Förskollärares syn på sin roll i musikundervisning i förskola

The aim of this study is to examine how preschool teachers view their own role in music education and which function they consider music to have in a preschool context. In addition to this, the study also aims to examine the differences between regular preschool teachers and preschool teachers with a music profiled education. The empirical data is collected through Google Forms, where 30 preschool teachers responded. The material was then analyzed from Biestas (2011) theories about the functions of education, and Nielsens (2006) perspective regarding musical dimensions. The result showed that preschool teachers with a musical background feel more confident to use music in education, and do so on a more regular basis, than those without any musical experience. Many of the informants claim that they consider music a must in preschools, but most of them use it as a tool, rather than an educational goal. This could be because of the lack of musical training, and because music is considered something you learn in your own free time and not during the teacher education.
