Modular approach to the development of a two-way radio receiver system

Kellerman, Valpre Cecilia 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MScIng)--University of Stellenbosch, 2004. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The preliminary development of a FM radio receiver module is discussed. An existing narrowband system operating between 48MHz and 50MHz will be replaced. Digital components were investigated, compared and used with analogue techniques to build a more flexible two-way radio receiver system. A direct digital synthesizer was considered as a replacement for the current synthesized phased lock loop local oscillator and much attention was given to the local oscillator and mixer design, characteristics and measurement procedures. A detailed study of receiver systems was undertaken to determine the specifications needed for every receiver component to achieve satisfactory receiver performance in the end. Receiver characteristics as well as receiver measurement procedures are defined. A software tool was developed to aid the design process, establishing computationally whether the receiver specifications are met prior to the final design. The complete design process, from fundamental specifications through to the developed final receiver module is discussed. A modular design approach was used to guarantee easy manufacturing, substitution and testing. This approach comprises the break-down of the receiver into well defined components that are each matched to 50O. The separate components of the system were designed, measured and characterized to make it possible to replace only a single component instead of the entire system when a part becomes redundant.

Bilderboksstunden i förskolan : Småflodhästarna och Kenta möter Piraten och Spenaten

Norlin, Per January 2013 (has links)
Uppsatsen Bilderboksstunden i förskolan undersöker potentialer i två välkända svenska bilderböcker under tretton videofilmade bilderboksstunder på två förskoleavdelningar i skilda kommuner.

D Markovic, Emma, Nilsson, Martin January 2016 (has links)
Title: “What is Swedishness for you?” *Long silence* – A reception study about what role film as a medium with the film “Sveriges bästa svensk” can play in discussions that consist of Swedishness and integration. Authors: Emma D Markovic and Martin Nilsson. Research problem: In terms of reception of film in order to generate discussions on a determined theme, we identified a gap in the research field of integration and Swedishness. Therefore this study fills a great space in this field. Aim & Research question: This study aims to add new research of the reception of film in relation to the concept of Swedishness. It’s written in the media and communication science field. The key question is: What role film as a medium with the film "Sveriges bästa svensk" as an example, can play to generate discussion and question the perception of Swedishness. Method/material: Qualitative focus group interviews were conducted with two groups consisting of people aged 50–80 years, where elders borned in Sweden and Iran were represented. Theoretical framework: Stuart Hall's theory of encoding/decoding which is enhanced by the following concepts: Swedishness, identity, ethnicity and cultural adjustment. Main results: It is shown that film plays an important role when it comes to generating discussion about Swedishness, but also that film as a medium is complex when it comes to reception and interpretation. In light of the theory it is clear that a majority of the participants have difficulties to relate to the film or even accept the story because of their preconceptions. It also proves to be difficult for all participants to point out what is typically Swedish, but during the discussions codes that distinguishes the Iranian culture from the Swedish are found, which helps them to more easily discern the things that are perceived as Swedish. Social importance: We want to contribute to the social debate about integration in contemporary Sweden. We found that film can be used to raise questions related to this subject. Number of pages: 40.

De Los Reyes Lozano, Julio 11 December 2015 (has links)
Audiovisual Translation is the main subject of study of this research, evaluating more particularly the reception of dubbing by a “special” audience of the analyzed corpus, the child. The subtitle of the work –end user perception– reveals its empirical and experimental nature, our main goal being to empirically analyze the reaction of young people to some of the translation’s choices regularly adopted in dubbing animated films. Certain translation strategies and techniques may be used to reach or repel the audience: we will try to examine how they help understanding, make laugh or cry, and ultimately entertain the child.Nowadays, the only way to know if a children film is successful is by checking theaters’ box office and DVD, Blu-ray and VOD sales. In order to fill this gap, we have decided to perform an experiment with children which include the screening of some film clips dubbed in Spanish. Then, they have completed a specific questionnaire adapted to their cognitive development, which helped us to determine the information learned by the experience’s through the film. We thus seek to better understand the impact of the translation’s choices frequently made by audiovisual translators of animated films for children.

Les seuils dans l’album de littérature de jeunesse : du péritexte à la métalepse / Tresholds in children's literature : from the peritext to the metalepsis

Allain-Le Forestier, Laurence 03 February 2014 (has links)
This thesis deals with the issue of children's literature as a means of artistic expression, at a crossroad between literature and visual art.The aim of this research is to describe the various forms that the peritext assumes and the functions assigned to it, within the literary genre of children's books.Because the peritext is a laboratory in writing, and as the children's book is a plurisemiotic object, the peritext, in its most innovative plastic and narratological research, is invested by authors and thus treated as a field of semantic creativity by them. Fiction crosses over thresholds while thresholds meddle with fiction. In a first part, a typology of peritextual usage applied to children's books is suggested, so as to examine the overlapping of thresholds from the textual fringe to the narrative, and vice versa, from the narrative to the textual fringe. In a second part, these overlaps, defined here as metalepsis, are examined. Two types of transgressions are at work, one that can be noticed in the iconotextual narrative of the book and another in its peritextual thresholds, thus redefining the very contours of the narrative itself. Finally, from a teaching perspective, the reception process among young readers, who receive these more or less canonical, if not deviating peritexts directly, is considered. How to use the peritextual elements in class out of common rituals is then pondered upon in order to be turned into heuristic entries in the reading process.

My history, finally invented : Djuna Barnes’s Nightwood and its readers

Wallace, Laura Knowles 19 December 2013 (has links)
In this report, I examine the reception of Djuna Barnes’s novel Nightwood (1936) from contemporary reviews in periodicals to twenty-first century online reviews. I am interested in how the novel has been situated in both historical and personal canons. I focus on how Nightwood has been read through the lenses of experimental modernism, lesbian feminism and postmodern queer theory, and how my own readings of it have changed over the years. / text
