Code readability: Code comments OR self-documenting code : How does the choice affect the readability of the code?

Nielsen, Sebastian, Tollemark, David January 2016 (has links)
Context: Code readability is something every software developer tackles every day. In order for efficient maintainability and learning of a program the documentation needs to be of high quality. Objectives: This thesis is attempting to show what the general perspective the software developers have. We investigate which method that is preferred and why. We will also look at readability and what similarities and differences there are among students and IT professionals. Conclusion: We have collected data from several sources. Firstly from a literature review where different papers within the field are presented. Secondly from two separate surveys conducted on students and IT professionals. From our results we found that documentation is something that software developers heavily rely on and that the need for extensive documentation differs with working experience.

Strategier för ett meningsfullt kvalitetsarbete : En fallstudie av förskolors arbete med underlaget ”Kvalitetsindikator för förskolan” som en del i ett systematiskt kvalitetsarbete

Jesper, Davidsson January 2017 (has links)
An empirical case study about what preschool teachers perceive as meaningful methods regarding the "Quality indicator for the preschool", which is a tool to systematize teachersassessment and progression when working with quality improvement. Swedish law states that the preschool must accomplish a systematic quality improvement. According to my experience, preschool teachers and principals find this aim more or less difficult, more or less meaningful. This is a mandatory part of the curriculum and therefor the preschool needs to make efforts in securing quality. I want to highlight constructive strategies so that preschool teachers perceive working with quality improvement as meaningful. The study is based on qualitative methods and I have interviewedfour experienced preschool teachers. They have been asked about their experience of working with "Quality Indicator forPreschool", as part of working systematically with quality, their way of working and their thoughts on the possible improvements. The theoretical frameworks chosen for analysis are postmodernism, social constructivism and social semiotics. The concepts meaningful and meaningfullness as well as quality are definedin more detail as of how they are used within this context. The result shows that the preschool teachers find "Quality Indicator for Preschool" meaningful because it widens their perspective of their pedagogical work and what can be improved. On the other hand, there are differences in their working methods and approaches. In order for their work to be meaningful, an understanding of how to interpret teaching in relation to the preschool curriculum using documentation and discussion becomes vital. Results also show the importance of the principal implementing structures, participating in work and keeping constructive conversations with the preschool teachers

Making or breaking personnel with documentation

Holm, Anna January 2014 (has links)
In order to support a standardized and uniform documentation one can use different types of aids such as influencing attitudes, provide training and customize tools for documentation. This study looks at documentation in elderly care from the personnel’s perspective and seeks to better understand their view of and experience with documentation in relation to the aids described above. By holding semi-structured interviews with 12 people working with elderly care qualitative data were obtained and later analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). A range of different thoughts and attitudes towards documentation were found, some that could facilitate documentation, but also some that could hinder a good documentation practice. Also different insecurities were found such as lack of experience/knowledge about documentation, technology or language. Colleagues are a great resource for helping and educating personnel but it might be hard for them to explain some things they do if they aren’t aware of how they do it. It might also take time to readjust to new procedures such as a common information structure, especially for the experienced workers that have formed routines for how to do things. Contextual factors are important and the documentation systems have the ability to make or break the users.

The urban interpersonal violence represents a serious challenge for public authorities and managers. This study aimed to investigate the oral maxillofacial trauma caused by interpersonal violence regarding its epidemiologic and criminal implication aspects, as well as to evaluate the importance of clinical documentation in forensic exams. A retrospective observational study has been conducted involving 1,048 forensic dental reports generated in the years 2012 and 2013 in the city of Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil. Interpersonal violence was the cause of oral maxillofacial trauma in 405 (38.6%) exams, involving mainly young, white and unmarried men. The most common harmful agent was the punch. The soft tissues were most injured, being bruise the predominant injury. The more fractured bones were maxilla and mandible. Anterior teeth showed a higher incidence of crown fractures. Regarding criminal classification, light body damage predominated and teeth-only injuries implied light, severe and very severe damage. There was presentation of clinical documentation in 132 (32.6%) forensic exams. It was found that the oral maxillofacial trauma due to interpersonal violence has reached alarming levels in both years of study, being the clinical documentation an important mean of obtaining evidence, particularly in indirect forensic examination. It is suggested to carry out epidemiological studies covering other regions of the State of Rio de Janeiro and the country for more detailed analysis of the phenomenon, as well as the participation of the dentist as an effective forensic team member / Mestrado / Odontologia Legal e Deontologia / Mestra em Biologia Buco-Dental

Využití programu ArcGIS pro telekomunikační sítě / Application of ArcGIS Program in Telecommunication Networks

Štohanzl, Pavel January 2008 (has links)
This thesis deals with the issues of locating and marking both metalic and optical transmission network. The choice of an appropriate program for creation and management of map document is discussed. In the following chapter some necessary adjustments to the ArcGIS ArcView program are made so that it is applicable to the field of telecommunication networks. The last chapter addresses the design of documentation options in optical transmission network. For metalic cables the possibilities of attaching transmitter to a cable and locating the induced magnetic field is covered. Among the methods for finding optical cables we list ways of locating through the use of markers, GPS location and added metalic conductors. Fundamentals of markers and their types are thoroughly analysed. In the chapter on GPS we examine how this system works and evaluate its accuracy. The next chapter enumerates requirements that a program should meet. We analyse properties of considered programs and evaluate them with respect to these requirements. For a chosen program the possibilities of enriching it with selected map document are discussed. For these map document, information about their applicability and source is presented. We also quote the cost for these maps wherever possible. The last chapter treats ways of documenting optical networks.
