Shiny Things : Decoration as tool and function whilst revaluating notions of good and bad tasteBerner Wik, Tove January 2019 (has links)
This work is an investigation of how to redefine the perception of decoration. Decorative elements are reinvented as fundamental tools for creating garments and form in a collection of nine outfits. To show the width of what embellishment is able to create, the decorative techniques of all garments are different. The work also deals with the question of taste when it comes to embellishment. By using decorations seen as tasteless the work revaluates notions of good and bad taste. Materials as sport fabric combined with embellishment trick the eye and all small decorations together form new materials. New ways to use embellishments are explored, and the time consuming techniques are reminiscent of haute couture techniques, but in the designer’s own way.

[pt] Nelson Rodrigues, por diversas vezes, se pronunciou
favorável à restauração do mau gosto na obra de arte,
fazendo com que críticos, jornalistas, e por conseqüência, a
opinião pública em geral, o vissem enquanto fruidor do
Kitsch. Porém, na medida em que invadimos a sua obra, onde
destacamos a leitura do romance - O casamento -,percebemos
que Nelson se apropria das faculdades do Kitsch de uma
forma muito particular, para não dizê-lo especial. Colocar
em exposição os princípios que regem tal operação -
kitschizante - é o nosso objetivo. / [en] Nelson Rodrigues, in many ocasions, pronounced himself
favorable to the restoration of bad taste in the work of
art, leading critics, journalists and, consequently, the
public opinion in general, to seing himself as partaking in
the Kitsch movement. Nevertheless, as we invade his work,
in which highlight the reading of the romance

qualities of Kitsch in a very particular fashion, not to

Dirty Geometry : Searching for a queer architecture in Stockholm city / Dirty Geometry : Sökandet efter en queer arkitektur i Stockholm citySöderman, Viktoria January 2018 (has links)
For whom do we draw buildings? Why does contemporary architecture look the way it does?Why are certain aesthetics considered more valid than others? With this project, I propose Dirty Geometry: norm-bending design that could challenge conventions within the field of architecture. It is an investigation of concepts such as ugliness, beauty, architecture and the human body, interiority, femininity and ”bad taste”. The purpose is to, with the aid of parametric design processes, make Stockholm less boring and more dirty. Dirty Geometry is both the creative process sprung from one’s personal desires, and the resulting design. It aims to celebrate the weird, playful and colorful in an empowering way. This thesis project draws a lot of inspiration from camp aesthetics and drag culture, because of the way humour is used in a subversive way to question gender identities, power structures and norms.
