The business intelligence mediator

Wall, Nicklas January 2017 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to provide a positioning of business intelligence in a changing environment and proving its affected aspects. Put within company’s ongoing change process. The study wishes to harmonize the acceptance of a technological change. This is pursued by highlighting (selected) factors that generate an effect on the uncertainty of an adjustment. The study is conducted as to create a low cost as possible to enable businesses to achieve goals and visions straightforward. This study provides guidelines in how a business intelligence system acts upon ongoing change in an organization. The phenomenon of change will be covered through an in-depth investigation of a company that is in the initiation and implementation phase of a BI system. By understanding the current thoughts and discussions of the personnel - and following how these requests are answered by the investment, a further discussion will be found within organizational change theory. This research gets support from an emergent, inductive and qualitative approach when discovering concepts and key variables that exist at the analyzed company. In this study I will identify factors associated with requests. Conclusively, variables of proactivity, duality, risk management and accesibility were found to be inharmonious factors for change. This realization was made possible through inductive research as well as through prior theory. The business intelligence brings a shared knowledge pool, acting as a great mediator for a firms change process. Most business’ have an ocean of information. Virtually every organization keeps records of their transactions, customers and products (among many). Nursing all this information and becoming conscious of the data makes the user transmorph and/or advance to a position of command. The user and/or organization with the power is the one succeeding. If a company is able to exactly understand it’s customers, they have the ability to churn the profits better. Creating an ever better change process.

Self-Service Business Intelligence

Eduardo Cardoso de Abreu 29 September 2016 (has links)
The production management systems in industrial companies produce large amounts of data, but it is not always easy to take the necessary indicators for decision making. Solving this issue is the purpose of analytical processing tools (Business Intelligence), that extract relevant information from the operating systems and produce the reports requested by the managers, but frequently using the help of experts. The need to have an IT department as an intermediary generates delays, reducing the company's decision-making capacity, so there was a need to create tools of Self-Service Business Intelligence (SSBI). These allow employees without IT knowledge to interrogate the database, obtaining the information they desire immediately, in addition to being able to better explore the information stored. Critical Manufacturing (CMF), the company where this dissertation was made, is a software development company with general BI and SSBI solutions for its own production management system (MES) cmNAVIGO. However, there are many companies without the funds to purchase these solutions, due to the considerable costs in licensing and infrastructure, but nevertheless wish to obtain some of their benefits. The aim of this work is to integrate one SSBI prototype tool into cmNAVIGO, allowing non-experts to interrogate the data and produce dashboards through a graphical interface. To do this, some tools SSBI and dashboard builders were selected and evaluated on their approaches, features, advantages and disadvantages, to determine the best path for the project. With the tool chosen, different approaches to the implementation of a simplified data model were studied, allowing the end user to interact with the data he considers most relevant.

Policy Design for Competitive Retail Electric Institutions| Artificial Intelligence Representations for a Common Property Resource Approach

Pandit, Nitin S. 25 January 2017 (has links)

The U.S. electricity industry is being restructured to increase competition. Although existing policies may lead to efficient wholesale institutions, designing policies for the retail level is more complex because of intricate interactions between individuals and quasi-monopolistic institutions. It is argued that Hirshman's ideas of "exit" and "voice" (Hirshman, 1970) provide powerful abstractions for design of retail institutions. While competition is a known mechanism of "exit," a novel design of the "voice" mechanism is demonstrated through an artificial intelligence (AI) based software process model. The process model of "voice" in retail institutions is designed within the economic context of electricity distribution — a common property resource (CPR), characterized by technological uncertainty and path-dependency. First, it is argued that participant feedback (voice) has to be used effectively to manage the CPR. Further, it is noted that the decision process, of using participant feedback (voice) to incrementally manage uncertainty and path-dependencies, is non-monotonic because it requires the decision makers to often retract previously made assumptions and decisions. An AI based process model of "voice" is developed using an assumption-based truth maintenance system. The model can emulate the non-monotonic decision making process and therefore assist in decision support. Such a systematic framework is flexible, consistent, and easily reorganized as assumptions change. It can provide an effective, formal "voice" mechanism to the retail customers and improve institutional performance.
