Grimes, Chrysophyllum flexuosum Mart., Ficus pulchella Schott ex Spreng., Macrotorus utriculatus Perkins, Myrceugenia myrcioides (Cambess.) O.Berg, Rudgea interrupta Benth e Urbanodendron bahiense (Meisn.) Rohwer. (3,40%), Hyeronima alchorneoides Allemão (2,83%), Actinostemon verticillatus (Klotzsch) Baill. (2,55%), Psychotria brasiliensis Vell. (2,55%), Eriotheca pentaphylla (Vell.) A. Robyns (2,28%), Guatteria australis A. St.-Hil. (2,12%), Mabea brasiliensis Müll. Arg. (2,04%), Miconia prasina (Sw.) DC. (1,89%) e Rustia formosa (Cham. & Schltdl. ex DC.) Klotzsch (1,82%). / The study has as purpose to evaluate the floristic and structural composition of shrub-arboreal component in the submontane forest patch within the Atlantic Rain Forest domain with different stages of natural regeneration, in the southeast slope at the State Park of Ilha Grande, RJ. For the floristic studies were realized unsystematic samples in different parts in this slope. The species list was complemented with the conference at herbarium collections of the Rio de Janeiro (FCAB, GUA, HB, HRJ, R, RB, RBR, RFA, RFFP e RUSU) and with the results obtained of phytosociological studies. The conservation status of recorded species was verified for the Brazilian Flora. 34 plots of samples were set out for the phytosociological studies, totaling 1.02 ha of sampled area. All shrubby-arboreous individuals with DAP ≥ 5 cm were registered and, after identification, were deposited in the Herbarium of the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (HRJ). The statistical package FITOPAC 2.1. was used for data analysis. The similarity between the remaining investigated in this study and fourteen others from different areas of Rio de Janeiro, of llha Grande's itself or not, was evaluated using the similarity coefficient of Sorensen; by Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmetic Mean (UPGMA) criterion and by the auto-resampling method for the structure of groups; by using the programs PAST v1.34 and Multiv 2.4. From the survey in herbariums and from floristic and phytosociological inventories carried in this paper, were examined 3,470 registers: 1,778 of the survey in herbariums, 1,536 of phytosociological and 156 of floristic studies. These registers corresponded to 606 species or morpho-species of Angiosperms and one of Pteridophyte. The results revealed the existence of 22 species threatened by extinction for Brazilian Flora. From among which, seven are exclusive of phytosociological sampling: Abarema cochliacarpos (Gomes) Barneby & J.W. Grimes, Chrysophyllum flexuosum Mart., Ficus pulchella Schott ex Spreng., Macrotorus utriculatus Perkins, Myrceugenia myrcioides (Cambess.) O.Berg, Rudgea interrupta Benth and Urbanodendron bahiense (Meisn.) Rohwer. In phytosociological study, were inventoried 1,536 individuals of 217 species, subordinate to 53 families. The Shannon diversity indices (H ') calculated was 4,702 nats/ind and equability (J) of 0.874. The ten families with highest richness were: Myrtaceae (31 spp.), Rubiaceae (21), Fabaceae (17), Lauraceae (12), Euphorbiaceae (11), Monimiaceae (8), Melastomataceae (7), Sapindaceae (7), Sapotaceae (6) and Annonaceae (6). The 10 highest values for species importance were for Chrysophyllum flexuosum (3,43%), Lamanonia ternata Vell. (3,40%), Hyeronima alchorneoides Allemão (2,83%), Actinostemon verticillatus (Klotzsch) Baill. (2,55%), Psychotria brasiliensis Vell. (2,55%), Eriotheca pentaphylla (Vell.) A. Robyns (2,28%), Guatteria australis A. St.-Hil. (2,12%), Mabea brasiliensis Müll. Arg. (2,04%), Miconia prasina (Sw.) DC. (1,89%) and Rustia formosa (Cham. & Schltdl. ex DC.) Klotzsch (1,82%). Were sampled 27% species represented by only one individual. The Floristic analyzes evaluated from the Sorensen Similarity Index indicated as the main variables for the formation of blocks, the different values of diversity for the areas and the phytogeographical distribution of species. The results obtained along with data from ecological groups, for individuals of the phytosociology, indicated a higher percentage of secondaries tardy individuals sampled. It Concludes that the study area is a secondary forest in regeneration intermediate stage, with great richness of species, many of which with relevant ecological importance

The objective of this work was the completion of the census of five native tree species in the forest area of savanah, and subsequent implementation and evaluation of sampling methods employed in phytosociological surveys. The characteristics of frequency, density and dominance absolutes were estimated and observed the dispersion of juveniles relative to the nearest matrix. An area of 75,000 m2 was previously selected in the Santa Madalena farm, district of Itahum, city of Dourados, MS, Brazil, located at coordinates 22o09'07.57" S and 54o59'55.43" O to 483 m high, and divided into 30 smaller areas of 50 x 50 meters to facilitate the identification, marking, counting, measuring and checking of tree evaluated. Species considered due to the high extraction for presenting therapeutic capabilities, were Anadenanthera falcata (Bth) Speg (angico-preto-do-cerrado), Bauhinia holophyla (Bong.) Stend (falsa-pata-de-vaca), Dimorfanda mollis Benth (faveiro-do-cerrado), Duguetia furfuraceae (St. Hil.) B. et H. (araticum-do-cerrado) and Tabebuia aurea (Manso) B. et H. (para-tudo). Were collected Circumference at Breast Height - CBH, canopy diameter and georeferenced position. The diameter of the canopy was estimated from the average of the largest diameter and the other transverse to it, allowing the estimation of the mean radius, which was then transformed into area pantries to estimate the coverage area CA of each species. The CBH was used for calculation of dominance parameter affect the basal area. The frequency was calculated as the number of individuals observed and the number of areas in which the species occurred, and the density was expressed as number of individuals per unit area (acres). Values of frequency, density and dominances relatives were used to calculate the Importance Value Index - IVI. The data georeferencing were launched in Software AutoCad generated six maps in scale 1:400, being a general map and five, one for each species evaluated. The maps were divided into quadrants for analysis of dispersion and sampling strategies from them were established with variation of the area sampled to evaluate the effectiveness of different sampling systems used in phytosociological surveys in forest savannah. 549 individuals were found with CBH above 0.02 m being the species with the highest number araticum (155 individuals), and falsa-pata-de-vaca the lowest occurrence (9 individuals). The CA was generated by five species of 922.959 m2 ha-1, this being 476.832 m2 ha-1 refers to angico and only 3.289 m2 ha-1 for the falsa-pata-de-vaca. The angico still showed higher dominance (1.212) and IVI (103.560), and falsa-pata-de-vaca only 0.003 of dominance and IVI of 5.22. CBH values were transformed in diameter at breast height - DBH and distributed into five classes in order to investigate their distribution according to age groups, and it was found that the class of younger subjects, there was suppression of the species, indicating strong impacting action and electing distribution in age classes as an important tool for understanding the phenological state of the forest. Treatments faced with the census sampling methods were composed of varying areas. Most methods differ significantly in phytosociological parameters of the sense performed. For the evaluation of the number of individuals para-tudo the method of sample plots was efficient. For estimates the phytosociological parameters any of sampling methods can be recommended for forest savannah, in the conditions that this study was conducted / Existe pouca informação sobre a composição florística dos ecossistemas e levantamentos populacionais são demorados e caros, sendo a amostragem uma alternativa considerável.

Boupoya-Mapikou, Clay-Archange CA 01 October 2010 (has links)
Abstract The study of the flora and the vegetation of the swampy clearings on hydromorphic soils were realized in the National Park of Ivindo in north-eastern of Gabon. The phytosociological method of Braun-Blanquet was adopted for the realization of the relevés within the two principal vegetation type which form this biotope: the central meadow and the edge which girdles it. 133 relevés made it possible to count 229 species divided into 175 genera and 72 families. The matrices made starting from these relevés and of these species were analyzed by the method Ind Val; DCA made it possible to obtain groupings; CCA made it possible to evaluate the environmental link between parameter and the vegetation. An analysis of variance (ANOVA) follow-up of the tests post hoc of Bonferonni made it possible to see whether the values measured within the various groups are different. The flora is dominated by Cyperaceae, Rubiaceae and Leguminosae-Caesalpinoideae. Five species, Fuirena stricta subsp stricta, Pycreus subtrigonus, Pycreus mundtii, Rhynchospora perrieri and Leptochloa coerulescens are announced for the first time to Gabon. Eight associations are described: 5 for the meadows and 3 on the level of the edges. Four of the associations of the meadows (the pelophyte semi-aquatic association with Costus afer and Centotheca lappacea; the helophyte semi-aquatic association with Pycreus mundtii and Pycreus subtrigonus; the pelophyte semi-aquatic association with Virectaria multiflora and Kyllinga pumila; the nitrophyte association with Tristemma leiocalyx and Bacopa crenata) belong to the class of Phragmitetea while the last (the aquatic association with Schoenoplectus mucronatus and Nymphaea heudelotii) is belong to the class of Potametea . Two of the associations of edges (the pelophyte pre-forester association with Ludwigia africana and Nephrolepis bisserata; the hygrophyte association of the marshy forests with Anthocleista schweinfurthii and Uapaca guineensis) belong to the class of Mitragynetea and the third (the nitrophyte marshy pre-forester association with Leptochloa coerulescens and Echinochloa indica) to Phragmitetea. The hydro-morphology and the depth of the mud as well as the animal frequentation constitute the environmental variables which influence the occurrence of these associations within the meadows, whereas they do not have any effect on the association edge. The species richness varies from 62 to 164 for the association edge while within the meadows it varies from 35 to 63. The average indices of diversity for the whole of the associations of the clearings are 4.4 ± 0.5 (Shannon), 0.07 ± 0.03 (Simpson) while Piélou’s evenness is 0.78 ± 0.05. The flora is not uniquely linked with the clearings of Gabon, although, on the phytogeographical level, the guineo-congolian endemics are dominant on the level of the edges whereas in fact the species with broad distributions prevail in the meadows. The analysis of the biological types shows the preponderance of the geophytes and the therophytes for the meadows while the edges are largely dominated by phanérophytes. The zoochory and the anemochory constitute the modes of dissemination most met within the studied flora. Key words: Swampy clearings on hydromorphic soils, flora, association, phytosociology, forest clearings, Gabon.

A vegetation study on the area leased for mining purposes by Impala Platinum, Rustenburg South Africa / Adriaan Johannes Hendrikus Lamprecht

Lamprecht, Adriaan Johannes Hendrikus January 2010 (has links)
Conservation and management of the ecology of natural areas has become a prerequisite for mining companies in South Africa. Systematic conservation planning provides a useful tool for land–use planning and impact assessment, particularly in the mining industry. A study was therefore undertaken to provide sufficient, spatially explicit biodiversity and veld condition information to aid in the development and establishment of an official conservation plan for the leased mining area of Impala Platinum. By identifying areas with high plant diversity or endemism and by assessing veld conditions as well as grazing and browsing capacities, recommendations could be made towards management strategies and potential future land–use practices. The licensed mining area, north of Rustenburg, covers 29334 ha and includes 14 operational shafts. The area was stratified into three main categories based on landscape types namely: norite koppies; thornveld and rehabilitated areas. The Braun Blanquet approach was followed to sample 139 stratified random relevés. Additional computer software packages were used for capturing, processing and presentation of the phytosociological data (TURBOVEG) as well as a visual editor for phytosociological tables (MEGATAB). Ordinations were subsequently performed to confirm the plant communities and illustrate possible environmental gradients, using multivariate statistic analyses (CANOCO). Four plant communities with two subcommunities were identified and described in both the norite koppies and thornveld respectively while three plant communities with three sub–communities were identified in the rehabilitated areas. Specific environmental factors that influence plant community structure and composition in the norite koppies were the aspect and percentage of soil surface rockiness while soil types proved to be the distinguishing factor in the thornveld. The distribution of plant communities in the rehabilitated areas is mainly due to anthropogenic influences rather than any environmental factors. The Fixed Point Monitoring of Vegetation Methodology– FIXMOVE was then used to sample 32 stratified random survey plots in four selected plant communities in order to quantify and compare veld conditions as well as grazing and browsing capacities. The determination of landscape functionality served to support these quantitative results. The Landscape Function Analysis (LFA) method was used for this purpose. Multivariate statistic analyses (CANOCO) were used to indicate possible degradation gradients between the plant communities. Selected parts of the Indigofera heterotricha–Aristida bipartita Community were also recommended for conservation and management in the form of controlled and more effective grazing strategies were recommended for the rest of the thornveld. / The main aim proposed by this study has been analyze the evolution of the regenerative process of degraded caatinga’s area in a leg of recovery (from 2008 to 2015) in the Fazenda Barra, Santa Luzia – PB’s countryside, in the microregion of Ocidental Serido. The area measures 1,88 ha, and it has been isolated for eight years, when it has begun the original project’s recuperation of this area. Its recuperation has been implemented in the interior of the area a pioneer experiment through the direct planting of native species in prepared soil, with hydrographic Nanobacias. To analyze the soil’s regeneration it has been done a floristic and phytosociological survey to check the composition, structure and diameter distribution of plant species in that area, for purposes of comparing these parameters with the first study conducted on the place. The analyzed phytosociological parameters were: Density and Dominance Absolute and Relative, Basal Area, covering value and contents diversity and richness of species. It also has been done soil samples analysis to proper classification and verification of fertility rates was taken. And, It has been analyzed the survival and growth of native species were transplanted in the mentioned experiment. In the floristic composition has been found 28 species included in 27 gender and 15 families among the 12,258 individuals registered in the general area. In the experimental environment, the percentage of the species’ survival fell down between the years 2012 and 2015 for all transplanted species, both in the prepared soil with nanobacias, as in the environment of direct planting. Soil fertility rates in the experimental area also has been fell compared to 2012, and the numbers of the prepared environment with nanobacias remained higher than the direct planting. In the overall study area, it has been concluded that there was a significant recovery as in the vegetation as in the soil in the considered period. The isolation of the area was more efficient in the natural regeneration process than other recovery techniques employed in the place. Despite the technique of soil’s preparation with nanobacias have secured higher rates of soil’s fertility, survival and growth of transplanted seedlings, it was the isolation of the area combined to the levels of accumulated rainfall during the period considered that has been ensured the recovery, which has been seen in the general area.

These forest remainders are classified as seasonal semi-deciduous tropical forest of the Atlantic Forest biome. This work aimed carry out a phytosociological survey of two toposequences in different remainders and its possible soil attributes due variation and relief. To such work two transects were demarcated with sequential parcels of 20 m x 20 m. A topographic survey was carried out using the following variables: slope, height and localization of the plots throughout the profile. A quadrant of 10 m x 10 m was chosen randomly in each parcel and in its area an evaluation of the physical and chemical soil attributes using samples in the 0-20 cm depth composed of 20 sub-samples. In this quadrant the individuals with breast height diameter (DBH) ≥ 5,0 cm were identified, marked, classified and their phytosociology describers calculated: relative and absolute frequency and densities, value of importance (VI), Shannon Diversity Index (H '), Equability (J) and the Jaccard Similarity Index (ISJ) between the two areas. For each parcel the degree of weeds was evaluated adopting ten classes according the infestation percentage varying from null to very high. The hierarchic grouping test based on the soil physical and chemical attributes allowed a division in five groups of parcels. For each group the average values of each characteristic were determined, as well as recalculated the diversity species index, equability and the similarity between the groups index. It could be concluded that the hierarchic method grouping analysis showed efficient to separate groups of phytosociology sampling parcels in seasonal semi-deciduous tropical forest when it was ... Diante da riqueza encontrada, da flora ameaçada, do nível de endemismo e das possíveis novas espécies, a Serra do Valentim é merecedora de políticas de conservação / The objectives of this study were to list the species a stretch montane rain forest Serra do Valentim, verify the geographical distribution of the same and analyze the structure and floristic similarity. F ertile botanical materials were collected from trees, shrubs, herbs, epiphytes, vines and lianas along tracks and trails on 25 field trips between the years 2011 and 2012. A total of 391 species, 220 genera and 99 families were registered. Among these, 27 were considered endangered, three endemic to the state of Espírito Santo, and three possible new to science. The most geographical pattern found was neotropical, although many species (about 10%) were restricted to Atlantic Forest vegetation in southeastern Brazil. The vegetation structure was analyzed in a total of 10 transects of dimensions 50 x 2 meters, and recorded all individuals (living and dead), among trees, shrubs and lianas with DBH ≥ 2.5 cm. Diameter was measured for all individuals and the overall height was estimated only for individuals alive. The floristic similarity was estimated using the Bray-Curtis index and WPGMA algorithm was used to group the vegetation related to 12 floristic listings. Were found 146 species, 95 genera and 53 families, and the species with the highest importance value was Euterpe edulis Mart. The Shanon index (H = 3.60 nats / ind.) was close to that found for the unspoilt forests of the Atlantic Forest and the Pielou index (J = 0.72) was considered high. The similarity values were low revealing lacking consistency in cluster analysis. The results showed the large gap in terms of floristic knowledge to the vegetation of the state of Espírito Santo, as well as the area surrounding the Caparaó, suggesting a process of intensification of collections and floristic and structural studies, due to the great wealth found. The distinction of the vegetation from Serra do Valentim in relation the others analyzed represents the heterogeneity along the Atlantic in response to several factors, among physiographic, edaphic, climatic and altimetric. These factors contribute to the formation of punctual centers of diversity restricted to small regions. Given the wealth found, threatened flora, level of endemism and possible new species, Serra do Valentim is worthy of conservation policies
