Recently, the interest and research about energy harvesting has been increasing substantially in the technical-scientific community. With the great world demand for electrical energy, many researchers, in Brazil and in the World, have concentrated their efforts to seek new energy sources. In addition, with the technological advances is possible to use low-power consumption devices, that are, most of time, powered by a battery, which are limited energy sources having the necessity of recharging or substituting them periodically. In the energy harvesting process, the electrical energy is obtained through the conversion of mechanical energy created by a vibrating source in the environment using a transducer. Among the most common energy transduction mean, the use of piezoelectric materials has been of great interest in the energy harvesting matter due to its ease of application and its use to harvest energy in a wide range of frequencies. Vibration sources in the environment may occur in structures by vehicle traffics, a train movement, sea waves and even people. With that, the objective of this work is to study the energy harvesting using a nonlinear two-degrees-of-freedom portal frame platform with a nonlinear piezoelectric material coupled to one of its columns and externally base-excited. The nonlinear platform possesses two-to-one internal resonance between its two vibration modes. The nonlinearities of the piezoelectric material is considered as a nonlinear mathematical relation. Moreover, this work is separated in two parts to the analysis of the external excitations. In the first part, a harmonic force base-exciting the system is considered. In the second part is considered an electro-dynamical shaker with harmonic output. The employed methodology to carry out the analysis of this work was: the application of the method of multiple scales to find the best configuration of the parameters, and to find some kind of phenomena due to the two-to-one internal resonance; in the following were carried out several numerical simulations using the method of Runge-Kutta of 4th and 5th order with variable step seeking to optimize the energy harvesting through parametrical variations, bifurcation diagrams, FFTs, time histories and other typos of simulations. In general, it will be done two much important comparisons: the influence of the nonlinearity of the piezoelectric material and the use of the harmonic force and the shaker to the energy harvesting. The results showed great influence of the nonlinearity of the material, and using the electro-dynamical device it was possible to have a considerably gain in the system stability.

Proteção diferencial de transformadores trifásicos utilizando a transformada wavelet

Oliveira, Mario Orlando January 2009 (has links)
Power supply quality and continuity are very important aspect when assessing the efficiency of an electric power system. In this context, the transformers are key equipments that require special attention during the protection scheme design. Despite the increasing development of methodologies for three-phase transformers protection, some aspects have not yet been fully studied. One of these aspects concerns to the differential protection of power transformers, which presents several restrictions regarding the characterization of internal faults. The observation of differential currents caused by transient phenomena such as transformer energization, produces an incorrect operation of protective relaying, causing a drop in the protection scheme efficiency. Therefore, this work presents a new methodology for differential protection of three-phase transformers using the wavelet transform to extract the transient signals induced by the dominant internal faults. The wavelet transform is an efficient tool in the study of non-stationary signals with fast transients. In order to overcome the main problems of the traditional protection scheme, the discrete wavelet transform is used to decompose the differential current signals into several bands of frequencies. After this decomposition, the spectral energy variation of the wavelet detail coefficients is analyzed by the proposed algorithm and, thus, classification between internal faults, external faults and inrush currents is performed. Using a transmission system model, accurate simulations are performed to evaluate the computational performance of the proposed protection algorithm. The results obtained in these simulations show that the proposed methodology has a great performance when compared with traditional protection philosophies.

Modelos de mapas simpléticos para o movimento de deriva elétrica com efeitos de raio de Larmor finito / Area-Preserving Maps Models of the Electric Drift Motion with Finite Larmor Radius Effects

Júlio César David da Fonseca 10 May 2016 (has links)
Area-preserving maps have been extensively used to model chaotic transport in plasmas and fluids. In this work we propose three types of maps describing electric drift motion in magnetized plasmas. Finite Larmor radius effects are included in all maps. In the limit of zero Larmor radius, the monotonic frequency map reduces to the Chirikov-Taylor map, and, in cases with non-monotonic frequencies, the maps reduce to the standard nontwist map. We show how the finite Larmor radius can lead to chaos suppression, modify the phase space topology and the robustness of transport barriers. A method based on counting the number of recurrence times is used to quantify the dependence on the Larmor radius of the threshold for the breakup of transport barriers. We also study a model for a system of particles where the electric drift is described by the monotonic frequency map, and the Larmor radius is a random variable that takes a specific value for each particle of the system. The Larmor radius\' probability density function is obtained from the Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution, which characterizes plasmas in thermal equilibrium. An important parameter in this model is the random variable gamma, defined by the zero-order Bessel function evaluated at the Larmor radius\'particle. We show analytical and numerical computations related to the statistics of gamma. The set of analytical results obtained here is then applied to the study of two numerical transport measures: the escape rate and the rate of trapping by period-one islands.

Not for Sale : Terminology and cultural references in a text on human trafficking

Björk, Anna January 2013 (has links)
The aim of this paper is to analyse what strategies may be the most suitable ones when dealing with problems in the translation of a text on human trafficking. The focus of the study is how to translate terminology related to human trafficking, but also on how to deal with references to culture-specific phenomena. In order to find possible solutions for translation problems in the text, different dictionaries and term banks were used, as well as parallel texts and different translation strategies.           The analysis is based on the translation strategies laid down by Vinay and Darbelnet, Ingo and Newmark. The findings of the study show that a number of different translation strategies had to be applied in order to solve the different translation problems. Regarding the translation of terminology, modulation, equivalence, addition and omission were the most useful strategies, as well as using parallel texts. The strategies found most useful in translating culture-specific phenomena were modulation, equivalence and addition, but componential analysis, transference and established translations were also used. Factors that decided what were the most appropriate strategies to apply in the different instances were the aim of the text, the perspective of the target reader and parallel texts.

Ultrafast infrared spectroscopy applied to spin crossover materials / Spectroscopie infrarouge ultrarapide appliquée aux matériaux présentant un changement d'état de spin

Dong, Xu 18 December 2017 (has links)
The past few decades have seen great advancements in technology that allow us to capture the picture of a physical process, as the adage “seeing is believing” implies how people understand the world. The increasing temporal resolution of lasers played an important role in the study of materials, among which materials exhibiting photo-induced phase transition are of great importance thanks to their potential for future applications. However, as we proceed further and further in the investigation of the mechanism of phase transition, we found ourselves confronted with the very complex nature of phase transition dynamics. It is intrinsically multi-scale in time and space, from femtosecond to days and from atomic dimensions to macroscopic distances. Time resolved experiments disentangle different degrees of freedom and different phenomena in a step-like manner, rather than providing a statistical average. The first step is photo induced due to absorption of photons, the second step (elastic step) is pressure induced due to volume dilation, and the third step is temperature induced due to dissipation of heat. This step-like approach offers an opportunity to understand the mechanism, so that we could effectively impact the materials and possibly control phase transition. Mid IR lasers have a unique advantage of monitoring phase transition through vibrational modes on specific molecular sites. Implementing ultrafast mid IR spectroscopy in phase transition materials should be therefore very insightful in discovering new phenomena and revealing hidden mechanism. This PhD project, focusing on mid IR technique, started exactly in this context. The main effort is dedicated to the application of ultrafast mid IR spectroscopy to the spin crossover solids, [Fe(3-MeO-SalEen)]2PF6. The major challenge in this work was to comprehend the shape of transient mid IR spectra. We found out that this is conceptually different from the experiences accumulated in UV/VIS spectroscopy. A suitable model had to be developed, separating the transient IR spectra into two contributions: spectral weight transfer and spectral shift. I demonstrated that these two components are sensitive to the spin change and pressure effect (volume dilation), respectively. Data analysis based on the new model shows consistency with previously published results. On the ultrafast timescale, more difficult to fit our model to, vibrational cooling (VC) of electronically hot HS state has been very well resolved. To the best of my knowledge, direct observation of VC in solid state SCO compound by IR spectroscopy has not been reported earlier.

La constitutionnalisation du droit pénal roumain et français : étude de droit comparé / The constitutionalization of Romanian and French criminal law : comparative law study

Iftimiei, Andra 08 November 2014 (has links)
The chosen topic sets forward the interest of an interdisciplinaryapproach as well as the approach from the perspective of comparative law, thusconferring originality, but also an innovating vision on the intersection of two lawbranches. We propose the analysis of criminal law constitutionalization due to thegeneral trend in which criminal law is equally subscribed, namely that ofinternationalization, Europeanization and constitutionalization of law. Moreover, thestudy of the two law branches is relevant given the highly intimate connectionsbetween them, through rendering more effective the protection of fundamental rightsand liberties. As research method we subscribed the entire thesis to a well-known method ofRomanian and French university school which embraces a new binary structure:problematization – solutions or hypothesis – demonstrations. The problem orhypothesis raised by the thesis is ”What is the starting point and how does the process of constitutionalization of the criminal law acts/functions?”, implicitlyadmitting the existence of such a phenomenon. The solutions or demonstrations arereflected as answers to the central questions, forged on the research plan of thethesis: highlighting the relations between criminal law and the Constitution, respectively of the means of constitutionalization and the effects of this phenomenon.Following the principles exposed by Legal Sociology regarding the integration of aprocess in the limits of a phenomenon, we reached the conclusion that in the case ofconstitutionalization, it fulfills all necessary requirements in order to be catalogued assuch. An argument in this respect is represented by the spread of this phenomenonboth from the spatial perspective (being encountered both in the European space aswell as in the international space) and from the perspective of the branches of law, which are subject to the process of constitutionalization (accordingly, we identified aseries of illustrations from Administrative Law, Labor Law, Economic Law, EuropeanLaw of Contracts or the Right to a Healthy Environment). The crystallization of the constitutionalization notion is carried out by reporting toother terms, so as to configure the delimitation of the concept. In order to delimit theconcept of constitutionalization we conducted a reporting to codification, constitutionalism, conventionality and constitutionality, underlining the existingdiscrepancies between these terms. It is estimated that there are seven stages ofconstitutionalization: 1) rigid constitution, 2) jurisdictional guaranteeing of theConstitution, 3) the compulsory force of the Constitution, 4) ”over-interpretation” ofthe Constitution, 5) interpretation of laws in accordance with the Constitution, 6)direct application of constitutional norms, 7) influence of the Constitution on politicalreports. The binary structure of the doctorate thesis proposes the analysis of theconstitutionalization phenomenon from a dual perspective: the premises ofconstitutionalization (materialized in the supremacy of the Constitution, theconstitutional grounds of criminal law, as well as constitutional guarantees in criminalmatters), and the proper constitutionalization of criminal law (which we equallystructured on the means of achievement of constitutionalization and the effects of thisphenomenon).
