[pt] ESTRUTURA E LIMINARIDADE: UM ESTUDO SOBRE A FOFOCA NO BRASIL / [en] STRUCTURE AND LIMINALITY: A STUDY ON GOSSIP IN BRAZILISLA ANTONELLO TERRANA DE M B BRITO 23 December 2020 (has links)
[en] This Thesis addresses gossip as a communicative phenomenon, investigating, specifically, its social and cultural significance in Brazil. The theoretical analysis focuses on three main aspects: (1) the situational dynamics of the pragmatically constitutive elements of an action characterized as gossip; (2) the recurrence of the contents of messages exchanged under this name and under other semantic variants and (3) the concrete uses of gossip as an instrument in social practice. Once defined as a general phenomenon, I begin to appreciate the specific dynamics of gossip in Brazil. Thus, I analyze its relevance based on the notion of liminality according to Victor Turner, considering certain events in which gossip manifests itself in a culture marked by strong oral predominance, hierarchical fixity and relational transit.

An Exploration of Impostor Phenomenon among African American Women in Educational Leadership RolesDumas, Simonè Marquise 08 1900 (has links)
African American women in educational leadership roles face a myriad of barriers and challenges. Black feminist theory and impostor phenomenon theory offered a potent conceptual lens for understanding the experiences of successful African American women. A qualitative phenomenological study was conducted to examine and explore strategies that African American women use to (a) navigate the impostor phenomenon in relation to career mobility, and (b) identify and understand how social constructs in educational leadership organizations can contribute to their experiences. The research also examined the historical and contemporary problems of subjugation, oppression, racism, and sexism as narrated by 12 African American women who are in educational leadership roles. Data collected from the participants were triangulated and analyzed thematically resulting in six themes: (1) experiences of being questioned and undermined by superiors; (2) experiences of other people's perceptions about African American female leaders; (3) the need for a mentor; (4) giving others a chance to question them; (5) intentional self-care; and (6) lack of support from leaders and mentors. It is recommended that those who work within the education systems focus on acquiring an understanding of the internal struggles African American women navigate in response to systemic, external challenges, so they can better support these women in terms of career mobility and give more attention to retaining them in educational leadership roles.

"Perspektivets betydelse för suicid som fenomen" : -diskursen om suicid och dess ideologiska konsekvenser för socialt arbete med suicidprevention / "The importance of perspective for suicide as a phenomenon" : -the discourse on suicide and its ideological consequences for social work with suicide preventionOlsson, Jessica January 2023 (has links)
In 2023 a committee directive was published by the Swedish government regarding a review of certain issues in the field of suicide prevention. The study aims to analyze the understanding of suicide as a phenomenon to explore how suicide is constructed through discourse and discuss the ideological consequences for social work. This will hopefully deepen the understanding of the suicide and suicide prevention in a Swedish context. The study adopts a social constructivist approach, and the research design was qualitative with Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) paradigm. Research data in the study was two government documents regarding suicide and suicide prevention. The data was analyzed according to Fairclough’s three-dimensional model: through text, through discursive practice and through social practice in a sociocultural context using Foucault’s term power-knowledge. The study discusses the implications of the findings in a wider political and social meaning. The research finds that the competing discourses on suicide in Sweden exists within the structural perspective of understanding the phenomenon, with features of economic-, medical- and individual -discourse and that there is a shift in social politics moving away from the individual and medical/pathologic discourse on suicide. The implications for social work are concluded to be future suicide preventive interventions designed for social services, and furthermore a broader take on individuals with suicidal thoughts and tendencies.

"lif och eld" : Carolina Müller, som fenomen på Kungliga teaternVogel, Anette January 2022 (has links)
”vivid and fiery”
Carolina Müller as phenomenon at the Royal Theatre Carolina Müller is identical with the Royal Theatre and she was the first professional female opera singer in Sweden. The audience’s perception of her stage personality and her agency in her portrayal of the title role in C. W. Gluck’s opera Alceste at the Stockholm opera in 1781 will throw light on her quality; her singing and acting style according to the affect she created on stage linked to the age of sensibility. Carolina Müller’s agency constitutes a gap in Swedish theatre history which will be examined in order to reach a better understanding of the structures behind her position. Willmar Sauter’s concept of the theatrical event, but with a feministic perspective on the role of the actress, is used to analyze her performativity, which I characterize as both passionate and sentimental. I use historical descriptive sources to understand her stage personality, and I will look into her performance of Alceste from the perspective of late eighteenth century acting. Secondly, I look into the prescriptive sources linked to Alceste, to examine how her stage personality affected the production, she had a great impact on the creation of the opera characters written for her after her Alceste. Finally, I highlight how the European exchange allowed her to emerge as a phenomenon. Telling her story is a contribution to the history of the prima donnas of the north, and thereby to the field of feminist historiography.
