Humanity's rejection of God, the creator, according to Romans 1:18-32Remezov, Anatoly 01 January 2002 (has links)
The author of dissertation considers that dependence of behavior of people on their attitude toward God the Creator is perhaps the first and the most important topic that comes to mind during the study of the present passage of the most fundamental Paul's epistle. We believe it is necessary to explore "false foundations" as we see as Paul opposes to them his ideology -
ideology of worship to God the Creator. We affirm that Paul sees the main reason of immoral behavior in such area of man's activity as thinking that, in its tum, denies the Creator of every living thing of Earth and because of its incapability to rule over human passions is forced to look for an ideological basis for its acts.
This thesis has also practical meaning because it demonstrates Paul's methodology of disproval of false theories of that time revealing their illogicality and senselessness. / Biblical and Ancient studies / M. Th (New Testament)

Predestination in scriptures and reformation traditions : towards deconstructing paradigms for soteriology in a proposed Cameroon Baptist theological treatiseKame, Greg Sako 05 1900 (has links)
In the wake of the 19th century, the protestant reformation in Europe that led to the formation of mainline reformation traditions began impacting and shaping ministry in Africa, through missionary activities. But the clarion call for Africa’s renaissance was also a wakeup call for the African church to move from being consumers of the ‘imported’ theology brewed from a European perspective and take some responsibility in producing her own theology, which can be viewed and understood with an African cultural lens. If Africa must achieve the much needed renaissance, the church certainly has an indispensable role to play. But how can there be a meaningful church praxis in African polities without a solid contextualized theological foundation? Therefore in this project, I justify the need for a biblio-centric African theology by making a case for the Cameroon Baptist Convention in the Republic of Cameroon.
I argue that, to be able to solidify its foundation and enhance its Christian theological praxis in the society, a Cameroon Baptist Theological Treatise is needed in the Cameroon Baptist Convention. One that would contain well delineated and defended theological tenets required of an independent Christian denomination in Africa. Central to the development of this treatise is the development of a soteriology with a cognitive theological understanding of divine predestination. To develop a correct soteriology for this purpose, a process is required, one that would need to use sound theological principles to ensure a biblically accurate and theologically sound doctrine of soteriology as the point of departure. As an evangelical systematic theological research, I attempt in this project to deconstruct biblical and theological paradigms from scriptures and reformation traditions, which the Cameroon Baptist Convention leaders could use as tools in the process of delineating and defending their own tenets on soteriology in the proposed theological treatise. It begins by gathering data from reformation traditions and scriptures on predestination and moves on to construct theories that would not only help the Cameroon Baptist Convention leaders to develop a soteriology but also be fundamental to developing other relevant doctrines needed in the proposed Cameroon Baptist Theological Treatise. / Philosophy and Systematic Theology / D. The role and position of women in Roman North African societyDe Marre, Martine Elizabeth Agnès 11 1900 (has links)
In this thesis I have endeavoured to throw light on both the private and public aspect of the lives of women living in the Roman African provinces from the first century BC to the seventh century AD. Funerary
inscriptions reveal that the role of women in private life was projected in a manner which reflected the ideals for Roman womanhood (pudicitia, castitas, fides and fecunditas), even when they clearly came of Afro-Punic stock. In terms of the quality of their lives Roman African women of the propertied status groups (about whom we know the most) had a good standard of living compared to other parts of the Roman Empire, and for example were well-educated in the urbanized areas compared to provinces such as Gaul. Roman African women of the elite also enjoyed a degree of autonomy enhanced by the increased financial independence granted to them in terms of Roman law, which enabled them to function as benefactors in their communities in the same way as their male counterparts, donating money for temples, baths and markets. In return for this they were duly
recognized in honorary inscriptions by their communities. Although this public role may appear to be in conflict with the 'ideal' domestic or private role of the Roman matron, this activity was sanctioned by the fact that they were acting in the interests of male family members who were engaged in municipal careers. In the 2nd and 3rd centuries there are a few signs that women were beginning to act more in their own interests, but much of their public role faded with the increasing dominance of the Christian Church which prescribed a more limited role for women. The only exceptions occurred in the times of persecution through the temporary prominence gained
by women as martyrs and confessors, although this prominence cannot be said to have advantaged women in general. During the Vandal and Byzantine period we know of only a few women, primarily those with connections to the elite at Rome and Constantinople, who acted with the independence and authority of their
class. / D.Litt. et Phil. (Ancient History / Ancient and Near Eastern Studies

The two Mauretaniae : their romanization and the imperial cultGironi, Claudia 11 1900 (has links)
The 'Romanization' of the African provinces of Mauretania Tingitana and
Mauretania Caesariensis was in fact a two-way process of exchange between
Roman and African elements which resulted in a uniquely Romano-African
civilization. The imperial cult highlights issues common to all Romanization
processes, such as ruler-subject interaction and the role of local initiative
in bringing about change, as well as unique issues such as the impact of
politics on emperor-worship. The success of the imperial cult was hampered
by the fact that only a select few - notably the wealthy local elite -
derived direct benefit from the process, and by the fact that, because the
pre-Roman Mauretaniae had no established ruler-cults, the imperial cult
failed to assimilate with local tradition. As a result, the cult was unable
either to make a decisive impact on the Romanization of the Mauretanians, or
to achieve any real religious unity among them. / History / M.A. (Ancient History)

The meaning of the expression having died to sin in Romans 6:1-14Mabelane, Kolena Solomon 11 1900 (has links)
The letter to the Romans conveys a message of God's love and
how through his grace, he has prepared a way to liberate
mankind from a life of sin to a life of righteousness. But
the way the message is presented, this grace may easily be
misunderstood as an encouragement for people to live in sin.
In Chapter 6:1-14, a concise but detailed outline of the
message of the epistle unfolds into two main sections,
namely, the Indicative and the Imperative. Key statements in
these sections are: 'How can we who have died to sin,
continue to live in it?' (6:2), and 'Consider yourselves dead
to sin and alive to God' (6:11). Failure to distinguish the
separate meanings of these statements may lead to the
conclusion that the pericope encourages libertinism.
In outlining the:meaning of this expression, 'We have died to
sin ... ', I hope to make a contribution for a better
understanding of the message of this pericope, namely: The
grace of God that enables believers to live a righteous / Biblical and Ancient Studies / M.A. (Theology)

This work consists of an analytical approach of the underlying theme of the text from Romans 1.26-27, in line with the prospects of significant assumptions made hermeneutical in the contemporary world. In developing this analysis, there is a meeting inevitable with the philosophical elements of language, which suggest new directions for the theories of interpretation, particularly with regard to complex issues that emerge from western societies. Contact tracks of hands, takes the view of interpretative Kevin Vanhoozer, which emphasizes the aspect, canon-language of Scripture, on the one hand; but points out, on the other hand, the relevance of the dialogical voices that reverberate in the interpretation of biblical texts. We seek to understand how the philosophy has contributed to the advancement of life issues - social and religious; as well as to know how to deal with new situations. In the face of a cultural setting ever more plural, homosexuality is an issue that raises challenging readings of the text of Romans 1.26-27 and, in this sense, the correlation between the Testaments of the Bible; the reality of the context of the author of Romans with the situations that present themselves today. Vanhoozer suggests that the biblical themes are included in the provisions of the teodrama, upon which the human condition can be better understood and clarified such dialogical. The aim is to establish a condition of world adjustments to the words, as the communicative action of the wording indicates the direction of a cycling in continuity with the Scriptures.

Recomposer l'ordre du monde impérial : romans sur l'histoire dynastique et discours néo-confucéens des années 1630 aux années 1730 / Recomposing the Imperial World : Novels about Dynastic History and Neo-confucian Discourses from the 1630s to the 1730sGardères, Paul 24 June 2017 (has links)
Corpus principal : Écrits oubliés des Sui (Suishi yiwen隨史遺文,préface 1633) ;Deuxième collection du Lac de l’ouest (Xihu erji 西湖二集, années 1640) ;Second bord de l’eau (Hou Shuihu zhuan後水滸傳,fin des Ming, début des Qing) ;Histoire exemplaire et vulgarisée du bûcheron (Qiaoshi tongsu yanyi樵史通俗演義, début desQing) ; Suite au bord de l’eau (Shuihu houzhuan水滸後傳,préface 1664) ; Histoire exemplaire des Sui et des Tang (Sui Tang yanyi隋唐演義, préface 1695) ;Histoire non-officielle des immortelles (Nüxian waishi女仙外史, préface 1711) ; Récit complet des Tang (Shuo Tang quanzhuan 說唐全傳, années 1730) / This dissertation deals with a set of novels about dynastic history written between the 1630sand the 1730s. My point of departure is the following : A) I study the way these novels structure representations of the imperial world – that is,representations of space, time, and social order that are organized in reference to the imperialinstitution.B) I reinsert these representations of the imperial world within contemporary ru (儒Neo-confucian) discourses. I do so by focusing on the way five notions or set of notions, thatare both central to ru discourses and to these novel are conceptualized and used : the twinnotions of guo (國 “imperial institution” / “country”) and tianxia (天下 “the world”) ; su (俗“vulgar”) and minjian (民間 “popular”); the notions of yanyi (演義 “development ofmeaning”, “exemplary narrative”); gong (公, “public”) ; and zhi (知 “moral recognition”). In doing so, this dissertation highlights a web of connections that were previouslyinvisible between novelistic representations of the imperial world and a set of evolutions withinthe ru world that are contemporary to the writing of these novels.Main primary sources : Forgotten Tales of the Sui (Suishi yiwen 隨史遺文,preface 1633) ; Second West Lake Collection (Xihu erji 西湖二集, ca1640) ; Second Water Margins (Hou shuihu zhuan後水滸傳 late Ming- early Qing ) ; Exemplary and Popularized History of the Woodcutter (Qiaoshi tongsu yanyi樵史通俗演義,early Qing) ; A sequel to the Water Margins, (Shuihu houzhuan水滸後傳,preface 1664) ; Exemplary History of the Sui and Tang ( Sui Tang yanyi 隋唐演義, preface 1695) ; Non-Official History of the Female Immortals (Nüxian waishi女仙外史, preface 1711) ; Complete History of the Tang (Shuo Tang quanzhuan說唐全傳, ca 1730)

Saint Augustin d’Hippone, Epistulae ad Romanos Inchoata Expositio (Début de commentaire de l’épître aux Romains) : édition, traduction et commentaire / St. Augustine of Hippo, Epistulae ad Romanos Inchoata Expositio (Beginning of a Commentary on the Epistle to the Romans) : edition, translation and commentary.Hadas, Daniel 17 January 2015 (has links)
Between AD 394 and 396, St. Augustine of Hippo undertook the project of writing a commentary on St. Paul’s Epistle to the Romans. He completed only one book of this, providing a commentary on first seven verses of the epistle, along with an examination of the question of the unforgivable blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. I present this text here. My thesis begins with a general introduction, which situates the work in its historical and theological context, and discusses its reception. I then provide a critical edition (with French translation) of the text: the edition, based on 25 manuscripts and 5 printed editions, is preceded by detailed presentation of sources, a stemma with supporting arguments, and a commentary on editorial decisions. Finally, I provide a detailed commentary on the whole work, whose main aims are to elucidate the text’s difficult passages, to note its linguistic particularities, and to explain its contents with reference to the Augustinian corpus and patristic tradition.
