[en] CATV NEW TECNOLOGIES / [pt] NOVAS TECNOLOGIAS PARA REDES DE TELEVISÃO A CABO

LOURDES DEL ROCIO DE LA CRUZ BERMEO 22 August 2006 (has links)
[en] This work is aiming at discussing the future possibilities the CATV systems are likely to offer, concerning iterative communications and broadband services. In what concerns the system optical section, a search is carried out in order to reach suitable arrangements and configurations concerning the basic used components, namely: laser, external modulator, EDFA and the optical fiber. Both standard and dispersion shifted fiber utilization are considered. Considering broadband utilization, a practical experiment is carried out. A two carrier WDM system is tested in the laboratory. The first carrier - 1310 nm - is digitally modulated at 2.48 Gbit/s, while the second one - 1550 nm - carries an AM-VSB modulation. Crosstalk is measured and the obtained results are compared with those from a proposed theoretical model. A satisfactory agreement validates the model. Next, the same model is then used for predicting crosstalk level in another two carrier WDM, however now, with both carriers being digitally modulated at 2.48 Gbit/s. the obtained results suggest that this last arrangement is worthwhile to be used for efficiently carrying digital video. A discussion on new solutions for video compression, modulation formats and transport techniques is follwed. The work is closed with a number of new CATV network solutions being suggested. Previously obtained results and performed suggestions are used for achieving two basiv lines of applications. The first one is based on HFC arrangements, mainly conceived for cable TV operators. The second on is based on FTTH arrangements, being this last suggestion better suited for traditional telephone companies.

Microescultura por laser de superfícies metálicas para manufatura de laminados híbridos metal/fibra / Laser microesculpture of metallic surfaces to hybrid fiber-metal laminates

Dias, Rita de Cássia Costa 22 February 2013 (has links)
This work aimed at manufacturing hybrid fiber-metal laminates (FML) by employing 0,5 mm-thick \'TI\'6\'AL\'4\'V\'-alloy plaques with fiber laser modified surface in order to optimize metal adhesion with poli-phenylene sulfide (PPS) thermoplastic polymer. The surface microtexture of metallic alloy strongly depended upon the laser power, inasmuch as low-power laser led to true texturization of metal surface, whereas high-power laser light drove to its ablation. Surface metal texturization under low-power laser apparently was the most appropriate condition to metal-polymer adhesion via mechanical entanglement of macromolecules, which was offset by high levels of residual stresses on metallic plaques, bringing them quite warped and useless. The use of an intermediate laser power (160 W) has been shown benign to the optimization between metal-polymer physical adhesion and the residual stress level created in the metal plates. It has been concluded that testpieces machined from the FML central position exhibited average ultimate interlaminar shear strenght considerably higher than those extracted from the FML borders. The FML manufactured under higher pressure and temperature was more compacted and better consolidated, so that it displayed the greatest average performance under interlaminar shear loading. Evidences of a correlation between the failure mechanism by interlaminar shearing of test coupon and its allowance to this type of mechanical loading were documented and discussed.

As fibras introduzidas no composto proporcionam elevada ductilidade. / The development of new concretes is being expanded over the years, withal the improvements in structural design, along the increased knowledge of materials properties, which leads the designers to develop structures with specific requirements. It arises the need of the development of special concretes, with have enhanced mechanical strength and durability. Reactive powder concrete, also called RPC, is an example of these materials. This is an ultra-high-performance concrete with high mechanical strength, extremely ductile and low porosity. This type of concrete has superior mechanical properties compared to high strength concrete, reaching compressive strengths of 200 MPa, tensile strengths of 45 MPa and modulus higher than 50 GPa. The cement consumption in this type of concrete may reach 800 kg/m3, while incorporating high volumes of silica fume. The optimization of granular constituents accomplished by particle packing methods provides a material with a minimum of voids and also high density. The fiber introduced into the material compound provides high ductility. On this report, fly ash was used to replace some part of the cement, aiming the development of a RPC with low agglomerate consumption. It was also studied the use of two types of fiber, or hybridization, to a RPC matrix array of CPR with less consumption of cement. The introduction of two distinct types of fibers gives the material improved synergy, decreasing the formation and propagation of cracks during the charging. The results obtained in this study show that the partial replacement of cement by fly ash gives better mechanical performance, reaching the compressive strength of approximately 190 MPa with 30% addition. The incorporation of two different types of fibers, steel and polypropylene at levels of 80% and 20% respectively, provided the materials high tensile strength and toughness. Therefore, it is possible to compose an RPC with lower cement consumption and use of two types of fibers, improving the properties of the mixture and obtaining a composite with reduced environmental impact.

Use of non-steel fiber reinforcement in concrete tunnel lining

Seo, Sang Yeon 26 January 2011 (has links)
Fiber reinforcement is being widely used in concrete tunnel linings these days. Using fiber reinforcement can save not only cost, but also labor and time spent on construction. However, many owners hesitate to incorporate fiber reinforcement in tunnel lining due to lack of experience with and knowledge of the behavior of fiber reinforced concrete (FRC) In this study, fiber reinforced concrete was made with various kinds of fibers such as steel fiber, macro-synthetic fiber and hybrid fiber (a blend of macro-synthetic fiber and glass fiber). Many experimental tests were performed to investigate the compressive, flexural and shear behavior of fiber reinforced concrete. In addition to the structural capacity of FRC, the distribution of fiber reinforcement inside the concrete matrix was investigated. Test results of these experimental tests were thoroughly examined to compare and quantify the effects of fiber reinforcement. Next, the test results were used to generate axial force-bending moment interaction diagrams based on current design approaches. In addition, the current design approaches were modified to estimate the accurate and exact value of bending moment. Fiber reinforcement clearly improved the structural performance of tunnel lining. The post-peak flexural and shear strength was significantly influenced by the type and amount of fiber reinforcement. / text

Forecasting Codeword Errors in Networks with Machine Learning / Prognostisering av kodordsfel i nätverk med maskininlärning

Hansson Svan, Angus January 2023 (has links)
With an increasing demand for rapid high-capacity internet, the telecommunication industry is constantly driven to explore and develop new technologies to ensure stable and reliable networks. To provide a competitive internet service in this growing market, proactive detection and prevention of disturbances are key elements for an operator. Therefore, analyzing network traffic for forecasting disturbances is a well-researched area. This study explores the advantages and drawbacks of implementing a long short-term memory model for forecasting codeword errors in a hybrid fiber-coaxial network. Also, the impact of using multivariate and univariate data for training the model is explored. The performance of the long short-term memory model is compared with a multilayer perceptron model. Analysis of the results shows that the long short-term model, in the vast majority of the tests, performs better than the multilayer perceptron model. This result aligns with the hypothesis, that the long short-term memory model’s ability to handle sequential data would be superior to the multilayer perceptron. However, the difference in performance between the models varies significantly based on the characteristics of the used data set. On the set with heavy fluctuations in the sequential data, the long short-term memory model performs on average 44% better. When training the models on data sets with longer sequences of similar values and with less volatile fluctuations, the results are much more alike. The long short-term model still achieves a lower error on most tests, but the difference is never larger than 7%. If a low error is the sole criterion, the long short-term model is the overall superior model. However, in a production environment, factors such as data storage capacity and model complexity should be taken into consideration. When training the models on multivariate and univariate datasets, the results are unambiguous. When training on all three features, ratios of uncorrectable and correctable codewords, and signal-to-noise ratio, the models always perform better. That is, compared to using uncorrectable codewords as the only training data. This aligns with the hypothesis, which is based on the know-how of hybrid fiber-coaxial experts, that correctable codewords and signal-to-noise ratio have an impact on the occurrence of uncorrectable codewords.

Unsupervised Anomaly Detection and Root Cause Analysis in HFC Networks : A Clustering Approach

Forsare Källman, Povel January 2021 (has links)
Following the significant transition from the traditional production industry to an informationbased economy, the telecommunications industry was faced with an explosion of innovation, resulting in a continuous change in user behaviour. The industry has made efforts to adapt to a more datadriven future, which has given rise to larger and more complex systems. Therefore, troubleshooting systems such as anomaly detection and root cause analysis are essential features for maintaining service quality and facilitating daily operations. This study aims to explore the possibilities, benefits, and drawbacks of implementing cluster analysis for anomaly detection in hybrid fibercoaxial networks. Based on the literature review on unsupervised anomaly detection and an assumption regarding the anomalous behaviour in hybrid fibercoaxial network data, the kmeans, SelfOrganizing Map, and Gaussian Mixture Model were implemented both with and without Principal Component Analysis. Analysis of the results demonstrated an increase in performance for all models when the Principal Component Analysis was applied, with kmeans outperforming both SelfOrganizing Map and Gaussian Mixture Model. On this basis, it is recommended to apply Principal Component Analysis for clusteringbased anomaly detection. Further research is necessary to identify whether cluster analysis is the most appropriate unsupervised anomaly detection approach.

Tensile behavior of high-performance cement-based composites with hybrid reinforcement subjected to quasi-static and impact loading

Gong, Ting 17 February 2021 (has links)
Strain-hardening cement-based composites (SHCC) and textile-reinforced concrete (TRC) are two novel types of fiber-reinforced cementitious composites that exhibit ductile, strain-hardening tensile behavior. SHCC comprises fine-grained cementitious matrices and short, high-performance polymer fiber, while TRC is a combination of a fine-grained, cementitious matrix and continuous two- or three- dimensional textile layers of multi-filament yarns, usually made of carbon or alkali-resistant glass. Both composites yield high inelastic deformations in a strain-hardening phase due to the successive formation of multiple fine cracks. Such cracking behavior stands for high energy absorption of the composites when exposed to extreme loading, without abrupt loss of load-bearing capacity. In comparative terms, SHCC shows superior strain capacity, while TRC yields considerably higher tensile strength. The addition of short fibers strengthens the matrix by efficiently restraining the micro-cracks’ growth and reducing spallation, while the textile reinforcement ensures a secure confinement of the reinforced concrete element (substrate to be strengthened), as well as a favorable stress distribution. The combination of SHCC and textile reinforcement is expected to deliver high tensile strength and stiffness in the strain-hardening stage along with pronounced multiple cracking. In order to achieve a favorable synergetic effect, a purposeful material design is required based on a clear understanding of the mechanical interactions in the composites. In the framework of the DFG Research Training Group GRK 2250, which aims at enhancing structural impact safety through thin strengthening layers made of high-performance mineral-based composites, this work focuses on developing hybrid fiber-reinforced cementitious materials to be applied on the impact rear side. The development concept builds upon a systematic investigation of various aspects of the mechanical behaviors of SHCC and textile at quasi-static and impact strain rates, including the bond properties of fiber to matrix and textile to matrix. Accordingly, uniaxial quasi-static tension tests were first performed on SHCC, bare textile, and hybrid-reinforced composite specimens. The parameters under investigation were types of short fiber and textile reinforcements, reinforcing the ratio for textile as well as bond properties between textile and the surrounding SHCC. Furthermore, impact tension tests were performed to study the strain rate effect on the synergetic composite response. Finally, single-yarn pull-out tests were carried out under both quasi-static and impact loading rates to supplement the comparative assessment of the hybrid fiber-reinforced composites. These tests yielded shear strength-related parameters for quantifying the bond properties of different materials, which were then used as input of the analytical model developed to describe the mechanics of crack propagation and tension stiffening effect of textile-reinforced composites without short fibers. This model is the first step towards a comprehensive analytical description of the tensile behavior of hybrid fiber-reinforced composites based on the experimental data and input parameters attained through the work at hand.

[en] This work presents the study of optical quantum communication in the infrared region, using a hybrid optical-fiber – free-space system, as proof of principle for the agreement on secret keys by two parties for use in one-time pad encryption. By modulating the polarization of laser light into orthogonal polarizations, one can encode the classic bits 1 and 0 in each of these polarizations, being detected by single photon counter detectors, and can use the quantum channel to transmit the quantum bits between two interlocutors. It is then possible to use those bits to establish the cryptographic key, which can be used in any type of information to be transmitted by a classic or quantum channel. While carrying out transmission in free space optics, subject to climatic variations, such as atmospheric temperature, sunlight, presence of clouds and rain, and the presence of wind, the influence of these phenomena on the quality of transmission and on the data obtained was also studied. The experimental results showed consistency with the theory and with other works published to date with regard to quantum bit error rates and to the bit rate. The error rates obtained, being below the theoretical threshold for information security in quantum communication, further proves the possibility of establishing a secret key for encryption through the use of quantum key distribution (QKD). It also presented good quality on the information recovered after decryption.
