God's unique priest (Nyamesofopreko): christology in the Akan contextAgyarko, Robert Owusu January 2009 (has links)
Philosophiae Doctor - PhD / This study entails a constructive contribution towards a contemporary reinterpretation, within the Akan context, of the classic Christian notion of Christ's person and work as Mediator between God and humanity. Specifically, I endeavour to reinterpret aspects of the Christian confession of faith as formulated by the Council of Chalcedon (451) that, Jesus Christ is “truly God” (vere Deus) as well as “truly human”(vere homo). I build on the notion that the relationship between these two claims may also be understood in terms of the one "person" and the two "natures" of Jesus Christ. The work of Christ is reinterpreted from this perspective. The thesis is divided into two main parts. The first part, which covers the first four chapters, entail reviews of some of the dominant African Christologies - with particular reference to divine conqueror and ancestor Christologies. In these chapters, the adequacy of the mentioned Christologies is assessed with reference to the Nicene/Chalcedonian confessional definition concerning the person of Christ. The conclusion reached is that these Christologies do not adequately express the person of Christ as truly divine as well as truly human as defined by the first four ecumenical councils. As a result, these Christologies also express the work of Christ, particularly his atonement in a less adequate way. / South Africa

The relationship between social support, self-esteem and exposure to community violence on adolescent's perceptions of well-beingFourie, Jade Melissa January 2010 (has links)
Magister Artium (Psychology) - MA(Psych) / Violence is considered to be one of the most critical and threatening global problems plaguing the world today, leaving a trail of devastating consequences to societies, economies, cultures, families and individuals (Desjarlais & Kleinman, 1997). Adolescents who grow up in a context of violence learn distorted ways of thinking, acting, living and interacting. Aggressive tendencies and violent behaviour become internalised and adopted as acceptable ways to resolve conflict situations. Chronic, continuous exposure to violence results in physical, psychological and emotional disturbances, such as depression, anxiety, lowered self-confidence, sleep disturbances, decreased attention and concentration spans. This study addressed the form of violence known as community violence, i.e. violence that children experience within their communities (either as witnesses or as victims). This study investigated the effects of this negative environmental experience and investigated potential mediating and moderating variables that could influence the harmful effects of such experiences. The variables considered as mediating and/or moderating variables were social support and self-esteem. The theoretical framework adopted for this study was Bronfennbrenner's Bioecological Systems theory. / South Africa

Previous issue date: 2013-04-04 / In schools and various conflicts occur, in order to reduce them, the Department of Education of the State of Sao Paulo, through Resolution SE 19/2010, decided on the basis of Professor Mediator and Community School, which is part of School Protection Program, established by the Foundation for Development of Education. This study aims at investigating how Professor Mediator and Community School Board of Education-Region Assis-SP, is experiencing conflict situations in the school environment. The methodology used for the research was a qualitative approach with a case study. It was used for both semi structured interviews with four professors mediators belonging to the Board of Education and eight students from schools attended by these mediators. As tool for the analysis of the interviews we used the technique of the Collective Subject Speech. It was found that mediators receive support from the supervisory of the protection system of your school Teaching Board and not all receives the of school management. This will cause a feeling of devaluation and lack of motivation of their work. These educators believe that the schools are surrounded by many conflicts and that many of them have already come from the family relationship and complain of the lack of parental support. The most common types of conflicts that we found on a day-to-day are coping, sexuality touched on in the first grades of Basic Education and use of drugs in more advanced grades. To the students interviewed mentioned the conflict are the most common brawls. The results of the students testimonials evidence that the CEIP contributes to resolve conflicts in school because hears, orients, avoids aggressions and remakes friendships. Students report the importance of creating a culture of peace in schools and the CEIP and it helps a lot that the school improves his performance. The majority of students interviewees report that CEIP is more efficient to solve the problems in school, though other actors also agree that the school management also assist in this process. Finally, the professional has faced the most different situations in schools since students with pain, disregard for school rules, complaints by students against other students until situations in that need some advice. In this way, these professionals are constructing your identity for this new role. The research subsidizes the discussion about this function and contributes to the reflection of how the public policies are being implemented in practice.

Microbial Interactions: Prediction, Characterization, and Spatial ContextDyckman, Samantha Katherine January 2021 (has links)
Thesis advisor: Babak Momeni / Microbial communities are complex networks comprised of multiple species that are facilitating and inhibiting one another (as well as themselves). Currently, we lack an understanding of what mechanisms drive coexistence within these communities. We aimed to remedy this by studying the dynamics of coexisting communities, focusing on the complexity of their interaction networks, the impact of spatial dynamics, and the interplay of facilitating and inhibiting interactions. These limitations in our understanding prevent the furtherment of designing intentional communities for bioremediation, maintenance of healthy microbiota, and other functional communities. To better understand these microbial dynamics, we chose to address the problem from two fronts: computational modeling and exploring dynamics of cocultures. Through our 1-D model, spatial structure fostering more coexistence – especially when facilitation is present. For the coexistence assays, we determined that contact-dependent growth inhibition is a density dependent mechanism, and the use of a Tn-Seq mutant library to predict species interactions is possible, but needs further optimization to reconcile density dependent effects of interactions. / Thesis (MS) — Boston College, 2021. / Submitted to: Boston College.

Analýza mediace ve statistice / Mediation analysis in statisticsHoráková, Lucie January 2017 (has links)
Diploma thesis "Mediation Analysis in Sociology" deals with mediation analysis and possibilities of its application in sociology, depending on the type of the dependent variable that enters the analysis. In the first case the dependent variable is continuous - in this case the SPSS software and its PROCESS add-on are used to directly analyse the mediation. In the second case the dependent variable that enters the analysis is binary - the PROCESS add-on doesn't allow this option; therefore, the analysis is performed in SPSS software by the set of linear and logistic regressions according to the Baron & Kenny method. Two case studies from the field of sociology, GSS (General Social Survey) and ISSP (International Social Survey Programme), are used in the thesis and the consequences of the transition from continuous dependent variable to binary are examined using the secondary analysis of these data.
