The Effect of Joint Training on Knowledge and Attitudes of Career and Technical Education and Special Education Professionals

Emery, Crystal 01 August 2019 (has links)
Career and technical education (CTE) is a set of career-focused courses and pathways that provide students with technical skills and knowledge which can lead to future employment and postsecondary education. Concentration in a career and technical education pathway while still in high school supports job exploration for school-age youth and is correlated with higher levels of full-time employment after high school. This is especially true for students with disabilities. Special Education (SPED) is the educational support system for students with disabilities. CTE and SPED professionals have struggled to effectively collaborate to serve students with disabilities. Infrequent and inconsistent communication between CTE and SPED professionals as well as limited time and opportunities are barriers to effective collaboration between these professional groups. Joint training with SPED and CTE teachers may be a crucial component to a successful collaboration process. The purpose of this research is to explore the effect of joint training and collaborative teaming with CTE and SPED professionals on their knowledge and attitudes of collaboration in serving students with disabilities. The activities in this research study involved educating SPED and CTE professionals in a joint training on working together to effectively serve students with disabilities. Time for collaborative teaming and strategizing between SPED and CTE professionals was included in the training. Knowledge and attitudes were measured before and after the training. This study demonstrated that joint training and collaborative teaming with CTE and SPED professionals increased knowledge of both disciplines and improved attitudes about collaboration between disciplines. Improved knowledge and attitudes toward collaboration resulted from professionals creating a sense of network and community as they worked in interdisciplinary teams.

Leadership style in Swiss evangelical churches in the light of their historically shaped leadership culture

Russenberger, Michael 15 June 2004 (has links)
This thesis is a socio-historical study which shows the correlation between the historically developed leadership culture of democracy and the leadership practice within the evangelical churches of Switzerland. After clarifying the theological understanding in the mutual relationship of leadership and culture, first the historical development of the Swiss leadership culture is described. This development is rooted in the cultural heritage of the Celts, the Romans and the Alemannen, as well as in the history of the Swiss-Confederation and the history of Christianity. In the light of this historically founded leadership culture, the study deals further with the present leadership situation of the evangelical churches. Central fundamental values of the Swiss-leadership-culture prove to be: No power to the individual, democratic right of co-determination, federalist freedom and the importance of achievement and work. The thesis concludes with an outlook on servant leadership as an up-to-date answer to the present Swiss leadership culture. / Practical Theology / MTH (PRACTICAL THEOLOGY)

Framtagning av en ergonomisk produkt för servering av dryck på flygplan : Fallstudie hos August Lundh

Bodlander, Gabriella, Simonsson, Jennifer January 2016 (has links)
To prevent damage to the cabin crew an optimal coffee- and teapot in a number of aspects in airline catering was developed, so called “SAS-kannan”. It was launched in 1980 and has been manufactured in over 300 000 copies, which has worn out the mold and it is in need of replacement. The mold is advanced and it will be expensive to manufacture a new one. August Lundh who is the manufacture of “SAS-kannan” today, want to develop a new product for serving drinks with a cost-effective manufacturing. It should involve the positive qualities on the “SAS-kannan” and be adapted to today's airline catering. The objective of the thesis was to develop an ergonomic and functional product for serving cold drinks with cost-effective production and the adaptation to today's storage trolleys on aircrafts. The research began with a comprehensive theoretical framework consisting of scientific articles and academic approved books. Interviews were made to complement the theoretical framework and primary data was collected. All the gathered information was examined in the next step to ensure the validity and reliability. A case study was conducted at August Lundh by a product development that was based on the examined information. To do more detailed tests 3Dprintings were created of each development. The result was a pitcher that is designed to enable an uncomplicated and ergonomic use. It is also adapted for efficient and stable storage in the ATLASboxes, easy filling of the beverage and washing. The pitcher holds 1.5 liters and is a perfect combination of the number of servings, refills of the pitcher and a low weight. The pitcher is made with injection molding and is made out of the Bisfenol A free plastic Tritan. The grip is designed to give the pitcher an ergonomic use for different sized hands and it is symmetrical to allow equal use of both left and right handed. The spout provides a controlled and even beam, and a drip free serving by cutting the beam properly. The spout is designed so that the pitcher only needs to be tilted 90 degrees from an upright position to be emptied. The lid is a separate part which is put on the pitcher with press-fit and it helps to control the beam during serving and to prevent spills in case of turbulence. The authors believe that the objective has been accomplished by a thorough theoretical framework and an empirical study through interviews and a case study.

Delar av en grav och glimtar av en tid : Om yngre romersk järnålder, Tuna i Badelunda i Västmanland och personen i grav X / Parts of a Grave and Glimpses of a Time : A discussion of the Late Roman Iron Age, Tuna in Badelunda in Västmanland and the person in Grave X

Fernstål, Lotta January 2004 (has links)
Grave X was found in 1952 during construction work in Tuna in Badelunda parish, in the province of Västmanland. Objects from this 3rd Century grave were dispersed and the stone grave covering and cist-like wooden burial chamber were cut almost in half as a result of the construction work that unearthed it. The purpose of this dissertation is to create a better understanding of Tuna in Badelunda and to place Grave X and the person buried there in context. Due to my interest in Grave X and the person in this grave, the scope of the study is limited to Tuna during the Late Roman Iron Age. What kind of place may Tuna in Badelunda have been during that time? Which kinds of knowledge may the person in Grave X have possessed and what roles may this person have had in local society? How may this person have acted in Tuna in Badelunda in particular? Why was this person buried in the specific type of structure that was Grave X? To answer these questions, ancient monuments and phenomena in the Tuna area, objects from the grave and construction details of the grave are discussed. Specifically, I examine the name Tuna, stone enclosures, hillforts of Bejby borg-character and travel routes, beads, golden rings in the shape of snakes, vessels and serving utensils, and the stone grave covering and cist-like chamber. Since Grave X was partly ruined when discovered, comparisons are made to about 20 similar graves from other parts of Scandinavia in order to get an idea of what may have been lost from Grave X. A performative-constructive gender perspective is of importance in this dissertation, as well as the concept of creolization. The kinds of knowledge and the societal roles the person in Grave X may have had can be summarized in five categories or contexts of action: production within the (social-political) economy of the farm, ritual performances, physical communication, textile production, and oral performances with the telling of stories and relating of memories. Possible personal strategies in relation to the activities the person in question was involved in are seen as important. One way this dissertation takes up this subject is through the discussion of the role the person may have had in greetings and farewells in the yard of the farm (Sw. tun, gårdsplan). Greetings and farewells were probably of importance, and Tuna is discussed as a crossroads. This means that although a local perspective is advocated in this dissertation, Tuna may not be seen as an isolated community, but rather as a small place that to a great extent partook in the larger world. This can also be seen in Grave X; when the person in this grave was buried, the living made choices that both expressed local traditions and made reference to far-away places. In contrast to the surrounding graves, the person in Grave X was not cremated. One of many possible reasons may have been a desire to emphasize the person’s personality and gender as well as roles in society. / <p>Auktoriserad namnform i LIBRIS: Fernstål, Charlotte, 1974-</p>

The campus climate of a border HSI : redefining Latino student success

Cortez, Laura Jean 15 June 2011 (has links)
The number of Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) is on the rise. Research suggests that institutions designated as HSIs graduate over fifty percent of Latinos enrolled in college (Santiago, 2006). However, few studies have examined the campus climate of HSIs and how such climate may influence the degree attainment of first-generation, Mexican American students. Considering the instrumental role HSIs have had in advancing the number of Latinos in postsecondary education, this study investigates the campus climate of an HSI along the U.S.-Mexico Border. By utilizing the theoretical frameworks of funds of knowledge (Moll, Amanti, Neff & Gonzalez, 1992) and organizational habitus (McDonough, 1997) this qualitative study involved first-generation, Mexican American students, faculty, and administrators from the University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA). Data collection methods included: student focus groups, individual interviews, observations, reflective notes and a review of relevant documents. Instrumentation used for this study incorporated a student questionnaire as well as pre-established interview questions. Findings revealed students’ perceptions of a Border HSIs, the experiences they describe as helpful in allowing them to obtain a degree; and the institutional characteristics faculty and administrators found critical in allowing first-generation, Mexican American students to persist. This study builds upon a pilot conducted in 2009-2010, that assessed Latino students’ perceptions of HSIs. The goal of this study is 1) to contribute to the literature on first-generation, Mexican American student success and 2) to further enrich our knowledge about the campus climate of Border HSIs and their role in degree attainment of Latinos. / text
