Research about what differences and similarities exists between UNHCR and UNRWA in the opinion of a refugee?

This examination focuses on a study between The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and THE United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). Both organizations are UN-related and are in charge of refugees, however they differ by the fact the UNHCR controls all of the world’s refugees with the exception of the Palestinian refugees, for which UNRWA. The aim of this work will be to examine the definition of refugees as well as their entitlements and in what way they differ depending on which organization they belong to.

As theory I have, among others, used Rainer Bauböck’s book ” Transnational Citizenship”. In his writing he focuses on entitlements and this book became very useful in my work and helped with the structure of the paper.

In conclusion, even though there is some resemblance in the aspect of a refugee’s entitlements, there are a lot of differences between UNHCR and UNRWA, mainly regarding the definition of a refugee but also in terms of assignments. What’s most noticeable when it comes to differences between these two organs is that UNHCR has mandate to assist with international protection and to seek permanent solutions for refugees. The mandate of UNRWA is limited to only assist Palestinian refugees with humanitarian assistance. UNRWA has been criticized to contribute directly to Palestinian dreams of return instead of accepting incorporation of refugees in neigbouring Arab countries.

Education for refugee children : A case study on UNHCR´s strategyAhlman, Linda January 2022 (has links)
The subject being studied is education for refugee children. Today, there are many children that are not allowed, or have the possibility to go to school and get an education which is a failure towards children's development in relation to human rights. Despite that refugees are supposed to have rights to be provided education, they are reported getting lower access to education than other children. The purpose of this study is to understand the educational contribution from an organisation’s perspective and how to understand what needs to develop to ensure all refugee children with education. The research question that this study is based on is: How can we understand the role of education at a young age for refugees in relation to children's development? The method chosen for this study is a case study through two reports of the United Nation High Commissioner (UNHCR) to collect data of their education strategy implemented in a project called Educate A Child. Theory selected to analyse and understand the strategy is Pierre Bourdieu's theory of Field, Capital, and Habitus. The conclusion of the study is that the educational sector has several factors that play different roles. Teacher’s training is of great importance and must be taken more into account in their role and responsibility towards the children, the economic capital is important to be able to develop opportunities for children to attend school, and inclusion and partnership also play a great role. Keywords that have been used are education, primary school, UNHCR, refugee children.

It’s significant for charities to incorporate persuasion strategies into their communication to create engagement and encourage donations. This is especially important in circumstances of war due to the millions of people who are forced to flee and need emergency assistance. UNHCR is currently located in the war-torn area of Ukraine and needs support to continue their humanitarian aid. Thus, this study aims to examine how the UNHCR uses persuasion strategies in their advertisements concerning the refugee crisis in Ukraine to prompt donations. The object of the study causes the following research questions: What persuasion strategies does UNHCR use to generate contributions through commercials related to the refugee crisis in Ukraine? In which way are the three pisteis of rhetoric: logos, ethos, and pathos, used? What meaning can the commercials be seen communicating on a manifest and latent level? As the study focuses on different ways of convincing, rhetorics as a theoretical framework becomes natural to use. The classical and visual rhetoric thus serve as a support in the critical visual rhetoric analysis carried out in the study. A generic targeted selection has been used to select and analyze four commercials from the UNHCR's YouTube channel. The results show that UNHCR frequently uses rhetorical means to persuade donations, including the three pisteis of rhetoric and other persuasion strategies that appear mainly at a latent level.

Integration – the Tool for a Better Future? : A Descriptive Ethical Analysis of the Dutch Integration PolicyGrooteman, Lisa January 2016 (has links)
This master thesis in applied ethics is a descriptive ethical analysis of the current integration policy in the Netherlands. The main purpose is to describe and critically discuss the Dutch integration policy. In the recent years there has been a major shift in the Dutch integration directive, from a liberal to a harsher integration policy. This thesis contributes with a characterization of integration by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, European Commission and within the Dutch context, particularly a characterization of values and ideals in integration policies. Also, an attempt is made to analyze what the underlying motives and core values are, and which values should be fostered. Moreover, an overview is given of the various dimensions of integration. The second part of this thesis explores the Dutch integration policy in light of the European Commission's eleven common basic principles for immigrant integration policy in the European Union. In addition, ethical implications concerning the Dutch integration policy will be stated. Finally, the consequences of failing integration will be identified and some practical recommendations for the Dutch integration policy will be provided.
