A influência do discurso médico no poder punitivo / The influence of medical speech in the punitive power

Ricardo Tadeu Penitente Genelhú 17 November 2010 (has links)
This dissertation discusses the relationship between the medicine, the psychiatry, the punitive power and the Penal Law, as well the influence that the ones speech produces in the other, and vice versa. Argues the idea that the medicine is an spectacule of power that, with the punitive power, and interacting with it, and above, the individual, invades and apropriates of their body for, using it as instrument of political domination, disciplin it according with the convenience, mainly, of the hygiene and, in that spurious relationship with the punitive power, diferenciating and controlling it social and criminally. Maintains, even, that, despite the union not have been intentional, the State saw in medicine an instrument to enforce its own power, while medicine saw in State the suport for its propagation, despite Medicine and State have converged, but also diverged, sometimes, tactically and strategically, because not allways the both powers recognized the value of the alliance that they have just established. So, defends the thesis that the State accepted the medicalization of its public actions and admitted the political value of the medicine actions, and with the advantage for both that, sharing the power, they won. It means that, the medicine, more fast and more appropriate to the relevant problems presented, helped the State to interfere in the body, insofar the State, with its hegemonical power, opened gaps into its own body to the remaining parasitic of the other onte. And, for keeping its right of speech, argues that the medicine reinvented frequentlly a necessity for present itself as the only solution, getting it by the presentation of one dominial eloquent rhetoric, but, mainlly, technified, or, inaccessible to the dominated. With it, the discipline, the control and the repression of the individual, penal and medically, were ready, because, Law and Medicine, that one with legislation, and this one with drugs, together, dominated and still dominate the destinys of the individual, and collectivity. Demonstrate, more, that the hygienists never stopped their functions. And, finally, the penal principles must, independently of the given qualification, allways stops the punitive power.

Probabilistic Finite Element Analysis and Design Optimization for Structural Designs

January 2012 (has links)
abstract: This study focuses on implementing probabilistic nature of material properties (Kevlar® 49) to the existing deterministic finite element analysis (FEA) of fabric based engine containment system through Monte Carlo simulations (MCS) and implementation of probabilistic analysis in engineering designs through Reliability Based Design Optimization (RBDO). First, the emphasis is on experimental data analysis focusing on probabilistic distribution models which characterize the randomness associated with the experimental data. The material properties of Kevlar® 49 are modeled using experimental data analysis and implemented along with an existing spiral modeling scheme (SMS) and user defined constitutive model (UMAT) for fabric based engine containment simulations in LS-DYNA. MCS of the model are performed to observe the failure pattern and exit velocities of the models. Then the solutions are compared with NASA experimental tests and deterministic results. MCS with probabilistic material data give a good prospective on results rather than a single deterministic simulation results. The next part of research is to implement the probabilistic material properties in engineering designs. The main aim of structural design is to obtain optimal solutions. In any case, in a deterministic optimization problem even though the structures are cost effective, it becomes highly unreliable if the uncertainty that may be associated with the system (material properties, loading etc.) is not represented or considered in the solution process. Reliable and optimal solution can be obtained by performing reliability optimization along with the deterministic optimization, which is RBDO. In RBDO problem formulation, in addition to structural performance constraints, reliability constraints are also considered. This part of research starts with introduction to reliability analysis such as first order reliability analysis, second order reliability analysis followed by simulation technique that are performed to obtain probability of failure and reliability of structures. Next, decoupled RBDO procedure is proposed with a new reliability analysis formulation with sensitivity analysis, which is performed to remove the highly reliable constraints in the RBDO, thereby reducing the computational time and function evaluations. Followed by implementation of the reliability analysis concepts and RBDO in finite element 2D truss problems and a planar beam problem are presented and discussed. / Dissertation/Thesis / M.S. / The following research aims to understand the structural factors of territorial dynamics of the Dadaab refugee camp in Kenya. Formed in 1991 by the forced migration of the Somali people, because of the outbreak of civil war in their country, this refugee camp, today, houses 348,000 people of different nationalities and forced displacement contexts. The scale of this phenomenon is not only perceived to be the largest refugee camp in the world, but by complexity of factors involved in their formation. Its origin is related here, from the forced migration process. The suspension of their lives, that to overcome the political borders of their countries, they become refugees, refers not only to the loss of political rights, or their citizenship, but a suspension of "senses" and continuity occasioned by their territorial containment in this refugee camp. Your journey or movement, seeking temporary refuge, is paralyzed and transformed in waiting and containment. The Dadaab refugee camp, formed in a context of "emergency", turned into a territory of exception, through an informal practice of territorial containment adopted by the Kenyan government. The persistence of their lives in this camp, among many bans, developed a process of precarious reterritorialization, but confronted by resistance, contours and permeated by transterritorialities and encounters.

Variations in the primary control availability : An investigation of market conditions’ influence on the FCR-N product

Mann, Johan, Dahlin, Kasper January 2015 (has links)
The systematic implementation of intermittent energy production sources has made the energy system more volatile and unpredictable than ever before. This development increases the importance of balancing services, in particular the primary control. However, the current research that has been conducted on the primary regulation products is limited. Specifically, the factors that drive the variation in availability and price of the primary control are unknown and the procurement is in some aspects based on perception rather than quantitative analysis. This study has investigated which these factors are and their relative significance on the availability and price of the primary control product called Frequency Containment Reserve for Normal Operation – FCR-N. The study was conducted according to methods with both qualitative and quantitative aspects to cover the complex nature of the problem from different views. The study was done in collaboration with Fortum POT at their office to gain insight and support from a market actor. Given the research questions, the result from this study is threefold. Firstly, the factors that affect the FCR-N availability have been identified and other factors have been categorised as insignificant. Secondly, the factors’ relative significances are stated to show their dependency with the FCR-N product. Lastly, an outlier case study showed how extreme situations changes the conditions for the FCR-N procurement. It has been concluded that the FCR-N price for normal operation on the Nordic electricity market can be generalised successfully through the identified parameters. It is also shown that deviations from normal operations have the possibility to create deviations in the FCR-N availability, indicating that these hours of extreme values need additional analysis in order to fully understand the available capacity. However, the significance of the researched parameters will be an indication in analysis of both the normal case and during deviations as these are the most important measures for the FCR-N availability and price.

Temperature induced stresses in a reactor containment building : A case study of Forsmark F1 / Temperaturinducerade spänningar i en reaktorinneslutning : En fallstudie av Forsmark F1

Könönen, Mattias January 2012 (has links)
The aims of this thesis were to study two aspects of temperature induced stresses with reference to the nuclear power plant Forsmark F1. One aspect included the thermal cooling effect of the ventilated tendon ducts in the cylinder wall. It was of interest to study if the thermal cooling effect of the ventilated tendon ducts had a positive global effect which was relevant to consider in global three-dimensional models. The other aspect included the influence of embedded steel in the upper ring slab. With the purpose to study if embedded steel was an aspect that was considered necessary to include in transient analyses.   The used main analysis tool was the finite element method (FEM), through the use of the commercially available finite element program SOLVIA.   The influence of the thermal cooling effect of the ventilated tendon ducts indicated a stress reducing effect, with reduced cracked concrete in the cylinder wall at elevated temperatures. The influence of embedded steel indicated increased temperature differences between the embedded steel and the surrounding concrete, with cracked concrete locally between the steel and the concrete at elevated temperatures. The thermal cooling effect of the ventilated tendon ducts was considered relevant to consider in global three-dimensional models. Embedded steel was considered necessary to include in transient analyses.

Investigation of Frequency Containment Reserves With Inertial Response and Batteries

Ghasemi, Hashem, Melki, Jakob January 2019 (has links)
The rise of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) such as wind and solar power, creates new challenges for electric power systems. One of these challenges occur in Frequency Containment Reserves (FCR) on power system because of decreasing system inertia from RES. The purpose of FCR is to regulate the system frequency after a disturbance that gives rise to a Rate of Change of Frequency (RoCoF) and an Instantaneous Frequency Deviation (IFD). Conventional electricity production such as hydro and nuclear power have a contribution for the amount of inertia in the system, while RES lack this contribution of inertia. This paper studies different cases of amount of inertia to understand the impact of lower amount of inertia caused by RES on power system. A power system was simulated and the IFD and SteadyState Frequency Deviation (SSFD) of the system were examined as the nuclear powers were substituted by wind powers. The results showed that a large amount of inertia implies a small IFD and vice versa.Furthermore, this paper also studies Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) as a power support for FCR when using RES. The conclusion for the impact of the battery was to use high injected power and triggering frequency level (TLF) and vice versa to get an acceptable IFD. In other words, this means that it is possible to keep the IFD within predefined limits by using batteries and identify the appropriate range of battery control settings.
