[pt] SMILJAN RADIĆ: ALÉM DA MATÉRIA: IMAGINAÇÃO E REALIDADE CONSTRUÍDA NO PROCESSO PROJETUAL / [en] SMILJAN RADIĆ: BEYOND MATTER: IMAGINATION AND BUILT REALLITY IN THE PROJECTUAL PROCESS.MATIAS BAUMANN DE BERREDO 25 September 2019 (has links)
[en] Smiljan Radić is a Chilean architect who has stood out internationally for his enigmatic works. His practice is marked by experimentation with raw matter and the investigation of its social, sensorial and symbolic meanings, where the interest is concentrated in creating atmospheres that trancend the common sense of architectural visuality. His rhetoric as well as his authorial production, composed of textual and imagistic narratives, evidence the subjective and poetic character of his work, adding an underground ingredient that makes his works directly related to the fields of the imagination, the unconscious and memory. The argument implied here is that in the architecture of Smiljan Radić, or at least in part of it, the function of the real and the function of the unreal merge into an innovative architectural whole. In order to deal with the works of the Chilean architect and his creative processes, we delve into the formation bases of the Chilean architects generation of which Radić is a part. On the other hand, we find in the surrealistic, situationist vanguards and in the set of groups that have been called Radical Architecture, an important part of the practical and theoretical referential that point to a condition of mutual infiltration between the domains of reality and imagination. It is from this point of view that the methods and creative processes of Radić will be investigated. Thus, from the analysis of two relevant works from the beginning of the millennium - Restaurante Mestizo and Casa para El Poema Del Ángulo Recto - we identify and develop themes inherent to the binomial approach to the imagination plus built reality, seeking to draw relationships between its creation processes and construction, and the theoretical reference approach, as well as to
identify the effects caused by these works in the scope of experience.

[en] ARCHITECTURE IN THE ELECTRONIC AGE: IMAGE ABSORBED BY INFORMATION / [pt] ARQUITETURA NA ERA ELETRÔNICA: A IMAGEM ABSORVIDA PELA INFORMAÇÃOFABIOLA MACEDO RIBEIRO 09 October 2006 (has links)
arquitetura. Os novos conceitos que investigamos estão
associados ao design de
produto, à publicidade e à arte eletrônica. Esta pesquisa
discute as
construção da imagem urbana atual sofreu alterações e
sugerimos que o
pensamento arquitetônico também deva ser atualizado. / [en] Among the many current architectural trends, some
originate directly from
the digital reality. This new architecture - sometimes
exploring the new
possibilities the digital brings, or destroying the myths
it creates, also developing
ways of making it adapt to the materiality of the world,
but always using it as fuel
for its projects - demands a revision of its definitions
from new cultural and
ideological postures that break up with traditional
notions. New architectural
concepts are associated to industrial design, publicity
and electronic art. The
present research discusses some characteristics of the
architecture that mutates
with the advent of information society, analyses theories
that feeds it and indicates
similarities of projects and works of architecture with
those of industrial design.
The construction of current urban image has been altered
and we suggest that
architectural thinking must follow.

[en] ARCHITECTURE BETWEEN MATTER AND SENSE: DESIGN, PRESENCE AND CRITICISM IN THE CONTEMPORARY EXPANDED FIELD OF CULTURE / [pt] ARQUITETURA ENTRE MATÉRIA E SENTIDO: PROJETO, PRESENÇA E CRÍTICA NO CAMPO AMPLIADO DA CULTURA CONTEMPORÂNEAALICE VARELLA TEPEDINO 19 September 2016 (has links)
regras formais do funcionalismo. Nesse contexto, é enfatizada a importância do
[en] This research aims to investigate the possibilities of the renewal of
signification processes and sense production in architecture, in the context of the
complex contemporary condition. From the capitalistic dynamics of consumerism
that govern the construction of contemporary cities emerges a spectacular
architectonic production created to symbolize political-economical prosperity in
which, frequently, art and architecture are associated in a process of cultural
commodification. This process added to the crises of the modern paradigm,
complicates the comprehension of the architect’s role and the possibilities for
architecture today through a critical approach determining an impoverishment of
the theoretical and architectural design activity, still conditioned to the traditional
codes and rules of functionalism. In this context, an emphasis is placed on the
importance of the displacement from the architectonic object and it s aestheticalformal
aspects to the conceptual aspects of architecture, to be approached in the
scope of the contemporary expanded field of culture. Since the incorporation of
theoretical paradigms from linguistics and philosophy by artistic and architectural
practices, in the 60 s, to approach the processes of matter and sense production
that composes the cultural built environment, interdisciplinarity has become
indispensable. These issues were approached in this study by analyzing the work
of the North American architect Peter Eisenman and his interlocutors, in an
intense dialog involving architecture, art and philosophy, with emphasis on the
importance of resistance and criticism of the standards that limit our presence,
experience and relationship with space, matter and time, through architecture.

[en] COMPLEXITY POETICS: THE CONTEMPORARY TOPOS AND THE LIMITS OF ARCHITECTURE IN BETWEEN ART AND LANDSCAPE / [pt] POÉTICAS DA COMPLEXIDADE: O LUGAR CONTEMPORÂNEO E OS LIMITES DA ARQUITETURA ENTRE ARTE E PAISAGEMFABIOLA DO VALLE ZONNO 11 June 2013 (has links)
[en] Complexity Poetics: the contemporary topos and the limits of Architecture
in between Art and Landscape analyzes works of art and architecture that, taking
part in the expanded field, after the 1960´s, are intertwined with the sites, to refound
the landscape. This thesis investigates the contemporary places as a
contextual practice which considers the multiplicity, the incertitude, the
ambiguity, the contradiction and the transformations to come. These works
establish a critical revision of modernism as well as of the contextualism which
defended place as permanence, proposing a historicist recuperation of the past.
On the contrary, complexity poetics discuss the place of art/architecture in the
contemporary cultural expanded field, in a shift past-future, and propose a
revision of art’s operational modes. This study is an attempt to understand the
contemporary processes and the re-definition of architecture’s limits as a
movement of self-criticism towards experimentalism in arts, that goes against
formalism, functionalism and the representation of stability. Points of common
that stand out: the appropriation of everyday images and signs, the conceptual,
discursive and fictional character of art, the notion of process, the phenomenal and
spatial-time experience, the événement and the performance. This study asserts a
two-way movement: the ongoing adventure of the reinvention of landscape as an
active field - imagistic, phenomenal, discursive and performatic, and the
reinvention of artistic mediums through differential poetics which assume
contemporary complexity.

[en] DESIGN FICTIONS: GRAPHIC DESIGN AND PROFESSIONAL DISCOURSE IN CONTEMPORARY BOOKS OF INTERNATIONAL ARCHITECTURE OFFICES / [pt] FICÇÕES PROJETUAIS: PROJETO GRÁFICO E DISCURSO PROFISSIONAL EM LIVROS CONTEMPORÂNEOS DE ESCRITÓRIOS INTERNACIONAIS DE ARQUITETURA E URBANISMOGABRIEL GIRNOS ELIAS DE SOUZA 06 January 2016 (has links)
de livros inspirados nesse primeiro caso: FARMAX: Excursions in Density, do
escritório MVRDV (1998), e Yes is More: an archicomic on architectural evolution, de Bjarke
Ingels Group (2009).
[en] The dissertation investigates the role of book design in architecture s
disciplinary culture since the last decade of the twentieth century, especially in
monographs produced by firms internationally famed. Considering that book design
has been increasingly used by famous architects as a tool for the construction and
display of public identity and attitude, the goal of this work is to analyze whether and
how some attributes of professional discourse and even of designs from the
architecture offices (who are both authors and the subjects), are incorporated in
the formal configuration given to books and, especially, in the graphic language of
project presentations in them. The dissertation examines the cultural role and
expressive potential of the printed book medium in the context of recent times
electronic media and, specifically, in the historical development of relations between
the discipline of architecture and its media of diffusion. It presents a methodological
reflection on factors, elements and concepts to consider for a design analysis of
architecture books. Then, it makes three case studies, the main case being the
influential S,M,L,XL (1995), monograph by architect Rem Koolhaas and his Office
for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) made in partnership with graphic designer
Bruce Mau. The two other shorter analysis address books inspired by the first case:
FARMAX: Excursions in Density, from MVRDV (1998), and Yes is More: an archicomic
on architectural evolution (2009), from Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). Through comparing
the similarities and divergences between those three books, the dissertation seeks to
highlight relevant aspects of professional and cultural dynamics internal to the
architecture discipline in contemporary times.
