A Study of Factors That Influence Interest in Geriatric Social Work Among Master of Social Work Students in Metropolitan AtlantaDavis, Dacia D 31 July 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to determine if aging attitudes, informal knowledge and formal education impact Master of Social Work (MSW) student interest in geriatric social work. A total of 70 MSW students participated in this study. The students were recruited from several metropolitan Atlanta MSW programs. A quantitative research design was employed, and surveys were used to gather the data. This study was designed to document the characteristics of MSW students and to predict interest based on perceptions using Ordinal Regression analysis. There was statistical significance identified with the aging attitudes and formal education variables and no statistical significance identified with the informal knowledge variable. The conclusions from this study suggest continued research regarding the factors influencing interest in geriatric social work.

Longtemps ignoré, le principe de concentration a reçu ses lettres de noblesse des mains du juge, dans le retentissant arrêt « Cesareo » du 7 juillet 2006. Une décennie plus tard, il est consacré par le pouvoir réglementaire et devient la clé de voûte du procès civil. Les exigences de réunion de la matière litigieuse encadrent désormais la liberté procédurale des parties dans la détermination de l’objet du litige. Principe directeur ou simple norme oublieuse des garanties du droit au procès équitable, la concentration inspire autant l’engouement que la défiance. Une étude apaisée de la relation entre le principe de concentration et le procès civil nécessite de redécouvrir ce principe. Ses origines et l’étendue de son champ d’application n’ont, à ce jour, jamais été étudiées. La dissimulation de la concentration derrière l’autorité de la chose jugée voile nombre de ses aspects. Identifier l’autonomie de la norme de concentration et sa valeur principielle est le but de la première partie de l’étude. Faire valoir sa légitimité par la mise en exergue de ses utilités est le dessein de la seconde partie. S’il est tentant de réduire le principe de concentration à la seule célérité des procédures, ses utilités sont en réalité bien plus riches. Une fois resitué parmi les autres principes du procès civil, il apparaît comme un modèle d’équilibre aux confins de l’efficience et de l’équité. Finalement, la compréhension de la relation entre le principe de concentration et le procès civil supposait de mettre en lumière l’existence et l’essence d’un principe directeur « émergent » dans un système normatif en quête de repères. / The longtime ignored principle of concentration had its important status restored by the judge in the resounding Cesareo case on the 7th of July 2006. A decade later, this principle is enshrined by the regulatory power as the back bone of the civil action. The procedural freedom of the parties in determining the object of litigation is henceforth conditioned by the clustering subject-matter in dispute. As a guideline or a simple rule defying the due process rights, the concentration principal raises the interest as much as the diffidence.The mediating analysis of the relationship between the civil trial and the principle of concentration implies revisiting the later. The sources and the extension of the scope have not yet been studied, as the principle was commonly dealt with in the res judicata perspective, thus concealing its ontological aspects. It was therefore essential, in the first part of the analysis, to identify it as an autonomous norm, as well as to determine the value as a principle. In the second part, its legitimacy was revealed by underlining the manifold usefulness of the principal that can no longer be reduced to a mere expediting proceedings tool. Among the principles of the civil process, the concentration is an equilibrium model between efficiency and equity. Understanding the relationship between the concentration principle and the civil trial ultimately revealed the existence and the essence of a guiding principle that “emerges” in a normative system in search of reference points.

O presente trabalho visa, a partir de uma perspectiva histórico-cultural, aprofundar a compreensão acerca da constituição de um sujeito adulto e autista, analisando a narrativa de sua história de vida, passando pela vivência escolar e depois pela experiência ativista e militante em defesa dos direitos da comunidade autista e da transformação social. São discutidos temas como as diferentes concepções de autismo, a problemática da escolarização, e, com base nas contribuições de Vigotski,o desenvolvimento do adulto, a relação entre deficiência e desenvolvimento, bem como o papel da educação nesse processo. Tal discussão embasou uma análise qualitativa acerca dos processos de formação de conceitos eda constituição da personalidade, incluindo a resistência como característica importante dessa personalidade. Assim, partindo de uma concepção social da constituição do sujeito, foi possível identificar algumas relações que se apresentaram como parte de todo esse processo e que tornam possível, por exemplo, se reafirmar a importância de uma educação para a emancipação (conceito de Mészáros) do sujeito. / The present work aims, from a historical-cultural perspective, to deepen the understanding about the constitution of an adult and autistic subject, analyzing the narrative of his life history, going through the school experience and then through the activist experience and militant in defense of the rights of the autistic community and social transformation. Topics such as the different conceptions of autism, the problem of schooling, and, based on the contributions of Vygotsky, adult development, the relation between disability and development, as well as the role of education in this process are discussed. This discussion was based on a qualitative analysis about the processes of concept formation and the constitution of the personality, including resistance as an important characteristic of this personality. Thus, starting from a social conception of the constitution of the subject, it was possible to identify some relations that appeared as part of this whole process and that make it possible, for example, to reaffirm the importance of an education for emancipation (Mészáros concept) subject.

Difficult Knowledge and Alternative Perspectives in Ontario's History CurriculumSeguin, Kimberley 08 July 2019 (has links)
This study used qualitative research methods to analyze the ways in which difficult knowledge is represented in Ontario’s 2013 and revised 2018 history curriculum (Grades 7, 8, 10). Difficult knowledge promotes serious discussions about weighty topics – often entrenched in collective memory – and invites readers to reflect on the different values, beliefs, and perspectives around such topics. In this study, difficult histories refer to contested depictions of past violence and oppression as they appear in historical narratives and curricular frameworks (Epstein and Peck, 2017). Examining the curriculum using the lens of difficult knowledge allowed me to consider how educators might foster reconciliation through engagement with chapters in Canadian history. The content analysis considered the difficult knowledge topics in history curricula and the approaches proposed to encourage perspective-taking. The study used a critical sociocultural approach to explore how Ontario’s official curriculum represents difficult knowledge using multiple perspectives in general, and Indigenous perspectives, specifically. In an effort to gain a better understanding of the curricular resources currently available, this study contributes to knowledge growth by identifying entry points in the curriculum that serve to help teachers introduce difficult knowledge using disciplinary thinking and Indigenous epistemic themes. The main goal with this research is to provide recommendations to guide policy, research, and practice in the integration of Indigenous perspectives and knowledges in ways that are meaningful to learners.

Esta dissertação investiga, por meio de uma leitura imanente da filosofia de Nietzsche, a relação problemática entre perspectivismo e relativismo em sua obra. Inscrito na efetividade, concebida como vontades de potência que se exercem de modo perspectivístico e interpretante, o perspectivismo propõe a ideia de que não existem fatos, mas apenas interpretações perspectivísticas. Cumpre então perguntar se tal perspectivismo incorreria num relativismo radical, segundo o qual todas as interpretações seriam equivalentes. Procuraremos mostrar que não é possível responder a esse problema de modo unilateral, com um simples e taxativo sim ou não. Por um lado, o exame de seus escritos indica que Nietzsche não pretenderia assumir a posição de um relativista radical na medida em que hierarquiza as interpretações e reivindica a superioridade de sua própria interpretação de mundo. Mais do que isso, sua filosofia aponta até mesmo para a inviabilização daquele relativismo: ao associar os conceitos de perspectiva e interpretação ao de valor, indica que toda perspectiva e toda interpretação avaliam e hierarquizam, de modo que inexistiriam perspectivas e interpretações que efetivamente considerassem as demais como dotadas de mesmo valor. Por outro lado, se admitida a concepção de uma efetividade perspectivística e interpretativa, então todo e qualquer critério estabelecido para hierarquizar as interpretações teria de ser relativo a uma perspectiva e a uma interpretação determinadas, não consistindo num critério incondicionado e objetivo. Assim, uma vez considerada a relatividade de todo critério, ressurge o problema do relativismo. / This dissertation researches, through an immanent reading of Nietzsches philosophy, the problematic relationship between perspectivism and relativism in his work. Intrinsic in the reality, conceived as wills to power that express themselves in a perspectivist and interpretive way, the perspectivism argues that there are no facts, but only perspectivist interpretations. So it is necessary to ask whether such a perspectivism incur a radical relativism, according to which all interpretations would be equivalent. We shall try to show that it is not possible to answer this problem unilaterally, with a simple yes or no. On the one hand, the examination of his writings indicates that Nietzsche would not intend to take the position of a radical relativist, for he ranks the interpretations and claims the superiority of his own interpretation of the world. More than that, his philosophy would point to the impossibility of that relativism: since Nietzsche associates the concepts of perspective and interpretation with the concept of value, he indicates that every perspective and every interpretation evaluate and rank, so that there would not be perspectives and interpretations that effectively could consider the others as equivalent. On the other hand, if we accept the conception of a perspectivist and interpretive reality, so any criterion fixed in order to rank the interpretations would depend on a certain perspective and interpretation, and thus it would not be an unconditional and objective one. Hence, since we consider that any criterion is relative, the problem concerning relativism resurfaces.

Key words: perspective taking, age differences, motivational trigger hypothesis, experimental manipulation / Moreover, in Experiment 2, with a distance manipulation, both younger and older adults showed impaired performance in emotion recognition. Findings from these two experiments supported the Motivational Trigger Hypothesis , such that the well-documented poor performance in perspective taking tasks of older adults might be due to a lack of motivation instead of a lack of ability to perform in laboratory settings. In daily contexts, especially with someone close to them, older adults might be more motivated to take others' perspective and thus perform better on the perspective-taking tasks. / There was a folk notion of increased perspective taking abilities with age, such that older adults should be better at understanding others' behavior and intention, and show greater empathy to others. However, empirical studies on older adults showed the reverse pattern. In a series of experiments, I investigated the phenomenon from a motivational perspective. In Experiment 1, I manipulated perceived closeness between participants and the experimenter in a faux pas recognition task, and in Experiment 2, I manipulated perceived closeness as well as distance between participants and the target in an emotion recognition task, to examine whether the experimental manipulations could influence participants' performance in the two perspective taking tasks. The results revealed that in the control condition without any experimental manipulation, the well-documented negative age effect was only replicated in both faux pas recognition and emotion recognition. Os dispositivos médicos desempenham um papel crucial na gestão de doenças crônicas, e são utilizados por diferentes usuários, em configurações variadas de ambientes, para o tratamento de diferentes doenças com diferentes níveis de gravidade. Esta dissertação tem por objetivo contribuir na captação, mensuração e análise da percepção do usuário em relação ao uso do dispositivo médico. Como objetivos secundários, tem-se: (i) analisar na literatura abordagens e técnicas de avaliação da usabilidade de dispositivos médicos sob a perspectiva do usuário; (ii) desenvolver e ilustrar, através de um estudo de caso com pacientes de hemodiálise, uma metodologia para avaliação da usabilidade de dispositivos médicos; e (iii) apresentar um procedimento de análise para avaliar a usabilidade de dispositivos médicos na perspectiva do paciente de hemodiálise, identificando quais características do contexto de uso podem afetar esta avaliação. Para atingir os objetivos de pesquisa, a dissertação é composta por três artigos que contemplam cada um dos objetivos mencionados anteriormente. No primeiro artigo foram avaliados 42 estudos, na qual cinco abordagens foram mais comumente utilizadas: entrevista, testes de usabilidade, percurso cognitivo, observação e questionário. Para o segundo e terceiro artigos, um estudo de caso com pacientes de hemodiálise foi conduzido. Questionários estruturados foram aplicados para pacientes em ambientes reais de uso, contendo questões a cerca da percepção de uso (máquina, procedimento e ambiente). No segundo artigo uma metodologia para avaliação centrada no usuário de dispositivos médicos foi proposta. Um fluxo detalhado foi gerado, composto por três etapas: planejamento, estudo de campo e análise dos dados, desdobrados em nove subetapas. No terceiro artigo, duas técnicas estatísticas, a Análise de Variância Multivariada (MANOVA) e Análise Fatorial Exploratória (AFE), foram empregadas para investigar a existência de diferenças nos níveis de satisfação do usuário com os aspectos de uso, além da extração de um menor número de fatores para explicar a satisfação geral do usuário. / Medical devices play a crucial role in chronic disease management, and are used by different users in different environments settings for the treatment of different diseases with different levels of severity. This dissertation aims at contributing to the capture, user perception of measurement and analysis regarding the use of the medical device. As secondary objectives, we have: (i) review the literature approaches and techniques for assessing the usability of medical devices in the user's perspective; (Ii) develop and illustrate through a case study of hemodialysis patients, a methodology for evaluating the usability of medical devices; and (iii) present an analysis procedure to evaluate the usability of medical devices in the hemodialysis patient's perspective, identifying context of use characteristics may affect this assessment. To achieve the research objectives, the dissertation consists of three articles that address each of the objectives mentioned above. In the first article were evaluated 42 studies in which five approaches have been most commonly used: interview, usability testing, cognitive route, observation and questionnaire. For the second and third articles, a case study of hemodialysis patients was conducted. Structured questionnaires were administered to patients in actual use environments, with questions about the perception of use (machine, process and environment). In the second article a methodology to assess user-centric medical device has been proposed. A detailed flow was generated, consisting of three stages: planning, field of study and analysis of the data, broken down into nine sub-steps. In the third article, two technical statistics, Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) and exploratory factor analysis (EFA) were employed to investigate the existence of differences in user satisfaction levels with aspects of use, and the extraction of a minor number of factors to explain the overall user satisfaction.

How has the question of Swedish neutrality been taught in the Swedish school during the 1950s, 1960s and 2000s? Neutrality is changeable and can be linked to shifts in history culture, conscious and contemporary perceptions during time. The material has been interpreted through the hermeneutics guidelines, which means that I have made the interpretation. At the beginning of the Second World War in 1939, the Swedish government declared the country neutral. Sweden was represented during the war by a collective government led by Per Albin Hansson and declared the country as "non-warring". The consequence of this was that Sweden was not drawn into any armed conflict. In our school books, the knowledge is conveyed that Sweden was not included in the Second World War. Between historians and within history science, it is continuously debated to what extent the Swedish government maintained and protected the neutrality. The essay will analyze and study material in which Sweden’s neutrality is portrayed and in what way the transit agreement is reported in the textbooks and how it differs. Differences in history consciousness will be investigated with the help of current research. Compared to previous research, this study provides a more complex understanding of neutrality changes in school textbooks. The analysis has concluded that the historiography appears different over time and that the ethical aspect is becoming increasingly apparent.

Vi har i denna kvalitativa studie med induktiv ansats genomfört två fallstudier med syfte attstudera skillnaderna mellan den funktionella eller formaliserade definitionen av controllern frånden praktiska och handlingsorienterade definitionen. Samtidigt studerade vi skillnaderna mellancontrollerns syn på sin egen roll och controllerns kollegors syn på dess roll. Analysen hargenomförts med hjälp av en teoretisk referensram som vi byggt upp utifrån två kategorier sompåverkar controllerns roll, interna samt externa faktorer. Det vi kommit fram till visar att detfinns tydliga skillnader mellan den funktionella eller formaliserade definitionen från denpraktiska och handlingsorienterade definitionen. Vidare resultat som framkommit genom vårstudie är att controllern idag närmar sig ledningen och de klassiska arbetsuppgifterna tas allt meröver av datorer och ekonomisystem, vilket är den största skillnaden som framkommit från denfunktionella definitionen som litteraturen ger oss. Ytterligare har vi kommit fram till att deinterna faktorerna påverkar controllerns roll i den mån som de externa faktorerna tillåter dem.Till sist kom vi även fram till att det finns skillnader mellan controllerns syn på sin egen roll ochderas kollegors syn på controllerns roll. Den största orsaken till denna skillnad anser vi är att allaindivider ser på saker ur olika perspektiv och ser därmed olika på olika situationer. Syftet medstudien är att belysa om skillnaderna i de två olika frågeställningarna finns. This paper is a qualitative study based on a phenomenological perspective. The purpose of the study has been to examine how the artistic work with a Community Theatre can visualize the beliefs held by young girls in Skellefteå today regarding the power structures that exist in their lives and how they affect them. Furthermore, the study aims to examine how the work of a theater can provide participants with the opportunity to visualize these structures of power to the public. Questions raised in the study concerns the power structures the young girls are experiencing in their daily lives, how they affect them, how to through a theater approach them in an artistic practice and how the participants' experience of existing power structures is influenced by the work of a theater. The study began with a focus conversation about the participants' view of power in different areas. Based on the conversation, we decided to revise and orchestrate a part of Shakespeare's Othello, focusing on jealousy and men's violence against women in intimate relationships. This was rehearsed and performed to an audience during Trästockfestivalen in Skellefteå. The study ended with a further focus conversation which concerned the work of the theater production and how it affected the participants' view of power. The results show that participants believe that it has been useful to work with the power structures in this way. In particular, they have appreciated the discussions and the opportunity of amateurs to work with the profession, and in this work get visibility to real-life, current issues for an audience.
