”Jag gör så gott jag kan” : En fenomenografisk studie av sångpedagogers upplevelser av distansundervisning under Covid-19 pandemin / ”I’m doing as well as I’m able to” : A phenomenographical study of singing teachers’ experiences of remote education during the Covid-19 pandemic

This essay is a qualitative study of the experience of 12 singing teachers with teaching singers remotely during the Covid-19 pandemic. The purpose of the essay is to see how the experiences of the teachers differ from each other, which is achieved through a phenomenographic analysis of qualitative interviews conducted with the participating teachers.   The study’s findings indicate that there are several areas in which the experiences differ between teachers. Firstly, the degree to which they try and emulate traditional teaching practices. Secondly, the degree of stress and unease in regards to the teaching situation. Thirdly, their attitude towards remote teaching compared to traditional teaching practices. Fourthly, their relationship to the technological aspects of remote teaching and to what degree they experience them as obstacles or advantages. And lastly the degree to which they prescribe responsibility onto the student for their education. Additionally, two areas of note were observed where there was no apparent variance in the experiences; the mental health of students and the lack of preparation and knowledge in regard to the remote teaching.
