Investigation of High-Input-Voltage Non-Isolated Voltage Regulator Modules Topology Candidates

Wei, Jia 05 June 2002 (has links)
Since the early 80s, the computer industry has undergone great expansion. Processors are becoming faster and more powerful. Power management issues in computing systems are becoming more complex and challenging. An evolution began when the high-performance Pentium processor was driven by a non-standard, less-than-5V power supply, instead of drawing its power from the 5V plane on the system board. A so-called Voltage Regulator Module (VRM), is put close to the processor in order to provide the power as quickly as possible. Nowadays, for desktop and workstation applications, VRM input voltage has moved to the 12V output of the silver box. In the meantime, microprocessors will run at very low voltage (below 1V), will consume up to 100A of current, and will have dynamics of about 400A/us. This work presents an investigation of three 12V VRM topologies: the synchronous buck converter, the tapped-inductor buck converter and the active-clamp couple-buck converter. The limitations of today¡¯s synchronous buck approach are identified. The extreme duty cycle of the current topology makes it difficult to design an efficient VRM with decent transient response. The tapped-inductor buck and the active-clamp couple-buck converters are discussed as solutions. The transient response and efficiency of each type of converter are compared. Ripple cancellation is also addressed. The analytical and experimental results are presented: The tapped-inductor buck can improve the efficiency, but suffers a voltage spike, which nullifies its candidacy; the active-clamp couple-buck converter can improve the efficiency while maintaining good transient response, and it is therefore a good candidate for 12V VRMs. / Master of Science

Les constructions des stratégies conjugales et familiales des couples franco-brésiliens / The constructions of the conjugal and family strategies of the french-brazilian couples

Dos Santos Silva, Marta 06 April 2012 (has links)
The French-Brazilian couple (composed of a French man and a Brazilian woman) is an example of the necessity of the strategic constructions of the married and family life according to the contemporary norms of marriage. The model of the transplantation of the Brazilian woman in France is one way of explaining the process of conjugal and family socialization of this couple. Conjugality is studied according to an ideal-typical approach with the issue of stereotypes at the center of the object of study. Geographical and cultural factors of the Brazilian woman are taken into consideration. Cultural distance, which is at the foundation of this type of conjugal mixity, allows us to analyze the negotiation that takes place between the French man and the Brazilian woman, to reach conjugal and family fulfillment, according to the established norms.

Couple et Famille : Étude comparative des systèmes juridiques français et marocain / Couple and Family : Comparative study of french and moroccan legal systems

Sfendla, Dyaa 20 May 2016 (has links)
The consecration of the legal notion of couple by the law of November 15th, 1999 allowed the recognition of new forms of conjugality within the Civil code. To the legitimate family formerly valued by the Napoleonic code succeeds a family constituted by a couple, married or not, by a different or same-sex sex. If the recognition of the autonomy of the notion ofcouple emanated from a will of adaptation of the law to the facts and the new values of the society, the recognition by the legislator in 2013 of the marriage between same-sex people attest of an ongoing process of dematrimonialization of the family law. It seemed useful to put in perspective the evolution which knew the French law on the subject. In this respect, the compared approach reveals the contradictions and the assets of the conceptions renewed of the couple and the family.Especially, she allows to open on another way of conceiving the family relationships, particularly within the Moroccan legal system which knows number of social transformations. The attention had too much concerned the differencesbetween the western legal systems and the systems of Islamic inspiration in family subject, without being interested in their underlying causes. Such an attitude takes away from the comparative approach and encourages a one-way reception of a legal system by the other one. The choice of Morocco as country of comparison is not fortuitous. The latter proceeded in 2004 to the reform of the family law by paying a particular attention on the requirement of equality. All the challenge for the legislator is to set with the modernity by adapting the right to the evolutions of the society, in the respect for the foundation of the political and social system: the Islam. The study of the rights of the family of both legal systems has not for object their rapprochement, because the answers brought to the family question are not the same. However, the individual remains at the heart of the reflexion, and the rule of law is called to assure its classic function of organization of the society. It is more a question, in this work, of building a bridge to favor a communicability betweentwo different legal systems.

Petit, Sylvie 03 December 2009 (has links)
Recent research consistently indicates that age is a major risk factor for cancer (Tubiana, 2002). Such is the case of prostate cancer, which is typically detected between the ages of 60 and 90 (average age of detection: 73 years). Coping with the physical effects of cancer is not the only challenge for elderly patients; cancer may also affect patient’s emotional and social lives as well. The current study presents results of an experience sampling study on the psychological impact of prostate cancer on the daily lives of elderly patients and their wives. We present data on 96 patients with prostate cancer and their spouse who were recruited from two Regional Center for the Fight Against Cancer in Bordeaux, France. Participants completed 3 daily assessments for 4 days (at the beginning of treatment, in the middle of treatment and at the end of treatment). The methodology has a number of advantages, including that it allows us to establish the relationship between variables (coping, quality of life, anxiety and depression), between subjects, and within the couple. The methodology also allows us to observe and compare the adjustment of patients and their partner following different ages (Swendsen, 1997, Czikszentmihalyi, 1984). Our results schowing three key points: First, we distinguiging the differences of feeling and coping strategies by spouses’age. The second point concern the concept of interindividual. This study discriminate behavior and emotions in everyday life of couples. The third important point concerns time management. There is an increased in feeling and psychosocial adjustement on the treatment. This study will help us to refine our knowledge and understanding of emotional adjustment and quality of life of patients with prostate cancer and their spouses. We will thus be able to realize the importance of taking into account the couple and not just patients in psychological interventions. This research is being funded by the National League for the Fight against Cancer, France.

Les parcours homosexuels et les styles de conjugalité chez les lesbiennes vivant en couple / Homosexual pathways and conjugality styles among lesbians living in couples

Costechareire, Celine 15 January 2018 (has links)
This doctoral research is devoted to female homosexuality and focuses on the ways in which it can be lived/experienced from one social milieu/background to another. Currently, in France, there are few studies focusing on female homosexuality. At the crossroads of the sociology of homosexuality and the sociology of the family, this research is thus exploring a topic yet little known in sociology. Furthermore, the originality of this research lies in its approach as it apprehends the experience of homosexuality in terms of/from the standpoint of/from the perspective of social belonging. This research breaks down in two stages. The first part focuses on the plurality of homosexual livelihoods observed amongst lesbians which, at the individual level, punctuates a "homosexual journey". The journey is understood as a process through which the individual will discover and experience her sexual preferences, then build and position herself with regard to homosexuality. It comes in sequential processes leading to the affirmation of homosexual orientations. In this respect, the analyzes will reveal how important it is to understand the role played by homosexuality in self-discovery, conjugality and sociability during this journey and the emergence of sexual preferences. Evolving over time, this role appears to be closely correlated with the propensity to stigmatize and the internalizing of the stigma, two elements that vary from one social milieu to another.Furthermore, this doctoral thesis enquires the connections between a) the different homosexual pathways and the different styles of conjugality; b) the ways in which homosexuality is lived and the ways of "being a couple". The analysis aims at identifying the different stages of the path leading to conjugal stability and to point out, the interdependence between conjugality and homosexual pathways. It appears important to understand the ways to make a couple and ways of living homosexuality in the same dynamic. Otherwise, conjugality is partially studied through its material dimension. By looking at cohabiting lesbian couples, the observation dwells on the plurality of forms of conjugality that are built in the habitat. The investigations focus on the contemporary forms of conjugality and the role that each partner plays in the development of their relationship. Nowadays, a shift of focus from the forms of traditional conjugality - indeed varying from one social milieu to another - encourages the partners to invent their relationship and take an active part in the construction of their union. Research is rooted in the novelty of these observed phenomena.

Étude anthropo-systémique des conditions de maintien à domicile : dans le cas d'une maladie d'Alzheimer ou maladie apparentée / Anthropo-systemic study of home care conditions : in the case of Alzheimer’s disease or related disease

Caire, Jean-Michel 30 November 2015 (has links)
Today, Alzheimer's disease is one of the worst health problem in the world (World health Organisation, 2014). It is a degenerative disease which has consequences, not only on the person, but also on the family surrounding. In France, public authorities have taken in consideration these facts and prioritized services for family caregivers, for example Alzheimer plans of action. However, if the home support services seem a necessity for the couple caregiver/care-receiver, the need for support appears to be underestimated. To study the life conditions of persons with Alzheimer disease and their surrounding, four types of methodologies were used.First, a text analysis revealed that the political context in France favors home stay for people with Alzheimer disease. Then, a review of scientific texts pointed out some characteristics of caregivers’ acceptance of proposed support services. After that, a reflection on therapeutic ethics in occupational therapy pinpointed 10 specific items for a family approach to Alzheimer disease. The second methodology was a survey using the Delphi technique with 26 experts. This investigation revealed 22 conditions necessary for homecare. The third methodology used a questionnaire with 128 caregivers in the Gironde area to document the use of support services related to homecare. Statistical analysis identified five types of caregivers and the way that these persons use professional aids. Finally, the fourth methodology was life stories. Seven interviews were conducted with couples having one member with Alzheimer disease. The analysis contributes to specify the reasons related to better living at home. These findings bring a better understanding of factors that influence the decision to stay or not at home. They allow us to consider an intervention model based on the couple’s life story and the way they live. This helps us to maximise freedom of decision for life orientation.

Le couple et la tentation triangulaire dans la littérature européenne du XXe siècle (1929-1967) / The couple and the triangular temptation in 20th century european literature (1929 to 1967)

Mijea, Camelia-Meda 15 May 2012 (has links)
This thesis deals with the existential evolution of the couple and of the love triangle in three countries (France, Belgium, Italy) of the Europe of 1929-1967, the being the following: "La femme partagée" [One woman, two love affairs] by Franz Hellens, "L’Invitée" [She came to stay] and "La femme rompue" [The woman distroyed] by Simone de Beauvoir, "Jules et Jim" [Jules and Jim] by Henri-Pierre Roché şi "L’Ennui" [The Empty Canvas] by Alberto Moravia. These texts propose a similar analysis of the love theme, which is characterized by the affective separation and the experience of a love triangle. Besides the fact that the love affairs are always complex despite the historical, economical and social conditions of the characters, the corpus contains texts in the middle of which there are couples from different geographical and cultural surroundings. The aim of this research is that of identifying, in the framework of three cultures (French, Belgium, Italian), the similar existential patterns, regarding the love relationships which ignore the cannons and acknowledge the experience of breaking out. Our reading is focused on observing the way in which the characters involved in an inextricable sentimental story deal with their situation. In our opinion, the way in which the thematic network of thirdiness is treated represents the leading thread of the corpus; a similar view of the love story, from euphoria to failure, is presented by the four authors. The great questions around which this thesis is centered are the following: the structure of the couple, the triangular relationship viewed as an attempt of salvation and the failure of both relationship and couple. The ultimate aim of the present study is the thematic approach of binary and triangular relationships. On a whole, our working hypothesis favours the following on a psychological, social and lexical plan the carrying out of the love affairs in the texts that constitute the corpus.

O casal homoafetivo e a conjugalidade: um estudo sobre pesquisas realizadas / The homoafetivo couple and the conjugality: a study of research conducted

No. of bitstreams: 1 Eliana Sandra Rosito.pdf: 14905985 bytes, checksum: 0b16d2800fd14892825c7c6b36240b49 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2013-10-25 / This study was conducted in order toverify, through specific researchconducted at the Pontifical Catholic University - PUC University and SãoPaulo - USP, as people of the same sex , deal with the emotions in a marriage relationship. Method; systematic review of the literature with 11 papers, 01Doctoral Thesis and Dissertations 07 and 03 of the PUC Dissertations USP. The reading was based on the phenomenological approach, makingeven more possible, the approach of the researchers and their various points of view, and the experience of each partnerin the relationship with himself, withothers and with the world. After analyzing all the data, I concludedthat the construction of the homoafetiva relationship, starts from the homosexuality selfdiscovery, ie, with the acceptance of a homosexualorientation itself. In general, the couplesmeet each other through the internet, friends or places, which are frequented by the public GLBTS (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Supporters). In most cases, the dating and decision of living together, occurs in a short time. The main reason is the lack of space and / or privacy, in order to live the relationship experience. With regards to the division of domestic roles and responsabilities , was noticed that, there is a consensus between the couple, in according to the preference of each one, ie, there is no definition of "roles or responsabilities" related to male and/orfemale. Also, was identified that, onde they are living together, conflicts arises, regarding the acceptance of the families of each one and, even in cases where the conflict is solved, the distance between the family and the couple remains, especially for not recognizing or notlegitimize the union between the couple. With regards the social and professional environment, most couples reported that, although they have a good acceptance among friends, in the workplace, theyavoid talking about their (its) partners (a), fearing about their job. Based on the exposed, the construction of homoafetiva marital relationship is possible and, is structured on: respect, complicity, division of tasks equally, network support and balance, since, beingpairs formed by two people of the same sex, they have higher complicity. During the studies, it was noted that, some issues are still not addressed, such as: jealousy, fidelity, the vision of each one with regards to the "marriage" and, how they will to experience this new family configuration . Even discussed atlower levels, these issues are as important as the other widely presented in this study.

Interpolation of Subcouples, New Results and Applications

Sunehag, Peter January 2003 (has links)
<p>Suppose that <b>X</b> and <b>Y</b> are Banach couples and suppose that there is a bounded linear couple map Q from <b>Y</b> to <b>X</b> which has the property that Q restricted to the endpoint spaces is injective and the images of the endpointspaces of <b>Y</b> are closed in the endpoint spaces of <b>X</b>, then we say that <b>Y</b> is a subcouple of <b>X.</b> </p><p>If F is an interpolation functor we want to know how F(<b>Y</b>) is related to F(<b>X</b>). In particular we want to know for which F it holds that Q is an injection that maps F(<b>Y</b>) onto a closed subspace of F(<b>X</b>). In recent years interest has been paid to subcouples of finite codimension and in particular to subcouples of codimension one. We will in this thesis present an interpolation theory for subcouples of codimension one and then generalize it to finite codimension. Our theory will include both a larger class of couples and a larger class of interpolation functors than earlier results.</p><p>The interpolation method that will be considered is the regular real method. Our general theory will imply older results by Kalton, Ivanov and Löfström. We will use the theory to answer questions about Hardy-type inequalities that were raised by Krugljak, Maligranda and Persson in 1999 and our new theory will also answer a question concerning interpolation of Banach algebras.</p>

Interpolation of Subcouples, New Results and Applications

Suppose that <b>X</b> and <b>Y</b> are Banach couples and suppose that there is a bounded linear couple map Q from <b>Y</b> to <b>X</b> which has the property that Q restricted to the endpoint spaces is injective and the images of the endpointspaces of <b>Y</b> are closed in the endpoint spaces of <b>X</b>, then we say that <b>Y</b> is a subcouple of <b>X.</b> If F is an interpolation functor we want to know how F(<b>Y</b>) is related to F(<b>X</b>). Our theory will include both a larger class of couples and a larger class of interpolation functors than earlier results. The interpolation method that will be considered is the regular real method. Our general theory will imply older results by Kalton, Ivanov and Löfström. We will use the theory to answer questions about Hardy-type inequalities that were raised by Krugljak, Maligranda and Persson in 1999 and our new theory will also answer a question concerning interpolation of Banach algebras.
