Hur motiveras pojkars läsintresse? : En fallstudie om barns läsvanor i årskurs 4.

The aim of this study has been to investigate the reading interest of students in grade four, aswell as which factors are considered to influence their motivation and attitude towardsreading. The study's collection method is partly quantitative where 38 students haveanswered a questionnaire, partly qualitative where 12 students have been interviewed, ofwhich 6 are boys and 6 are girls. The selection of the participants was determined through aconvenience sample from a school nearby, located in southwestern Sweden, where twodifferent classes in the fourth grade participated. The study aims to answer two researchquestions, one of which investigated whether there were differences between boys and girlsmotivation and attitude towards reading, and if so, how it manifested itself. The secondresearch question investigated which factors influenced students motivation and attitudetowards reading. The result showed that no significant gender differences could be found inmotivation. However, several differences were found between boys and girls in attitudetowards reading. Factors that influence the students motivation and attitude are, among otherthings, the reading culture that exists in the children’s home, whether the reading isexperienced as interesting or not and how the teacher uses the students' interests in the workto promote the students interest in and consumption of reading.
