Status quo und Entwicklungsperspektiven des Fourth Party Logistics Provider (4PL)-Ansatzes – Eine Mixed-Methods-Untersuchung

Die vorliegende Arbeit zur Logistik,verstanden als eine anwendungsorientierte Wissenschaftsdisziplin, verfolgt eine wissenschaftliche sowie praxisorientierte Zielsetzung. Als übergeordnetes Ziel ist die Feststellung des Status quo und der Entwicklungsperspektiven des 4PL-Ansatzes anzuführen. Durch die Verwendung von etablierten Forschungsmethoden wird die wissenschaftliche Rigorosität sichergestellt. Zur Erfüllung der praxisorientierten Zielsetzung wurden Fallstudien und Experteninterviews im Rahmen des Forschungsprozesses verwendet, um zum einen das Wissen aus der Praxis einzubinden und zum anderen eine Relevanz für die Praxis sicherzustellen. Für eine konsistente Praxis-Orientierung wurde die Branche der landwirtschaftlichen Schüttgutlogistik als exemplarisches Anwendungsfeld zur Untersuchung des 4PL-Ansatzes gewählt. Die Schüttgutlogistik beschreibt das Bindeglied zwischen der Landwirtschaft, dem Handel und der Ernährungsindustrie und somit einen Teil eines Netzwerkes. Das Transportvolumen betrug im Jahr 2010 ca. 3,5 Mrd. t, wobei 76 % (2,7 Mrd. t) auf den Straßenverkehr entfielen (Bundesministerium für Ernährung, Landwirtschaft und Verbraucherschutz 2010). In Anlehnung an die Trends der Logistik konnten gefestigte und klassische Strukturen vorgefunden werden, weshalb der 4PL-Ansatz als wahre Innovation untersucht werden konnte. Dies ist dadurch begründet, dass die Branche über genossenschaftliche Strukturen verfügt und neue technologische Trends eher zurückhaltend verfolgt. Dennoch sind die logistischen Herausforderungen wie die Reduzierung von Leerkilometern, die Optimierung der Frachtraumkapazitäten sowie die CO2-Reduzierung laut den befragten Akteuren der Branche von hoher Bedeutung (Müller 2010). Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurden daher Methoden, Modelle, Applikationen und Vorgehensweisen entwickelt, welche zur Beantwortung der folgenden übergeordneten Forschungsfragen herangezogen werden: 1. Was ist der Status quo des 4PL-Ansatzes sowie das Anforderungsprofil der landwirtschaftlichen Schüttgutlogistik an den 4PL? 2. Was sind die wichtigsten Diffusionsfaktoren des 4PL-Ansatzes in der deutschen landwirtschaftlichen Schüttgutlogistik? 3. Was sind die Potenziale innerhalb einer Branche durch Einführung eines 4PL? 4. Wie können eine Implementierung sowie die organisatorische Einordnung des 4PL-Ansatzes für eine Branche erfolgen? 5. Welche Trends der Zukunft zeigen Parallelen zum 4PL-Ansatz auf? Die vorliegende kumulative Dissertation zeigt Potenziale für die Branche auf und trägt zum Verständnis einer zukünftigen Entwicklung des 4PL-Ansatzes bei. Zur Zielerreichung wird ein Mixed-Methods-Ansatz verfolgt.

The choice of proper logistics provider can be complex and might influence the success of manufacturing company. The complexity of decision can be caused by the numerous crite-ria for the selection of logistics provider. The great number of studies are discussing and presenting suggestions on logistics providers‟ selection models mostly in following streams: strategic decision making in organizations, industrial buying behavior, transportation pur-chasing, logistics suppliers‟ selection, and logistics relationships. The need for efficient pro-vider‟s selection and important criteria evaluation is causing the purpose of this paper.After the solid analysis of the theories discussed in the literature the author of this thesis is purposing the development of the hybrid model of logistics provider selection framework and finalizing with the model adapted for the case company. The issues regarding relation-ship with logistics provider and important selection criteria are questioned in this research as well.The inductive research approach is applied in this thesis. The selected qualitative study is the most suitable method regarding the problem and purpose of the study and provides for better understanding of the opinions and perceptions of the interviewed participants re-garding the frameworks of selecting logistics providers, also the process of relationship formation and coordination. Moreover, quantifying method processed through question-naires while evaluating the wide range of selection criteria related to this process is per-formed. Single case study as the research strategy is chosen, thus data is collected from six interviews conducted at six different logistics departments of the company.The main conclusions after the analysis of the covered literature and received data are re-sulting in the advice for practical implementation of the discussed model in the company‟s current procedures. The process basically includes need identification, documentation for RFQ process preparation and distribution to perspective logistics providers, results‟ analy-sis and meetings during the selection process, trial time in some cases, then final decision. The adapted model of the selection process which can be used in Fläktwoods can assist manufacturing companies having similar needs and requirements in transportation terms. The strategies in relationships‟ with logistics providers handling do not require much atten-tion in the company as its long-term relationship with main logistics services provider is re-sulting in a higher level of competitive attainment, also shorter one-year contracts benefit the company in terms of flexibility and price competition. Regardless the type of relation-ship, perceived trust, equity, and commitment are highly valuable in the company, therefore the success of the current relationship is further depending on strategic evaluation. The fu-ture study can be inspired for multiply case study, also for broader empirical investigation within the company.

The car manufacturer (CM) and third party logistics provider (TPLP) relationship in the outbound delivery channel : a qualitative study of the Malaysian automotive industry

This research studies the relationship between car manufacturers (CM) and third party logistics providers (TPLP), also known as the logistics partnership, in the outbound delivery channel in the Malaysian automotive industry. It focuses specifically on the dyad perspective, and demonstrates that several critical success factors are required for a successful relationship between these two parties. Five such factors emanate from the operational dimension and eight from the relational dimension. The five operational factors are: logistics service performance, investment, information sharing, information technology and communication, and price of the logistics service; and the eight relational factors are: trust, commitment, power, conflict, dependency, co-operation, informal activity, and understanding. The study also reveals that five outcomes are identified that benefit both the CM and the TPLP as a result of the win-win situation accruing to both parties. These are: renewal of the contract, company profitability, improved logistics service performance, knowledge transfer, and company branding. Such benefits enhance the supply chain relationship, and knowledge of these advantages improves current TPLP theory by deepening the understanding of how logistics partnership can succeed. In order to obtain rich data concerning the CM-TPLP relationship, the researcher adopted a different methodology from that used by previous scholars, who have concentrated on quantitative techniques. In this study, multiple case studies (seven in total) in one industry, the automotive industry, in the non-western context of Malaysia, were conducted. Three main steps in the case study protocol were followed. The first involved a review of the literature pertaining to the themes that required further exploration, together with the development of the interview questions. In the second step, data were collected using semi-structured interviews, observations, document reviews, photographs and also archival records. Qualitative content analysis was used to analyse the qualitative data. The third stage involved exploring the data until it was found that nothing new was emerging from the interviews, and hence theoretical saturation had occurred. At this point the factors in question were confirmed, and the initial model revised. Additionally, confidentiality was maintained in all respects to protect the participating organisations and individuals. The findings contribute to the understanding of the CM-TPLP relationship which enhance supply chain relationship and TPLP theory, since they shed light on the operational and relational factors in one specific industry, from a dyadic perspective, and in a non-Western context, thereby adding new dimensions to the existing body of knowledge in this field. The findings benefit practitioners via the novel LPS (logistics partnership success) model generated by the researcher. This indicates the key contributory factors to the CM-TPLP relationship success. Moreover, the study may have the capacity to generalise to other culturally-similar environments.

Data Envelopment Analysis will be used to eliminate scale effect, and the tobit model to assess the impact of selected variables on the market.

[pt] A terceirização das atividades logísticas é uma prática crescente no contexto atual e constitui uma estratégia de gestão para gerar vantagens competitivas. Apesar do aumento do interesse acadêmico sobre prestadores de serviços logísticos (PSL), são poucos os estudos que dedicam especial ênfase a sintetizar o estado da arte sobre PSL, sendo que as revisões de literatura na área existem apenas em língua inglesa. Assim, como objetivo desta dissertação é apresentada uma revisão sistemática da literatura em português sobre prestadores de serviços logísticos, comparando os resultados obtidos com revisões sistemáticas da literatura sobre PSLs disponíveis em língua inglesa. As publicações de interesse foram localizadas nas bases eletrônicas de dados Emeraldinsight, ScienceDirect, Scielo (Scientific Electronic Library Online), Google Acadêmico, e periódicos da CAPES. Utilizou-se o modelo (framework) de Marasco (2007) e o modelo de Maloni e Carter (2006) para organizar as informações da literatura sobre PSL. O modelo de Marasco (2007) inclui o contexto, a estrutura, o processo e os resultados do relacionamento Cliente- PSL. O modelo de Maloni e Carter (2006), também utilizado para guiar a revisão, forneceu as bases para estabelecer as variáveis de análise das informações, sendo elas: 1) definições sobre PSL, 2) motivadores para se terceirizar a logística, 3) inibidores, 4) processo de terceirização de serviços logísticos, 5) critérios de seleção e/ou avaliação de PSLs, 6) indicadores de desempenho, 7) atividades terceirizadas e 8) pesquisas futuras. Os resultados indicam que os modelos permitem identificar e organizar de forma eficiente os principais assuntos sobre PSLs, bem como as limitações das investigações existentes, oferecendo possibilidades de pesquisas futuras. Ao comparar os resultados obtidos com revisões sistemáticas da literatura sobre PSL em língua inglesa, são identificados vários aspectos em comum, mas também assuntos que diferem, e que são característicos dos PSLs do Brasil. Isso evidencia o fato de que a análise da terceirização da logística pode variar de acordo com a região e são necessários estudos que continuem ampliando o escopo geográfico da pesquisa sobre PSLs. / [en] The outsourcing of logistics activities is a growing practice in the current context, and it’s a management strategy to promote competitive advantages. Despite the increased academic interest in logistics service providers (LSP), there are few studies in literature that devote special emphasis to synthesize the state of the art on LSP, and the few literature reviews in the area exist only in English. Thus, the objective of this dissertation is to present a systematic review of the literature in Portuguese on logistics service providers, and to compare the results obtained to the systematic reviews available in English. The publications of interest were located by querying the electronics databases Emeraldinsight, ScienceDirect, Scielo (Scientific Electronic Library Online), Google Scholar, and periodicals by CAPES. The frameworks of Marasco (2007) and Maloni and Carter (2006) were used to organize the information of the literature on LSP. The framework of Marasco (2007) includes the context, structure, process and outcomes of the LSP-client relationship. The framework of Maloni and Carter (2006), also used to guide the review provided the basis to establish the variables of analysis of information, namely: 1) definitions of LSP, 2) motivations to outsource logistics, 3) inhibitors, 4) the process of outsourcing of logistics services, 5) selection criteria and / or evaluation of LSPs, 6) performance indicators, 7) outsourcing activities and 8) future research. The results indicate that the models allow to identify and to organize efficiently LSPs on the main issues, as well as the limitations of existing research, offering possibilities for future research. By comparing the results obtained with systematic reviews of the LSPs literature in English, several common aspects are identified, but also different issues characteristic of LSPs in Brazil. This confirms the fact that the logistics outsourcing analysis can vary by region and further studies are needed to continue expanding the geographical scope of the investigation of LSPs.

A constante busca por ganhos e manutenção da competitividade diante do mercado global fazem surgir agrupamentos de organizações na forma de Plataformas Logísticas que visam aglutinar diversos tipos de serviços logísticos, maximizando a eficiência dos serviços oferecidos aos clientes, com redução dos custos envolvidos nos processos. Esta dissertação se propõe a fazer uma análise qualitativa das variáveis relevantes para a implantação de uma Plataforma Logística, de acordo com o modelo europeu e na própria compreensão da rede logística. Foi realizada uma revisão bibliográfica do assunto que reuniu dados e forneceu subsídios para um ambiente de discussão sobre a implantação e a viabilidade de aplicação deste modelo no Estado do Rio de Janeiro. Em particular, são examinadas as políticas de investimento requeridas por essas Plataformas, juntamente com os entraves e os principais impactos gerados por sua implantação. The constant search for profit and the sustained push for competitivity maintenance at global market has introduced organizations groups named Logistics Platform with the objective of joining various logistics types services, maximizing the efficiency of the services offered to customers, with reduction the costs of this involved. This M. Sc. Thesis proposes to make a qualitative analyses of the relevant variables involved in the implementation of Logistics Platforms, according to the European model and comprehension of logistics net. Was realized a bibliographic revision of subject that reunified data and supplied subsidies for discussion about implementation for the application viability of this model in the State of Rio de Janeiro. In particular, the request for investment politics for this Platforms are examined, with obstacles and main impacts generated by its implementation. In addition, the thesis offers a routine that to make possible is eventual implementation.
