Salvador

[pt] ESTRATÉGIA COMO FATOR DETERMINANTE DE DESEMPENHO NA INDÚSTRIA AUTOMOBILÍSTICA BRASILEIRA / [en] STRATEGY AS KEY PERFORMANCE FACTOR IN BRAZILIAN AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY

BRUNO CASTELLO MEMORIA 24 September 2015 (has links)
[en] This study aims to evaluate the possible theoretical relationship between strategic groups of the Brazilian automobile industry and the performance of companies belonging to these strategic groups. [en] ANALYSIS OF THE VETERINARY INDUSTRY IN RIO DE JANEIRO: CHALLENGES AND COMPETITIVE STRATEGIES / [pt] ANÁLISE DO SETOR VETERINÁRIO NO RIO DE JANEIRO: DESAFIOS E ESTRATÉGIAS COMPETITIVAS

ANA CLARA BARROS DE CASTRO 16 November 2016 (has links)
[en] The Pet market accounted in 2015 for a turnover of more than 100 billion dollars in the world, with Brazil accounting for the third largest value - 18 billion Reais, or 7.6 percent growth compared to 2014. The veterinarian segment, responsible for 8 percent of these revenues, has increased considerably in recent years, through an industry professionalization process. Where once there were small family practices, clinics and hospitals, today they are growing, specializing and becoming increasingly competitive. In this scenario, and facing customers increasingly more demanding and well informed, managers have been making efforts to transform their businesses in more efficient and profitable firms. This work aims to identify the main forces acting on veterinary establishments market and evaluate the competitive strategies adopted by these companies to be successful in this scenario, according to the methodology of Michael Porter. Therefore seven managers of veterinary clinics in the state of Rio de Janeiro were interviewed. The results show that investments in innovation, infrastructure and skilled labor stumbles in industry barriers such as the difficulty of labor legalization, scarce management skills by the newly formed and complex bureaucracy, whether municipal, health surveillance or determined by the Federal Council of Veterinary Medicine. Although respondents report that the sector lacks a general strategy, there businesses have been successful by applying a strategy with narrow scope and differentiation.

In view of commercial tragedies, major Taiwanese securities, with globalization, hope to expand business. They optimistically set out the global layout. Securities Company C just has the opportunity to enter one Vietnam securities enterprise, now a branch of Securities Company C, which may be an important multinational business case study for the Taiwan securities industry in the securities market. From the management level, Vietnam Branch belonging to Securities Company C may face challenges, such as cultural differences, different value cognition, language and communication disorders, which are severe tests. In the scale, scope, and visibility, domestic securities enterprises can not be compared with those of developed countries in Vietnam. Therefore this study explores the possibility of transferring Taiwan information management system abroad and eventually helps Securities Company C¡¦s overseas branch to enhance competence. Securities Company C in Taiwan is famous as an electronic securities corporation, and well-known for the information management system. Now in Vietnam, as we know, larger securities enterprises are either state-owned or professionally foreign capital-managed; the smaller ones are owned by local powerful celebrities with abundant financial resource. Therefore it is not easy for Securities Company C¡¦s Vietnam Branch to compete. This study is to find the possible solution by analyzing all the aspects of this Vietnamese enterprise and transferring Taiwan information management system. It is believed that in near future the Vietnam Branch of Securities Company C can take more advantage in Vietnamese stock market for development and core competitiveness. Therefore, in this study, specific property information applications of securities industry are trying to be transferred to Vietnam Branch. Moreover by SWOT and Five Forces analysis viewed as the successful factors of Vietnam securities, Taiwan securities industry becomes more competitive in Vietnam, not to mention the fact that Taiwan is Vietnam's largest foreign investment country. Anatomy of a financial center's global competitiveness in the context of Michael Porter's model of national competitive advantage a theoretical analysis

Magpantay, Josef Joachim L. 01 August 2011 (has links)
Throughout history, a number of financial centers have risen and fallen. While the significance of some centers have deteriorated, a small number of centers have emerged as today's leading financial centers by meeting a specific set of necessary conditions needed to successfully address the growing financial needs of the regions they are located. Furthermore, an even smaller number of financial centers have been able to sustain and expand their initial dominance in the financial industry by continuously satisfying a more focused set of conditions and factors. This thesis focuses on adapting Michael Porter's Diamond Model in determining, clustering, and expanding key factors that have historically given cities such as London, New York, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Tokyo their current status at the pinnacle of the financial centers of the world. This thesis begins by taking Porter's model that addresses national competitive advantage nations from a macroeconomic point of view, and adapting it to the development of financial centers at a microeconomic level. It utilizes Michael Porter's established grouping corners for identifying a vast array of macroeconomic and microeconomic factors that have historically played critical roles in increasing productivity and efficiency within a center's financial industry. Additionally, this thesis categorizes these factors into parameters that form a theoretical model designed to showcase the path to global financial dominance for an aspiring financial center. With the adaptation of Porter's model outlined in this thesis, financial centers are given a figurative blueprint of what constitutes a successful financial center. The theoretical model analyzes the necessary conditions and environments that a center needs to recreate within itself, or are endowed with, in order to be a globally competitive financial center.

Disruptive Transformations in Health Care: Technological Innovation and the Acute Care General Hospital

Lucas, D. Pulane 24 April 2013 (has links)
Advances in medical technology have altered the need for certain types of surgery to be performed in traditional inpatient hospital settings. Less invasive surgical procedures allow a growing number of medical treatments to take place on an outpatient basis. Hospitals face growing competition from ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs). The competitive threats posed by ASCs are important, given that inpatient surgery has been the cornerstone of hospital services for over a century. Additional research is needed to understand how surgical volume shifts between and within acute care general hospitals (ACGHs) and ASCs. This study investigates how medical technology within the hospital industry is changing medical services delivery. The main purposes of this study are to (1) test Clayton M. Christensen’s theory of disruptive innovation in health care, and (2) examine the effects of disruptive innovation on appendectomy, cholecystectomy, and bariatric surgery (ACBS) utilization. Disruptive innovation theory contends that advanced technology combined with innovative business models—located outside of traditional product markets or delivery systems—will produce simplified, quality products and services at lower costs with broader accessibility. Consequently, new markets will emerge, and conventional industry leaders will experience a loss of market share to “non-traditional” new entrants into the marketplace. The underlying assumption of this work is that ASCs (innovative business models) have adopted laparoscopy (innovative technology) and their unification has initiated disruptive innovation within the hospital industry. The disruptive effects have spawned shifts in surgical volumes from open to laparoscopic procedures, from inpatient to ambulatory settings, and from hospitals to ASCs. The research hypothesizes that: (1) there will be larger increases in the percentage of laparoscopic ACBS performed than open ACBS procedures; (2) ambulatory ACBS will experience larger percent increases than inpatient ACBS procedures; and (3) ASCs will experience larger percent increases than ACGHs. The study tracks the utilization of open, laparoscopic, inpatient and ambulatory ACBS. The research questions that guide the inquiry are: 1. How has ACBS utilization changed over this time? 2. Do ACGHs and ASCs differ in the utilization of ACBS? 3. How do states differ in the utilization of ACBS? 4. Do study findings support disruptive innovation theory in the hospital industry? The quantitative study employs a panel design using hospital discharge data from 2004 and 2009. The unit of analysis is the facility. The sampling frame is comprised of ACGHs and ASCs in Florida and Wisconsin. The study employs exploratory and confirmatory data analysis. This work finds that disruptive innovation theory is an effective model for assessing the hospital industry. The model provides a useful framework for analyzing the interplay between ACGHs and ASCs. While study findings did not support the stated hypotheses, the impact of government interventions into the competitive marketplace supports the claims of disruptive innovation theory. Regulations that intervened in the hospital industry facilitated interactions between ASCs and ACGHs, reducing the number of ASCs performing ACBS and altering the trajectory of ACBS volume by shifting surgeries from ASCs to ACGHs.
