The present work aims to analyze new teaching possibilities for mother tongue through textual genders anchored in the methodological proposal of Gender Didactic Project (GDP) and reflect about them. Through action research, as definitions of Pepper (2005) and Wells (2009), in which the teacher assumes the researcher role, it was developed the methodological basis adopted for this research and for generation of the presented data. The studying focus of this research is divided in two moments. First, it focuses on analyzing how, from the news gender textual, the language capabilities of school failure students from the Project Moving Forward, final grades, from a public elementary school, RS, can be activated by means of activities proposed in the GDP "Profession Reporter in the Community", developed and applied by the teacher/researcher. And second, after application of the project, it is analyzed how the language capabilities were effectively actuated during the production process of the news gender of texts (initial production, final production and rewriting) of the same student, evidencing the relationship between the proposed GDP and the student’s language capabilities during the project development. Furthermore, this research also points out the digital literacy’s (social networks use) importance for teaching the mother tongue. As a theoretical anchor, in some principles of the Socio-Discursive Interactionism (SDI) from Bronckart and the textual genders study through didactic sequences, with studies from Schneuwly and Dolz. As well as the methodological proposal of Gender Didactic Project (GDP), defended by Guimarães and Kersch (2012), the literacy’s studies importance (STREET, 2010; BARTON, HAMILTON, 1998; KLEIMAN 2005/2007) and the relevance of digital literacy’s studies (Buzatto, 2009; ROJO, 2012; SOARES 2002; XAVIER, 2009;). All these theoretical constructs underlie this research to point new paths for the Mother Tongue’s teaching. The results show that the proposed Gender Didactic Project developed with school failure students students, leads the teacher to develop activities that explore the gender (news) as an object of education linked to a social practice of learners, promoting significantly the mobilization of language skills of these students.

Pescador, Cristina Maria January 2016 (has links)
This study maps the process of digital inclusion of a rural school, in a mixed-grade classroom system, located in the countryside in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, and which has been included under the Programa Nacional de Educação no Campo (Pronacampo) in 2013. The research aims to answer the question “What movements towards digital literacy and digital emancipation can be observed, identified or verified in a rural community from the introduction of 1:1 laptops in a rural school?” The study aims to observe, follow, plot, and understand of those movements and then check whether there are any changes indicating actions of digital literacy in this school. Considering the purpose of following an ongoing process, Deleuze and Guattari’s cartography was chosen as an inspiration for the research method, since it allows producing and building research data as classroom observations, interviews with the students and the teachers, and journal records are carried out. In this journey, while she plots maps of her remarks and perceptions regarding the actors in the research, the researcher becomes herself one of the actors of the process too. Data production and analysis follow five tracks: (1) how attention functions in the researcher’s work; (2) plotting is following processes; (3) plotting is inhabiting the existential territory; (4) for a narrating policy and records in a journal; and (5) handling an interview as per cartography and the experience of what is said. By observing and registering movements that were observed allow to outline a few changes in that routine and in the school practices providing analysis material for the changes that point to situations of digital literacy and digital emancipation situations that go beyond the limits of the classroom and the school. The analysis is carried out considering concepts of autonomy, interaction and solidarity, cooperation and mutual respect, empowerment and emancipation, digital culture, digital literacy and digital emancipation. Although digital inclusion is one of the goals set by Pronacampo, the movements identified in the study and that effectively indicate some digital inclusion and literacy are actually provoked by the community’s commitment and engagement in trying to find solutions for problems related to connectivity and maintenance of the equipment. Among these movements, there is the initiative of having internet access at some of the students’ homes as an alternative for the limiting conditions to capturing internet signal due to school’s location. It is also possible to identify some movements towards digital literacy, which seem to be anchored on teachers’ provoking situations so that the children can explore resources and possibilities available in the use of the laptops. Even though there was no internet connection at school, some students spontaneously become the providers of digital content, and this is welcomed and valued by their teachers. This is interpreted as a movement towards allowing these children to exercise their protagonism in the search of solutions and alternatives for the problems they had to face. With the school recently having hired a private service of wide band connection, it might be possible to think those new movements toward digital literacy and – who knows – digital emancipation may take place in the future.

Computador: a máquina do conhecimento na escola. / Computer: the knowledge machine at school.

José Antonio dos Santos 28 May 2007 (has links)
This paper discusses the roles and the importance of a computer-based education in the school environment and its multiple use in effective learning activities. This analysis was based on two ethnographic field researches conducted at two schools belonging to the São Paulo City Public Education network, an elementary school and a junior high school. The qualitative data that comprise the foundation of the analysis and the research derive from watching activities in the schools informatics laboratories, interviews with students, advisers, education supervisors and educational informatics tutors. As epistemological premise, one should conceive the idea of the computer as a machine that drives to one\'s intelligence based on logical principles from the Boolean algebras. Based on discussions about the virtuality, the computer is deemed as a system representing the real world, which has the logical judgment in common with the language. This common aspect of the real world and language is underpinned by Wittgenstein. The main conclusion of this paper is the confirmation that, in a learning condition, the computer excels the conception of being a teaching machine as students develop skills further from those of learning how to use the computer, they take hold of a representation system, which constitutes a digital literacy process.

The main objective of the study was to investigate the distance tutors, from the point of view of the rules and of the tasks proposal in the capacity building course, focusing on digital practices of reading and writing. For theory support, the study was based on the activity theory (ENGESTRÖM, 1987; 1999) order to identify and analyze the rules of the training. On the same direction, the study was also based on literacy concepts (BAYNHAM, 1995; SOARES, 1999, 2003, 2008; ROJO, 2009) and language (FAIRCLOUGH, 1990). The research guide questions were the following: 1) what rules is the tutor s training activity governed by? 2) what relations are there between institutional rules and the ones from the tutor s training activity? 3) what is the nature and goal of reading and writing practices presented in the tutor s training activity? I aimed to answer these questions from collected data in two subjects studied by students-tutors in the training activity. The methodological paradigm was the qualitative continuum based on interpretative (HALLOWAY, 1997) upon digital context (BRAGA, 2006), analyzing the tasks, discussion forum and messages performed by the participants in the virtual learning environment Moodle. The result analysis and discussion showed how the rules from the tutor s training activity impact the development of the course and how digital practices of reading and writing of the students-tutors tasks guided them more to a literacy perspective than a digital literacy one. The results suggest that this type of tutor s training provide essential and functional knowledge about the virtual environment but can hardly provide the development of digital literacy based on a critical reflection about the topics studied / A presente pesquisa, situada no cenário de educação e tecnologia, com foco na formação dos atores da EaD, buscou investigar a formação de tutores a distância no curso de capacitação desenvolvido pela equipe multidisciplinar do Centro de Educação a Distância - CEAD - do Instituto Federal do Espírito Santo Ifes.

This work aims to identify how students from a 6th grade class at a public school in Novo Hamburgo, Brazil, linguistically express the perception of their first text production experience from Moodle. Thus, I tried to reflect on the implications of this perception to the process of teaching and learning aiming at the digital literacy. In this setting, then, we proposed five classes in a Moodle institutional group from June to July, 2014. The classes were driven from the Brazilian Olympiad of Portuguese Language program, and the daily postings of the virtual environment constitute our research corpus. Having that, I sought to build pathways to understand the triad on-line teaching/cyberculture/digital literacy through a theoretical background which considers the Appraisal Theory (MARTIN; WHITE, 2005) aided by the approach of Cognitive Psychology (SCHERER, 2005), at the intersection between digital literacy (SOARES, 2002; COSCARELLI, 2014) and multiliteracies (ROJO, 2009; 2012), and the issues relating to cyberculture/cyberspace (LÉVY, 1999; LEMOS, 2000-2008). The analysis methodology is supported on the conceptual categories of the Appraisal Theory and on the guiding questions brought by the triad at Rojo (2009), Soares (2002, 2003, 2010), Coscarelli and Santos (2007), Coscarelli (2014) Franciosi, Medeiros and Cola (2003), Tori (2009), Lemos (2000), Lévy (1999), Dias (1999), Freitas (2010) and Santaella (2013). In this process, data is organized from the Appraisal Groups (AGs) design (WHITELAW, GARG; ARGAMON, 2005), which are coherent groups of words that together express a particular attitude. The results show the occurrence of 183 adjectives distributed in 163 AGs, from which we extract to reflect the categories of analysis (1) class, (2) Moodle, (3) production, (4) experience and (5) evaluator. Our analysis shows that the Appraisal Theory is an effective method both to evaluate the digital environment, consolidating its position as a teaching-learning place in primary education, and for the emotion lexical mapping of the age group that constitutes the analyzed group. Moreover, it shows the possibility of a satisfaction setting of an elementary school student to the process of digital literacy from the virtual learning environment.

Exploring Teachers' Perspective of Digital Literacy Pedagogy: Implications for Future Practice

Sabado, Kindra Xerez 01 January 2018 (has links)
Pedagogy has not addressed the literacy shift from reading, writing, and speaking to include cognitive digital literacy skills. Teachers lack the technological pedagogical content knowledge to integrate digital literacy skills into student learning. Using a digital literacy framework with 6 essentials skills, the purpose of this qualitative case study was to investigate teachers' (a) current understanding, knowledge and skills; (b) current integration of digital literacy skills; (c) challenges they face in integration; and (d) supports needed in shifting pedagogical practices to address change. Participants were 13 teachers from high school content areas. Data were gathered through focus groups interviews, observations, and artifacts. Data were coded with MAXQDA software, compared, organized, and refined based on the 4 research questions. Findings revealed high levels of knowledge for the terms digital literacy and photovisual literacy. Integration levels of digital literacy skills varied with more evidence in photovisual and reproduction literacy. Five minor challenge themes (critical thinking; time; information and technology literacy; infrastructure and access; and behavior and attitude) and 4 minor support themes (professional development; planning and preparation time; observation and feedback; and schoolwide focus and routines) emerged. Analysis of findings revealed 4 major themes: critical thinking, integrated professional development, effective use of time, and infrastructure and schoolwide routines. Findings may affect positive social change by engaging teachers in critical reflection through professional development leading to improvements in teacher pedagogical practices related to furthering the digital literacy skills of youth.

The Politics and Pedagogy of Young People's Digital Media Participation

Burwell, Catherine 05 January 2012 (has links)
In this thesis I survey the terrain of digital interactions between youth, corporations and pop culture texts in order to complicate current visions of participatory culture. I argue that popular images of the empowered young users of a new digital democracy need to be complicated by asking questions about the politics of digital participation: about whose voices are heard, about where attention is centred, about how interactivity is defined, about who is rewarded for creative labour. The opening chapter introduces key issues within a critical examination of digital participation, including commodification, user agency and intellectual property. It also outlines my methodologies and my choice of research site – namely internet television, and the proliferation of corporate and youth practices around digitized television texts. The next two chapters provide case studies that identify and evaluate not only the interactions between corporate producers and young users, but also the power relations between the two. First, I analyze young women‘s video remixes of the program Gossip Girl. I consider the remixes as gendered texts that contribute new aesthetics and concerns, even as they reproduce dominant interpretations of contemporary girlhood. I also consider the distribution of the videos on YouTube, noting how their circulation simultaneously challenges corporate ownership and creates profit and promotion for those same corporate owners. Next, I examine interactions around the The Colbert Report. Focusing on the program‘s official discussion boards, I demonstrate how young fans have taken up Stephen Colbert‘s invitation to join in the parody by creating a vibrant, dialogic and rowdy community that has frequently come into conflict with Comedy Central producers. In their attempts to address these conflicts and create alternative spaces of their own, these young people gesture towards larger tensions over the control of public digital dialogue. The final chapter draws on my research and experience as a teacher to consider how these case studies might help us to frame our own educational projects. I call for a digital literacy curriculum that provides both a place for students to reflect on their daily activities within mediated environments and the opportunity to experiment with digital production.

The findings of the study show that there are a number of factors influencing ICT integration in Grade 10 English (FAL).&nbsp / These factors include teachers&rsquo / and learners&rsquo / limited access to ICT and digital literacy.&nbsp / Other factors relate to pedagogy and support in the use of ICT in teaching and learning.&nbsp / All the identified factors indicate that there are a number of barriers to ICT integration in English teaching and learning.&nbsp / The study concludes that ICT use has great potential in providing creativity and innovativeness to facilitate language teaching and learning. Given the lack of adequate ICT resources and under-utilization of ICT resources in disadvantaged schools, there is a need to improve teacher and learner access to ICT, especially in disadvantaged schools.&nbsp / This could be done through monitored support and adequate teacher training and active involvement of higher education institutions through teacher training programmes which should prioritize ICT integration in their curricula.&nbsp /
