Wennerlund Carlsten, Tilde January 2017 (has links)
This thesis is a study on how to design a multifunctional preschool room in order to make it inviting to its users and to support its functions as well as facilitate the shift between the various activities. The purpose of the design work is to create a legible and inviting environment for preschool children to stay in and to facilitate the teachers' work. This study is based on a specific room at Krongatan preschool in Eskilstuna, Sweden. The current design of the room is not supporting the users’ needs and it is not adjusted to the several activities that are supposed to be performed there. The study is based on qualitative interviews and an analysis of the room to identify the users’ needs. It is also based on theories and previous research about the spatial design elements colour, light, form and material, as well as theories of affordances and design principles. Based on these theories and methods, a design proposal for the multifunctional preschool room has been developed. The proposed design consists of a number of flexible solutions and design elements that are selected from theory in order to accomplish an environment that meet the users’ needs and creates conditions to solve the practical problems.

Aide à la conception de légendes personnalisées et originales : proposition d'une méthode coopérative pour le choix des couleurs / Helping users to make on-demand and original legends : proposition of a cooperative method to choose colours

Christophe, Sidonie 30 October 2009 (has links)
Le modèle de dialogue ainsi proposé est implémenté dans le prototype COLorLEGend (COLLEG) / Helping users to make on-demand and original legends : proposition of a cooperative method to choose colours Current cartographic tools allow technically novice and expert users to make maps. However resulting legends may be of poor quality because users do not know how to make good choices of graphic representation and especially good choices of colours. Cartographic expertise including semiologic rules and colour perception knowledge (contrasts and harmony) is required. If users are not experts, cartographic tools should other them this expertise. In this context, we want to help users to design customized and original legends, by helping them to select suitable colours. We propose a cooperative method in four stages : 1- selection of an inspiration source, 2- identification of user's colour preferences on inspiration sources, 3- interpretation of preferences and design of suitable legends, 4- refinement of legends. Two legend design strategies, based on map samples and master paintings, are used. However, conflicts between the user and the system may appear. Therefore we propose to rely on human-machine dialog techniques in order to better adapt the process to the user. A dialog model is implemented and the prototype COLorLEGend (COLLEG) is presented

Experimental investigations on sooty flames at elevated pressures

Gohari Darabkhani, Hamid January 2010 (has links)
This study addresses the influence of elevated pressures, fuel type, fuel flow rate and co-flow air on the flame structure and flickering behaviour of laminar oscillating diffusion flames. Photomultipliers, high speed photography and schlieren, accompanied with digital image processing techniques have been used to study the flame dynamics. Furthermore, the effects of pressure on the flame geometry and two-dimensional soot temperature distribution in a laminar stable diffusion flame have been investigated, utilising narrow band photography and two-colour pyrometry technique in the near infra-red region. This study provides a broad dataset on the diffusion (sooty) flame properties under pressures from atmospheric to 16 bar for three gaseous hydrocarbon fuels (methane, ethylene and propane) in a co-flow burner facility. It has been observed that the flame properties are very sensitive to the fuel type and flow rate at elevated pressures. The cross-sectional area of the stable flame shows an average inverse dependence on pressure to the power of n, where n was found to be 0.8±0.2 for ethylene flame, 0.5±0.1 for methane flame and 0.6±0.1 for propane flame. The height of a flame increases firstly with pressure and then decreases with further increase of pressure. It is observed that the region of stable combustion was markedly reduced as pressure was increased. An ethylene flame flickers with at least three dominant modes, each with corresponding harmonics at elevated pressures. In contrast, methane flames flicker with one dominant frequency and as many as six harmonic modes at elevated pressures. The increase in fuel flow rate was observed to increase the magnitude of oscillation. The flickering frequency, however, remains almost constant at each pressure. The dominant flickering frequency of a methane diffusion flame shows a power-law dependence on chamber pressure. It has been observed that the flame dynamics and stability are also strongly affected by the co-flow air velocity. When the co-flow velocity reached a certain value, the buoyancy driven flame oscillation was completely suppressed. The schlieren imaging has revealed that the co-flow of air is able to push the initiation point of outer toroidal vortices beyond the visible flame to create a very stable flame. The oscillation frequency was observed to increase linearly with the air co-flow rate. The soot temperature results obtained by applying the two-colour method in the near infra-red region shows that in diffusion flames the overall temperatures decrease with increasing pressure. It is shown that the rate of temperature drop is greater for a pressure increase at lower pressures in comparison with higher pressures.

Multivariate non-invasive measurements of skin disorders

Nyström, Josefina January 2006 (has links)
The present thesis proposes new methods for obtaining objective and accurate diagnoses in modern healthcare. Non-invasive techniques have been used to examine or diagnose three different medical conditions, namely neuropathy among diabetics, radiotherapy induced erythema (skin redness) among breast cancer patients and diagnoses of cutaneous malignant melanoma. The techniques used were Near-InfraRed spectroscopy (NIR), Multi Frequency Bio Impedance Analysis of whole body (MFBIA-body), Laser Doppler Imaging (LDI) and Digital Colour Photography (DCP). The neuropathy for diabetics was studied in papers I and II. The first study was performed on diabetics and control subjects of both genders. A separation was seen between males and females and therefore the data had to be divided in order to obtain good models. NIR spectroscopy was shown to be a viable technique for measuring neuropathy once the division according to gender was made. The second study on diabetics, where MFBIA-body was added to the analysis, was performed on males exclusively. Principal component analysis showed that healthy reference subjects tend to separate from diabetics. Also, diabetics with severe neuropathy separate from persons less affected. The preliminary study presented in paper III was performed on breast cancer patients in order to investigate if NIR, LDI and DCP were able to detect radiotherapy induced erythema. The promising results in the preliminary study motivated a new and larger study. This study, presented in papers IV and V, intended to investigate the measurement techniques further but also to examine the effect that two different skin lotions, Essex and Aloe vera have on the development of erythema. The Wilcoxon signed rank sum test showed that DCP and NIR could detect erythema, which is developed during one week of radiation treatment. LDI was able to detect erythema developed during two weeks of treatment. None of the techniques could detect any differences between the two lotions regarding the development of erythema. The use of NIR to diagnose cutaneous malignant melanoma is presented as unpublished results in this thesis. This study gave promising but inconclusive results. NIR could be of interest for future development of instrumentation for diagnosis of skin cancer.

Martins, Amanda Eburneo January 2019 (has links)
(Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: Vision is the main sense used to forage by pollinators being the flower colour the primary feature of attraction. Colour signals perception depend on the flower background colouration, mainly composed by leaves. Differences in species composition and vegetation structure, and also the seasonality, may change the leaf-background colouration of different vegetations and seasons, interfering how the pollinators perceive a flower. Therefore, flower colour diversity and flowering patterns of a community may be related to the pollinators’ composition and environmental conditions. Using a community level-approach and according to bee visual system, we described and compared the flower colour diversity and the signals of a temperate and two tropical seasonal vegetations, considering their leaf background colouration. Then, to link flower signals to seasonality and using the cerrado sensu stricto as a model of seasonal vegetation, we analysed the importance of the surveyed pollination syndromes, the community flowering pattern, flowering patterns according to the colour of flowers and the influence of seasonal changes in the background colouration in the flower colour signals between seasons. We found differences in flower colour diversity and confirmed the influence of the leaf- background colouration, along with the vegetation structure and seasonality intensity, in flower colour signals displayed in different seasonal vegetations according to the colour vision of bees. Higher value... (Complete abstract click electronic access below) / Mestre

Dlouhodobé testy pro ověření odolnosti nátěrových hmot v různých nepříznivých prostředích simulujících reálné vlivy / Long-term tests for examination of surface treatments in various adverse environments simulating real effects

Hudečková, Petra January 2018 (has links)
Cement bonded particleboards contain organic base and as they are set outside, extreme weather condition, such as frost, chemical defrosting substances or sulphates, cause their degradation. The presence of the organic base in the matrix of the material could be the reason why there is higher probability of degrading when compared with materials containing an inorganic base. It could be partially eliminated by an appropriate surface modification of the slab, which main goal is to weaken the impact of an aggressive environment and to extend the lifespan of the board. On the other hand, the surface modifications based on a polymer base are prone to degrade because of other unfavourable conditions such as UV radiation when compared with the cement bonded particleboard. The classification of the surface modifications and the way of their degradation caused by the aggressive environment in real applications are presented in the theoretical part of the thesis. In the experimental part, appropriate methodical ways of testing the resistance of cement bonded particleboard’s coating system were chosen. Then, the testing and comparing of the physical, mechanical and aesthetic properties of different types of coatings were done. Moreover, a spectrophotometric analysis of the colour shade changes for the different aggressive environment were carried out. Furthermore, microstructures of chosen surface modifications were assessed by using an optical and an electron microscope.

Měření kvality osvětlení na operačních sálech / Measurement of operating room lights quality

Rovná, Tereza January 2016 (has links)
This thesis is focused on measuring the quality of lighting in operating rooms. Operating lights are very demanding in terms of quality requirements for each parameter, so it is important to specify exactly these parameters and check them regurarly. To measure the quality of the light source, was used a special kit from Maquet. Measurement procedure was not as accurate as it was for operating lighting need, therefore, this work includes a proposal to improve the measurement of quality lighting in operating theaters. In cooperation with University Hospital Brno Bohunice University Hospital Motol and the company Maquet measured nine operating lights, each light were compared in terms of parameters such as maximum light intensity, light distribution in the surgical field. In each category were selected several lighting, which reached the best results. The various parameters were compared with values declared by the manufacturer.
