Architecture for a remote diagnosis system used in heavy-duty vehicles

Björkman, Anders January 2008 (has links)
<p>The diagnosis system of a Scania vehicle is an indispensable tool for workshop personnel and engineers in their work. Today Scania has a system for fetching diagnostic information from field test vehicles remotely and store them in a database, so called remote diagnosis. This saves the engineers much time by not having to visit every vehicle. The system uses a Windows based on-board PC in the vehicle called an Interactor. The Interactor has a telematic unit for communication with Scanias Fleet Management System and the CAN-bus in the vehicle. In the next generation of the Interactor, its telematic unit is to be replaced by a Linux based telematic unit called the Communicator 200 (C200). The purpose of this master project is to create a new architecture for a remote diagnosis system that uses the new telematic unit Communicator 200.</p><p><br />The thesis gives an analysis of the current remote diagnosis system used at Scania and proposes an architecture for a new generation remote diagnosis system using the C200. Also a system for demonstrating how to perform remote diagnosis over the C200 has been built. The thesis describes the operation and how the demonstration system was implemented.</p>

Corporate responsibility, marketing, and reputation : a stakeholder approach for sustainable car fleet management

Vogt, Roland January 2014 (has links)
Corporate responsibility is increasingly involved in corporate reputation, and so, in the economic success of a company. Car fleet operating companies are exposed to criticism and, as a direct result of this many corporate protagonists responsible for the operation of car fleets are developing measures to decrease CO2 emissions and fuel consumption. A second trend is the increasing usage of image-generating marketing actions in the worldwide ‘information society’. For various reasons, these image campaigns do not always lead to the expected improvements in corporate reputation. The crucial question is, how do these marketing actions, in the name of corporate social responsibility, relate to corporate reputation? The objective of this research is to establish rules for these relationships and to derive a new stakeholder approach to optimise corporate reputation regarding car fleet management marketing. First of all this study examines theoretical evidence in preparation for further empirical studies on the behaviour of sustainable car fleet management. With this in mind, the thesis looks at empirical evidence about the factors deemed necessary for successful responsible car fleet operation and its marketing. After conducting an online survey with more than 300 respondents, a multiple-embedded-case study with three cases, six supplementary cases, and several stakeholders represents the main part of this work. As a result, this work depicts, through three models, and via a new stakeholder approach (a combination of the three), the relationships of certain main types of firm with main types of fleet as well as the main types of marketing to support corporate reputation. Unexpected findings regarding the suitable intensity of communication to internal and external stakeholders have emerged. This approach successfully supports the design of sustainable car fleet management and a suitable arrangement of the marketing approach.

Moving beyond connecting things : What are the factors telecommunication service providers need to consider when developing a Data-as-a-Service offering?

GOHARI MOGHADAM, SHERVIN, ÅHLGREN, THOR January 2020 (has links)
The Internet of Things and connected devices has been getting more and more recognition in multiple industries the last few years. At the same time, the gathering of data is withholding a more central role for both companies and civilians. One type of Internet of Things is enabled by telecommunication Service Providers(TSP)providing SIMcards in devices, functioning by an advanced telecommunication infrastructure. This study aims to examine how these TSPs can leverage data generated by the communication infrastructure, by providing an additional data-as-a-service (DaaS) to current customers. The study was done at a global TSP within the area of SIM-fleet management/IoT enablement. The number of industries that are starting to connect devices are growing extensively, to get all types of information regarding the devices ranging from electricity-usage &amp; geocoordinates to performance or other useful information. The data that is sent by the SIM-card belongs to the customer, and the TSPs does not access it. However, the telecommunication infrastructure generates data created by the communication of the devices, which is gathered by the TSP. Since a huge amount of data is attained by the TSP offering the infrastructure, the aim for this study is to examine eventual obstacles and opportunities of a DaaSoffering. How the data is to be delivered, customers connectivity-needs and how current insights streams are delivered are examples of subjects the study will examine. The work has its foundation in a theoretical reference frame and a qualitative empirical study. The theoretical reference provides a theoretical overview of the industry's development and earlier research within the area. It was created by conducting a literature study combined with reports provided by trade organizations and other stakeholders. The empirical study contains 6 interviews with employees at a global TSP, with an extensive history of connected devices. The two parts were then compiled in order to compare the result with the theoretical background. It appeared that a lot of the challenges of developing a DaaS from the result agreed with the theoretical reference frame. The customers' differences in connectivity-maturity was shown to pose a great challenge to standardize a DaaS-offering, and the clients analytical needs were dependent on the same premises. Furthermore DaaS is considered to have a great effect on the industry's future development, / Internet of Things och uppkopplade produkter har blivit ett allt vanligare begrepp inom flertalet branscher.

[en] ANALYSIS AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A SYSTEM FOR THE DYNAMIC FLEET MANAGEMENT / [pt] ANÁLISE E IMPLEMENTAÇÃO DE UM SISTEMA PARA O GERENCIAMENTO DINÂMICO DE FROTAS

MILENA SANTANA BORGES 30 May 2003 (has links)
[en] The objective of this dissertation is to contribute to the large-scale fleet management, looking for a greater efficiency and speed in vehicle distribution over time and space, while maximizing total profit. Dynamic fleet management problems are normally formulated as a dynamic network, but it`s really difficult to work with problems of this class, especially when we look for a solution over a large planning horizon. In order to overcome this problem, Powell & Carvalho (1998) developed a new formulation for these problems: the Logistics Queuing Network. The use of its algorithm in real problems (using a software) would allow quickly and more efficient decisions in transports, being really useful especially for transports enterprises. For this reason, the algorithm LQN was implemented, through the development of a software for the large-scale fleet management, so we could verify the potential application of this algorithm.

Indirect Tire Monitoring System - Machine Learning Approach

Svensson, Oskar, Thelin, Simon January 2017 (has links)
The heavy duty vehicle industry has today no requirement to providea tire pressure monitoring system by law. This has created issues sur-rounding unknown tire pressure and thread depth during active service. There is also no standardization for these kind of systems which meansthat different manufacturers and third party solutions work after theirown principles and it can be hard to know what works for a given vehicletype. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) put out a new study that determined that underinflated tires of 25% or less are 3 times more likely to be involved in a crash related to tire issues versus vehicles with properly inflated tires. The objective for this thesis is to create an indirect tire monitoring system that can generalize a method that detect both incorrect tire pressure and thread depth for different type of vehicles within a fleet without the need for additional physical sensors or vehicle specific parameters. Drivec Bridge hardware interprets existing sensors from the vehicle. By using supervised machine learning a classifier was created for each axle where the main focus was the front axle which had the most issues. The classifier will classify the vehicles tires condition. The classifier will be implemented in Drivecs cloud service and use data to classify  the tires condition. The resulting classifier of the project is a random forest implemented in Python. The result from the front axle with a dataset consisting of 9767 samples of buses with correct tire condition and 1909 samples of buses with incorrect tire condition it has an accuracy of90.54% (±0.96%). The data sets are created from 34 unique measurements from buses between January and May 2017. The developed solution is called Indirect Tire Monitoring System (ITMS) and is seen as a process. The project group has verified with high accuracy that a vehicle has been classified as bad and then been reclassified as good over a time span of 16 days. At the first day offboard measurements were performed and it showed that the tires of the front axle were underinflated. The classifier indicated that the vehicle had bad classifications until day 14. At this day an offboard measurement was performed and it was concluded that they were no longer underinflated and the classifier indicated this as well. To verify the result the workshop was contacted and verified that the vehicle had changed tires of the front axle at day 14. This has verified that the classifier is able to detect change and stay consistent in the results over a longer time period.
