Analytical Essay On the operating mode of the ¡§One priced chain stores¡¨-A real life case of ¡§R¡¨ sundry goods chain store

Teng, Shun-Chin 06 June 2005 (has links)
Retailers in the US and Japan are taking the lead where as retailers in Taiwan are working its way up to follow this lead. Consumption trend in Taiwan¡¦s society is associated with these countries. Japan launched the so-called ¡§one priced¡¨ chain stores in 1722 and the US began operating these sorts of chain stores in 1959. Taiwan hasn¡¦t got involved in this ¡§one price operating strategy¡¨ till recent years. Due to the fact that businesses are operating under a rapidly changing environments as well as facing great competition, a huge amount of enterprises are working towards an internationalized and diversified multinational company. The living standards in Taiwan have been improving over the years; consumers now tend to put more emphasis on the quality and services of the product rather than on the price of the product. Government in Taiwan loosened the importing barrier and lowered the tariff in 1987. This action encouraged foreign companies to set up firms in Taiwan which has lead to a positive growth in Taiwan¡¦s retailer industry. The retailer industry was booming in the 1990s where the price of the product was determined by the retailer rather than the manufacturer. Therefore, retailers such as convenience stores and chain retail stores were acting as an important role in leading it to success. In comparison, these ¡§one priced¡¨ chain stores are making slight amounts of profit on each item and that¡¦s where the standard and efficiency matters. It provides customers with a pleasant shopping environment and it¡¦s seen as a kind of mini department store. The expanding and diverse strategy that the company adopts enables the company to operate more efficiently than its competitors. The risks and availability of cash flow are under sustainable circumstances. Otherwise, it might result in expanding the economics of scale but miscalculating the capacity of the market. It is suggested that evaluation of the competitive advantage is essential prior to the company becoming a multinational company. Changes in the economical, social and business environments challenge the operator¡¦s ability in dealing with these matters. Businesses are turning from physical-oriented into product-oriented competitors and that is where quality, innovation and creativity matters. In order to enhance its competitiveness, chain stores must grow by continuously improving and innovating of the products; enhancing its strategic management and backup support to create the value added product and services for the customers.

Yu, Chi-Wei 22 July 2003 (has links)
Abstract¡G Taiwan has been suffering from a series of severe earthquake disaster. Especially in 921 Earthquake. To deal with such a disastrous situation, government implemented the new plans for the quake-ravaged areas, such as the guiding principle of 921 disaster recovery. This study is attempted to program Industry Reconstruction of post- earthquake in the disaster area. The research method of this research is consisted of data analysis and SWOT Analysis. The research results have indicated: 1.The government plays an important role in the process of Industry Reconstruction. In the entire process of industry reconstruction, from the rescue at the early stage to the replacement of industry reconstruction, it is inevitably that the role of government would be the main influence of industry reconstruction effectiveness. However, in the meanwhile, because of the urge of becoming a member of WTO, it had caused the rate of the unemployment increased and some small businesses closing down. People had economically undertaken all the domestic pressures of becoming a member of WTO, and yet now the government had to face another problem, industry reconstruction in the quake-ravaged areas. It seems that it would be much harder for the government to overcome all at once, therefore, a series of well-related policy is needed, such as the guiding of job-shifted for farmers and style-shifted of agriculture, the strategic alliance of the agriculture association, the promotion of Tourism and the construction of the specific industry in the quake-ravaged areas. Those policies should be concerned in regarding to post-earthquake recovery. 2.The people participation in the reconstruction progress After 921 earthquake, it is obviously that government had difficulty to undertake all issues domestically and internationally. Therefore, it found that the participation of people in the post earthquake recovery would be necessary. Indeed, with the participation of people, it can speed up the process of the recovery. As a result, the participation of people in the quake- ravaged areas was seriously required to the re-development of the specific local industry. 3.The style-shifted of industry and resource integration Since Taiwan had put efforts on becoming a member of WTO in order to increase its products more competitive in the atmosphere of international trade, the style-shifted of Industry would be necessary in avoidance to elimination of the potential domestic industry. For example, when the style-shifted, from agriculture to agricultural Industry, had occurred, the needs of machines in Agriculture would be increased in order to reduce the cost of agriculture production. As a consequence, the agriculture production would become more competitive in international trade and it would increase GDP in a sense. Therefore, promoting the number of experts in relation to the knowledge of agriculture from government would be the prior in order to increase the competitiveness in international trade.

In the past, dermatological clinics had the advantages of medical profession; however, without strict law restrictions, numerous medical ¡§cosmeceutical centers¡¨ have emerged rapidly and intensified the market competition significantly. The SWOT and five-force analysis are used to analyze the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of C Dermatological Clinic, thereby, business strategies are provided. The results indicate that minimally invasive treatment is the trend of medical cosmeceutical business in the future. Due to the excellent location, professional medical teams, advanced equipments, individual proprietorship and strong marketing task force, C Dermatological Clinic, has built up a great reputation in this industry and now provides its customers total solution packages by incorporating plastic surgeon into the services. Catching the opportunities of the continuous progress in biotechnology and growing public awareness of cosmeceutical therapy, C Dermatological Clinic has successfully become one of the most important players in the growing medical cosmeceutical market. However, after the Taiwan high speed rail in operating (which broke the entry barrier of distance between cities), the threats of new entrants including medical laser suppliers, cosmetic or salon shops, and other special medical institutes, the medical cosmeceutical market becomes more competitive. Facing the emerging medical tourism demand and the pervasion of internet, We suggest that C Dermatological Clinic should aggressively improve its weaknesses such as poor computer knowledge, lack of service attitude and bad decision quality, strengthen its customer service training, pay more attention to the customer relationship management, make best use of internet to promote the clinic, and ally with tourist bureaus or hotels to expand its share in this market and develop a sustainable business model.

A SWOT Analysis of the Protecting Pedestrians on the Move Project

Lynch, Victoria Rock 15 January 2010 (has links)
Each day, approximately 25,000 GSU students, staff, and faculty are exposed to deadly hazards from fast-moving, high-volume traffic. Protecting Pedestrians on the Move (PPM), a collaboration of organizations in downtown Atlanta, has partnered with several groups to implement an action plan to improve pedestrian safety for Georgia State students and others in the downtown campus area. This study utilized the SWOT analysis evaluative tool to understand the team members’ and stakeholders’ perceptions of the project’s programming and implementation. Participants were asked to rate the extent to which the project’s goals were fulfilled, as well as to describe the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of five aspects of the project: people, program, effectiveness, resources, and growth. Seven participants completed the survey, and gave an overall rating of the completion of project objectives as 6.2 out of 10. Staff expertise and relationships were considered the greatest strengths, and PPM becoming a strong voice for pedestrian safety was viewed to be the primary opportunity of the PPM project. Overly ambitious goals and depleted funding were reported as the greatest weaknesses, and loss of objectives and no succession plan were considered the primary threats. Areas for future improvement included: finding a funding and personnel “home” for the PPM project, having a clear strategic plan, and developing plans for the future/sustainability. The insights gained from this SWOT analysis exercise provides direction for continued research and improved program implementation surrounding pedestrian safety issues.
