This research aims to expand it into its relevance to think about social exclusion, in order to understand it in its complexity and contradictions, including its transmutation into social inclusion. It it discussed here the perverse dialectic exclusion/inclusion, on the direction to reaffirm its contradictory and ambiguous character. By Socio-Historical perspective of social psychology, it is assumed morality as an historical process, using Vygotsky as the main theoretical framework to guide the understanding of the dialectic between objectivity and subjectivity. Thus, the objective of this research is to make a psychosocial analysis of the presence of morality into the processes of perverse exclusion/inclusion, putting into featured the importance of affection. This research was realized among an inspiration field - the 31st Bienal (in São Paulo, Brazil), in which was presented different forms of arts, representing situations in Brazil -and South America- that morality, exclusion, suffering, invisibilities, are the main factor. As well as contributing to voice an urgency for social change. The art work related to sexuality and gender, on this Bienal, was chosen for this work to illustrate crystallized and moral values, along with Queer Theory by Judith Butler to support it. Besides of observation, it was interviewed curators of the Biennial and a Brazilian artist, who performs a street-art in Paris in order to shake the Parisian morality, with works depicting drag queens and that relates to gender discussion, in which the theory queer proposes as well. The results from these interviews showed art as a way to interfere in the historical and cultural process time, giving visibility to situations of marginalization, inequality and moral matters. This research also approached art as a social instrument of emotions, based on considerations of Vygotsky in Psychology of Arts. It was realized, as well during these interviews, the possible potential of art as transgressive in order to perceive it as a possible way to provoke and contribute to social transformation. It was noticed a possibility of art to exist as a transgression, but not as a duty, imperative. It may be noted that it could not assign an ethical responsibility for being transgressive, but rather to empower an individual and collective look for transformations / O tema da moral percorre diferentes questões atuais e aparece como um conceito pouco aprofundado. Esta pesquisa visa ampliar sua pertinência adentro dos processos de exclusão social, de forma a compreendê-lo na sua complexidade e contraditoriedade, inclusive a sua transmutação em inclusão social. Aborda-se aqui a dialética exclusão/inclusão perversa, a fim de reafirmar seu caráter contraditório e ambíguo. Através da perspectiva Sócio-Histórica da Psicologia Social, admite-se a moral como um processo histórico e cultual, utilizando Vigotski como principal referência teórica para nortear a compreensão da dialética entre objetividade e subjetividade. Desta forma, o objetivo desta pesquisa é fazer uma análise psicossocial sobre a presença da moral em processos de exclusão/inclusão perversa, acentuando, assim, a importância dos afetos para atingir tal dimensão. A pesquisa teve como escopo a 31ª Bienal, que apresentou diferentes formas de inclusão excludente, além de contribuir para dar voz a uma urgência por transformação social. Dentre as questões polemicas abordadas pela Bienal, destacou-se obras de temáticas relacionadas a sexualidade e gênero, para se pensar acerca de uma norma heteronomatizante que promove valores cristalizados e morais. Além da observação da exposição, foram entrevistados curadores desta Bienal e um artista brasileiro que realiza um street-art em Paris, a fim de provocar a moral parisiense com obras que retratam drag-queens e suscitam uma discussão de gênero próxima a que a teoria queer propõe. Os dados destas entrevistas mostraram a arte como uma forma de se entrelaçar ao processo histórico e cultural de um tempo, dando visibilidade a situações de marginalização e desigualdade e a moral. Esta pesquisa, deste modo, também abordou a arte como um instrumento social das emoções, tendo como base as considerações de Vigotski em Psicologia da Arte. Abordou-se nestas entrevistas sobre um possível potencial da arte enquanto transgressora, de forma a percebê-la como uma forma possível de provocar e contribuir para uma transformação social. Percebeu-se uma possibilidade de a arte existir como transgressão, mas não como um dever, imperativo. Pode-se notar que não se poderia atribuir uma responsabilidade ética e transgressora da arte, mas, sim, de potencializar um olhar individual e coletivo para transformações

Detta samhällsansvar kallas ofta för CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) även på svenska men ofta är ett mer relevant begrepp ”samhällsansvar” eller ”socialt ansvar”.</p><p>• Vi vill ta reda på varför och hur företag arbetar med CSR.</p><p>• Syftet med vår undersökning är att få en djupare förståelse för vad CSR är.</p><p>• Vad CSR har för betydelser för företag i dagens samhälle.</p><p>• Vad CSR får för påverkan på företagens bild utåt sett och dess ekonomiska vinning på grund av att ta socialt ansvar.</p><p>Metod: Vi har använt oss av hermeneutikens förhållningssätt där tolkning står för huvudsaken i studien. En blandning av induktiv och deduktiv ansats har använts och undersökningen bygger på en kvalitativ metod med intervju som grund. Vi beskriver även arbetets validitet och reliabilitet.</p><p>Resultat & slutsats: Vi anser att vi genom denna undersökning fått en djupare och bredare bild av vad CSR är och vad den har för betydelse för dagens samhälle och dess affärsverksamhet. This investigation is based on a qualitative approach with an interview as its main component. We also describe this study’s validity and reliability.</p><p>Result & Conclusions: We feel that through this study we have gained a deeper and more thorough understanding of what CSR is and what it means to today’s society and its businesses. We have formed a image of how Coop Konsum works with CSR and what this means for their business. In our opinion they do not work with CSR to get a better economic result.</p><p>Suggestions for future research: Our limitations have been that we only accomplished one interview. A deeper understanding in this subject would demand more investigations.</p><p>Contribution of the thesis: The information we received from our interview with the director of Coop-Konsum Gävleborg can contribute to deeper knowledge on how cooperative businesses work with CSR and what the importance of this is.</p>

<p>The purpose of this essay is to analyze the view on sexuality held by Sweden’s first woman doctor Karolina Widerström, by using ideologycritical textanalysis on the written scriptures of dr. Widerström that focus on sexualpolitics. In doing this I use the theory of speech by Foucault. In this study I focus on Widerström’s scriptures, what she wrote about, how she wrote about it but also what she couldn't write due to the historical context and how omission can still speak of power. I mean that Widerström intentionally tried to write about immoral subjects in a moral way and that her sexualpolitic scriptures give a rare expression of a positive view on sexuality, which is even clearer in comparison with Elizabeth Blackwell, another woman doctor and gynaecologist active in USA. By examining the threats and ideals in their works I come to the conclusion that Widerström’s view on sexuality as beautiful, natural and positive is very different from Blackwell’s point of view.</p>

Have you no sense of decency? Morals clauses, communists and the legal fight against blacklisting in the entertainment industry during the post-war eraBruce, Robert Erik, 1965- 26 January 2011 (has links)
Anti-communism in America reached its apex in the 1950s. One element of this crusade focused on preventing suspected communists from working in their chosen profession, a practice called blacklisting. In attempting to assert their legal rights, the blacklisted found an imperfect justice system, cloaked in equality, yet hampered by the existing cultural setting that treated as immoral anything communist. This dissertation deconstructs the interplay between culture and law, between the desire to root out communists and the attempt to maintain a fair legal system. With an emphasis on the entertainment industry, broadly defined, I will trace blacklisting from anti-labor tool to for-profit instrument focusing on how the blacklisted employed the lawsuit to fight for their jobs. I argue that from the late 1940s through the mid-1960s, blacklisted plaintiffs continuously found themselves handicapped by their association -- either current or past, real or perceived -- with the Communist Party, and not until a plaintiff with no demonstrable ties to communism came along did the legal system prove a comprehensively effective tool in ending the practice. I show that various members of the blacklisted community, with the aid of a small number of lawyers, tried an assortment of legal theories in their attempt to remedy their pariah status with the results often promising -- the first three jury trials ended in victories for the plaintiffs -- but ultimately hollow as a recalcitrant appellate judiciary dashed these early hopes. Moreover, I show how plaintiff's lawyers, sensitive to a legal system that demanded a successful plaintiff be free of communist ties, adjusted their strategy to accommodate the relationship between cultural setting and legal success. / text

The word become fiction : textual voices from the evangelical subculture / Textual voices from the evangelical subcultureStedman, Barbara A. January 1994 (has links)
Between 1979 and 1994, conservative, Protestant Christian fiction, or simply "evangelical fiction," has burgeoned into a powerful literary representative of America's modern evangelical subculture. This study examines that phenomenon by combining: (a) close textual analysis of the novels, particularly novels written by two important evangelical novelists--Janette Oke, romance writer, and Frank Peretti, author of supernatural thrillers; (b) analysis of the reading habits and tastes of 218 readers of evangelical fiction in the Muncie, Indiana, area by way of questionnaire responses and also follow-up interviews with 75 of those respondents; and (c) careful investigation of the cultural context in which these novels are written, published, and read.One particular issue investigated is whether readers read these novels primarily for entertainment or for spiritual edification. On one hand, these novels fit into the category of "popular" fiction and therefore meet readers' needs for entertainment, albeit entertainment that is consistent with evangelicals' theology, lifestyle, and world view. On the other hand, these novels fill readers' needs for edification, for overt religious support and teaching, for perpetuation of what evangelicals already believe. They are, in Roland Barthes' words, examples of doxa, i.e., history transformed into nature.Another special issue investigated is the role that these novels play in the battle against mainstream secular culture. In particular, Oke's novels function as cultural preservers, particularly of nineteenth-century models for the family, morality, and unworldliness; and Peretti's novels function as cultural combatants, actively naming and attacking secular enemies, especially the New Age movement and abortion industry.The study concludes that evangelical fiction not only reflects evangelical subculture, but also affects it; that the genre has undergone dramatic changes from 1979 to 1994 and that publishers, writers, and readers are calling for more sophisticated fiction. However, evangelical fiction, as a cultural expression, falls within what is sometimes called the "evangelical ghetto" and, since evangelicalism is a religious orthodoxy, the fiction will have difficulty emerging from that ghetto. / Department of English

Of vice and men : a virtue ethics study of Steinbeck's The pearl, East of Eden, and The winter of our discontentGeorge, Stephen K. January 1995 (has links)
As a writer and thinker, John Steinbeck has often been ridiculed by the academic community as trite and sentimental--someone who appeals to the masses but has little to say on life's "important" issues. This study applies an interdisciplinary approach to three of his later novels--The Pearl, East of Eden, and The Winter of Our Discontent--in order to more accurately assess the quality of Steinbeck's later fiction and to discover what this writer has to say concerning ethics and human nature, particularly the irrational emotions and vices.In concurrence with some of the latest research available, this study reveals that the emotions play a far greater role within the moral realm than previously believed by some philosophers and psychologists. Irrational emotions, such as extreme fear, anger, hatred, and guilt, are often sequential, cyclical, and cumulative in nature and frequently form dynamic combinations which feed on and intensify each other and which may lead to acts of violence or cruelty. Moreover, far from being uncontrollable, these emotions have been shown to have a cognitive dimension which is greatly influenced by upbringing and environment. As indicated in East of Eden, parental neglect and abuse play prominent roles in making certain characters susceptible to their own states of irrationality.The emotions are also primary to the development of more permanent character dispositions, both good and bad. As illustrated in East of Eden's Cathy Ames, a vice such as cruelty is often motivated and enabled by the fear and hatred that frequently form its core. Moreover, the vices themselves seem to be interactive and cumulatively debilitating; just as dishonesty plays a key role in enabling cruelty and loss of integrity, so does a lack of integrity make sense in a morally weak world.Thus, contrary to popular critical opinion, there was no dramatic falling off of quality in Steinbeck's writing, but rather a deliberate change in emphasis from social criticism to morality and from the group to the individual. This study confirms both the importance of what Steinbeck had to say as well as the eloquent and gifted manner in which he said it. / Department of English

The title of the research is "Ethical codes for training staff in South African Collieries -a case study". The research was conducted in coal mining training centres in the Free State,
Gauteng and the Mpumulanga provinces of South Africa.
The objective of the research was to examine ethical codes currently in place internationally and locally. Based on this research the research was then focused on its contribution to the human resource development arena. South African coal mining training centres staff were interviewed regarding how they perceived ethical codes and ethical conduct and the importance of these concepts to their daily work lives.
It was found that training staff were aware of ethical behaviour and conduct. Factors such as age, the type of professional association a person belongs to were found to be significant.
Recommendations were made regarding further research on ethical conduct in other mining products, companies a for human resource development practises. / Thesis (M.Ed.)--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2010.
