interviews with students who had practiced yoga for at least six months on a regulare basis. The interviews were intendes to find out if the students had found yoga to have any inpact on their ability to handle stress, and thus improve their ability to concentrate and to learn. To sum up, the result shows that the students thought that the practice of yoga had given them an instrument to handle stress, and thereby experienced a positive cinnection between yoga and schoolwork. Thus, the conclusion could be that yoga can be a simple and easy to access complement in special education in order to decrease the stress that negatively influences learning, concentration and motivation.

Challenging Current Exercise Prescription for Osteoarthritis of the Knee with a Yoga-Inspired Approach / Efficacy of a Biomechanically-Based Yoga Exercise Program for Knee Osteoarthritis: a Randomized Control Trial

Kuntz, Alexander Bauer 06 1900 (has links)
A randomized, controlled, clinical trial of a yoga-based exercise intervention for knee osteoarthritis / Background: Knee osteoarthritis is a chronic disease involving the breakdown of joint tissues resulting in pain and disability. Exercise provides equivalent pain relief to medication, improves physical functioning, and ameliorates co-morbidities. However, certain forms of exercise can potentially overload the joint and exacerbate symptoms; the optimal type is unknown. We developed a yoga-based exercise intervention designed for knee osteoarthritis by incorporating postures that minimize a mechanical loading variable implicated in disease progression. Purpose: The objective was to compare the efficacy of this biomechanically-tailored yoga program as treatment for knee osteoarthritis with the current “gold standard” of physical therapy, and a no-exercise attention control group. Methods: A single-blinded, 12-week, 3-arm, parallel randomized control trial was conducted. Participants (women 50 years or over, with clinical knee osteoarthritis; n=31) were stratified by disease severity and randomized to receive biomechanical yoga exercise (YE; n=10), traditional exercise (TE; n=11), or no-exercise (NE; n=10). The primary outcome measure was pain; secondary outcomes included patient-reported physical function and mobility performance; and tertiary outcomes included muscular strength, quality-of-life, and symptoms of depression. Results: The YE and TE groups demonstrated statistically and clinically significant within-group improvements in pain, physical function, and mobility performance (p<0.017), while the NE group did not. The YE group reported greater improvements in pain compared to the NE group (p=0.003). The YE group also demonstrated greater improvements in physical function compared to NE (p=0.010). There were no significant between-group differences in mobility performance, strength, quality-of-life, or depression (p>0.05). Conclusion: Yoga appears as an efficacious and well-tolerated conservative treatment option for women with knee osteoarthritis. The yoga intervention yielded comparable, and in some cases possibly greater improvements in the major burdening symptoms of the disease compared to traditional physical therapy. Future investigations with larger samples are warranted to establish effectiveness and possibly superiority to traditional exercise. / Thesis / Master of Science (MSc) / Osteoarthritis of the knee is a debilitating joint disease and a leading cause of disability. Treatment often involves medication to control pain and surgery when drugs fail. Exercise is a conservative approach to improve symptoms and quality of life. Some forms of exercise however can overload the knee and possibly worsen the disease. We have developed a yoga-inspired exercise regimen specifically for knee osteoarthritis that minimizes damaging mechanical loads. To test this program, women with knee osteoarthritis were randomly assigned to receive either 12 weeks of yoga, traditional physical therapy, or no-exercise. Before and after the intervention, pain, physical function, and mobility were measured. The yoga and traditional exercise groups demonstrated improvements in pain, physical function, and mobility; while the no-exercise group did not. In some aspects, yoga even outperformed traditional exercise. These findings suggest yoga is as effective as traditional exercise, and potentially more so, in treating knee osteoarthritis.

Yoga som behandling vid utmattningssyndrom : en systematisk kritisk litteraturgranskning / Yoga as treatment in burnout : a systematic critical literature study

Oskarsson, Viktoria, Herngren, Matilda January 2023 (has links)

Yoga inom strokerehabilitering - ett arbetsterapeutiskt perspektiv : En litteraturöversikt / The use of yoga in stroke rehabilitation from an occupational therapy perspective : A literature review

Burman, Linnéa January 2022 (has links)

Yogic Agency: The Yoga in Composition and Rhetoric

Orenstein, Abigail Heather January 2017 (has links)
Eastern practices have an increasing presence in Western locations of human services, such as mental health, hospitals, non-profits, prisons, K-12 education, among others. This trend includes the university and pedagogies of first year writing. The application of Eastern contemplative practice helps some people in certain circumstances, but its use raises questions. In the university classroom, methods like mindfulness meditation and yoga may offer perspectives that inform pedagogy. But, these interventions often lack concrete applicability to course content, oversimplify theoretical foundation of the original Eastern practices, and seem disparate from, rather than integral to, standard curriculum. My dissertation analyzes how yogic practice is already embedded in the discipline of composition and rhetoric. By resignifying rhetorical scholarship as yogic, I shape a new and amalgamated conception of agency deploying yogic and Western perspectives. I call this yogic agency. By constructing, defining, and unraveling the function of yogic agency in the writing classroom, I extract, analyze, and refigure the yogic philosophy and practice as always and already underlying scholarship of composition and rhetoric. My dissertation integrates yogic and rhetorical perspectives into one. I aim to sharpen and clarify of the role of yoga, as well as other alternative Eastern frameworks, in the Western writing classroom. There is sometimes an assumption that yoga is a pedagogical intervention replacing less effective teaching methods. This operates on the notion that our field is in a position of deficit. Instead, I generate yogic agency to illustrate the feeling of having control of one’s worldview as a means to embody a way of perceiving that one already has everything within in order to become rhetorical agents of one’s own life. I am not presenting a new way of teaching and learning but rather, a pronounced vision of the discipline as yoga surfaces within its theories. / English

Effekt av yoga på neuropatisk och nociceptiv smärta : en litteraturöversikt / Effect of yoga on neuropathic and nociceptive pain : a literature review

Granat, Wilhelm January 2024 (has links)

Aligning Mind, Body, and Spirit Through Breath in Architecture

Barrett, Katie E. 20 June 2011 (has links)
At the root of all living beings is our breath -- without it, we are not alive. Eastern practices such as yoga and meditation are conveyed through the awareness of our breath and the encouragement to be present in what our physical bodies are telling us. This awareness is a huge influence in architectural design. Building well and thinking well are in turn living well, and this architectural thesis served as a journey in discovering how human health can manifest itself in a physical building. The architectural project is an Institute for Being and is located in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington, DC. The program of this project consists of spaces to encourage people to seek their own path in spiritual grounding within the otherwise hectic urban context. / Master of Architecture

Building Spiritual Capital: The Effects of Kundalini Yoga on Adolescent Stress, Emotional Affect, and Resilience

Sarkissian, Meliné 18 March 2016 (has links) (PDF)
In order to integrate a mind, body, spirit approach in school settings, yoga programming such as Y.O.G.A. for Youth was introduced to one public and two charter schools in Los Angeles area urban neighborhoods. The study examined the effectiveness of the overall program and its effect on adolescent stress, emotional affect, and resilience. A survey was administered to measure the three dependent variables and informal interviews were conducted to determine the overall effectiveness of the program. The results of the mixed method approach indicated that the overall program was effective in creating a general sense of well-being and statistically significant in alleviating stress (p < .05), increasing positive affect (p < .05), and resilience (p < .001), in the participants (N=30).
