Martin Luther's "Two Kingdoms Theory": An Analysis through the Lens of Dietrich Bonhoeffer's Religionless Christianity

Gesme, Janet Leigh 05 November 2013 (has links)
The following work is an analysis of Martin Luther's Two Kingdoms Theory. This influential and controversial theory was introduced in his 1523 treatise, Von weltlicher Obrigkeit--Secular Authority. Although this document was written almost 500 years ago and takes its cue from the writings of St. Augustine and the Bible, it continued to have a significant effect on German society in both the political and religious realm well into the present day. Based on an analysis of the text and on the culture and literature that led Luther to write Von weltlicher Obrigkeit, this thesis evaluates various interpretations and applications of the Two Kingdoms Theory. The specific effects of Luther's teaching during the Nazi era are examined politically and theologically. Dietrich Bonhoeffer's Religionsloses Christentum--Religionless Christianity and Martin Luther's Zwei-Reiche-Lehre--Two Kingdoms Theory will be compared to demonstrate that they illuminate the same truth from different vantage points: neither people nor their rules are viable substitutes for God. A brief introduction explains the means of analysis used in this thesis, which is based on Dietrich Bonhoeffer's call for a new religionless language as described in letters written during his imprisonment by the Nazi regime.

Eklesiologie Roberta Jensona / Ecclesiology of Robert Jenson

Krynský, Lukáš January 2015 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to provide an appropriate evaluation of ecclesiological concept in thinking of Robert Jenson through reading, interpretation and assessment of the text of the book: JENSON, W. Robert. Systematic Theology: The Works of God. Vol. 2., sub-chapter "The Church's Founding", pages 167-188. The focus of his concept is based on presenting multi-dimensional structure of the Church in time-place settings as an intrinsic expression for her catholicity. Term "totus Christus" is an expression for the actual relation of the Head and the Body. Subsequently, author elaborates concept of relation of the Church towards the Church's foundational and within- opened-time-of-delayed-parusia inducing and sustaining realities. In the second part, author elaborates a concept of role of the Spirit as the relational vivifying force of the Christ and the Church; possibility of lack of the Spirit; and indivisible clasp of the Christology, the Pneumatology and the Ecclesiology. Author also deals with concept of the Church as the eschatological detour, which is embedded within a broader framework of the split eschatology (in American theology called "the telescopic eschatology"). The second part of this thesis is based on an idea of the church is a polity of God. Thematically, it is grasped under...

"I believe it." : En luthersk-teologisk analys av Veronica Roths Divergent-trilogi.

Elhousny, Nadja January 2015 (has links)
The aim of this essay is to examine what happens when Veronica Roths Divergent-trilogy is read with a lutheran theological pre-understanding. Using reader-response theory and lutheran theology written for and in a post-modern context, three lutheran figures of thought are presented as one way of understanding the trilogy. The conclusion is that it is possible to reveal lutheran ideas concerning justification, guilt, forgiveness, mercy and self-sacrificing love in the Divergent-story.

[pt] A ARDENTE CARIDADE DO EVANGELHO: MISSIONARIEDADE EUCARÍSTICA NA TEOLOGIA LUTERANA / [en] THE FERVENT LOVE OF THE GOSPEL: EUCHARISTIC MISSIONARY SPIRIT IN LUTHERAN THEOLOGY

LAERTE TARDELI HELLWIG VOSS 04 May 2023 (has links)
[en] The research is carried out on the missional, ethical and horizontal dimension that flows from the Sacrament of the Lord s Supper in Lutheran theology, in a theological bias, dialogical and ecumenical perspective and with a particular interest in a pastoral application that affects the parish reality. In a time marked by an individualistic eucharistic praxis, uncompromised and unproductive from the point of view of the fruits of the sacrament, comes a search for the improvement of the liturgical-eucharistic spirituality directed towards the incarnated service of Christian charity in the world. Based on certain gap that is perceived in academic and ecclesial reflection on this relationship between the Eucharist and mission, particularly in the Brazilian Lutheran context, and on the intuition that there are enough elements in lutheran sacramental theology to be better used, this work poses the question: what kind of Eucharistic missionary spirit can be found in Lutheran theology? The research has a bibliographical methodology, with procedures for historical explanation and dialectical and progressive discussion. It starts from a contextualization of the Lutheran Reformation movement, assuming its intention to value the gospel and continues by unveiling Lutheran eucharistic theology, synthesized as the incarnate gospel. In an immersion in Luther s texts and other theologians of this tradition, the lutheran eucharistic missionarity is revealed in a powerful and fruitful call to the missional living of this gospel that intends to be incarnated horizontally. Finally, a pastoral proposal emerges for the benefit of the mission that flows from the altar to life, having the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brazil as its focus. Along the way, gems of the bilateral dialogue between Catholics and Lutherans and of Catholic theology itself are considered.

Jansson, Emma January 2019 (has links)
Traditional theories of atonement have been criticized from a feminist theological perspective for making the suffering and death of Jesus salvific, but there are also feminist theologians that propose a retrieval of the theology of the cross and atonement. The purpose in this thesis is to critically analyze three Lutheran feminists theologians interpretations of the theology of the cross and theology of atonement. This analysis will then be used in a discussion on how a constructive contribution to a Lutheran feminist theology of atonement can be formulated. My research question is “How can a modern Lutheran feminist position concerning atonement and the theology of the cross be formulated so that it is credible in the light of radical feminist criticism?” First, I present Rita Nakashima Brock and Rebecca Ann Parkers radical feminist criticism and present six models that criticizes theories of atonement. Second, I analyze three Lutheran and feminist theologians. The Lutheran feminist theologians that I analyze in this thesis is Deanna Thompson, Arnfríður Guðmundsdóttir and Caryn D. Riswold. The method I use to analyze the Lutheran feminist theologians is the theologian Sofia Camnerins atonement model, which focus on the aspects of "from-transition-to". Brock and Park criticize theories of atonement and Jesus death on the cross as salvific because it makes meaning out of suffering and which in their view has negative interpretation and negative consequences on women’s lives.  Brock and Parker also problematize the theology of atonement to be hurtful for victims of abuse and violence. Thompson propose a feminist theology of the cross and interprets atonement as God befriending humanity.  Guðmundsdóttir also propose a feminist theology of the cross and focus on that God is the one suffering on the cross. Riswold propose that atonement should be viewed through a sacramental and ecclesiological understanding. The conclusion that I present in this thesis is that all three Lutheran feminist theologians have a strong focus on the relational aspect of atonement.  A modern Lutheran feminist position that is credible in the light of radical feminist criticism takes this relational aspect of atonement seriously.

Dieison Gross Ferreira 20 August 2015 (has links)
This research has the general objective investigate the theological roots of hymns and sacred songs sung in the Evangelical Lutheran Community Scharlau, IECLB to thus understand theology from this context, its specific objectives are to examine the history of IECLB , the Encontrão Movement and the Evangelical Lutheran Community Scharlau , his contributions to the development of community music and verify to what extent is the influence of theological currents in the definition of the chosen hymn books and music, investigate the extent to which theological and musical conceptions of Luther are present in contemporary music sung in the Evangelical Lutheran Community Scharlau and delimit, from the analysis of modernity and postmodernity in relation Luther's theology , criteria of possibilities for the choices of songs to be sung in the celebrations.
