[en] The proper understanding of the wax deposition phenomena in subsea oil pipelines is relevant to the development of more accurate models to aid in the design and operation of these lines. In the present work, laboratory-scale experiments under well-controlled conditions were conducted to study some relevant aspects of wax deposition. To this end, an annular deposition test section was employed, using a test fluid with known properties, and displaying a marked distinction between the solvent and the wax chemical components. The test section was equipped with a temperature probe of small dimensions, driven by a micrometer head. This probe allowed the measurement of temperature profiles within the wax deposit, under flowing conditions, and also the temperature of the deposit-liquid interface as the deposit was formed. The tests encompassed the variation of the annular flow Reynolds number, the cold wall temperature and the wall cooling rate. A high-frame-rate video camera coupled to magnifying lenses was used to provide images of the temperature probe and of the deposit interface. The results showed that that temperature of the interface remains stable in an intermediate value between the WAT (Wax Appearance Temperature) and the WDT (Wax Disappearance Temperature), since the first moments of the deposition until the deposit reaches its steady state configuration. The video camera captured original images on the deposit formation, especially on a region above the deposit where wax crystals are carried by the flow for a period of time. Only an insignificant number of carried crystals were observed to deposit over the immobile interface, or to be captured at the interface. The images also revealed that the carried crystals do not originate from crystals sloughed from upstream positions in the annular duct. The temperature probe
was also employed to measure the temperature of the liquid region above the deposit interface where the crystals existed for a period of time.

[en] WAX DEPOSITION IN PIPELINES: NUMERICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL STUDY / [pt] DEPOSIÇÃO DE PARAFINA EM LINHAS DE PETRÓLEO: ESTUDO NUMÉRICO E EXPERIMENTALLUCIANA BOHER E SOUZA 21 May 2015 (has links)
envelhecimento do depósito. / [en] High molecular weight paraffins crystallize and deposit on the inner walls of production lines and oil pipelines operating in cold environments, causing reductions in flow rate, increase of the production cost, or even the total blockage of the transport lines. Wax deposition is a complex process involving multidisciplinary knowledge, so that different approaches have been proposed for its modeling. The primary purpose of this work was to investigate the wax deposition process in a simple geometry under well-controlled conditions, using a numerical and experimental approach, focusing on a better understanding of the phenomena controlling the wax deposition, the formation of the deposit and its aging. Controlled experiments were conducted using laboratory solutions which allowed visualization and measurement of the spatial and temporal evolution of wax deposits under laminar and turbulent flows. A multicomponent model for laminar flow, called enthalpy-porosity, was developed. The thickness and composition of the deposit were determined by a thermodynamic model coupled with conservation equations of mass, linear momentum, energy and species. The results indicated that the Soret effect does not contribute to wax deposition. The thickness of the deposit was well predicted by the numerical model for steady state, presenting, however, differences in its temporal evolution. The multicomponent model developed provides valuable information in addition to the deposited thickness, such as the wax appearance temperature (WAT) and the critical carbon number (CCN) of the wax-oil system. These are relevant information for the prediction of the deposit composition and the aging process. The numerical results demonstrated that higher flow rates and wall temperatures lead to thinner deposits. It was also shown that the deposit wax content is higher
for higher shear rates, while higher wall temperatures lead to higher solid content in the intermediate region of the deposit.

[en] The socio-educational measures in open settings since their implementation have been the subject of controversies and divergences, with radically opposing positions, where one defends the guarantee of rights or the punishment to the adolescents who committed an offence. This dissertation aims to analyze the basic arguments that characterize these positions. For those who perceive socio-educational measures as guarantee of rights, the arguments used frequently take into account the contexts in which the adolescents in conflict with the law live and the moment of their life cycle: adolescence. Those who believe
that socio-educational measures favor impunity for adolescents, in general, are in favor of reducing the penal age and their imprisonment. The analysis was carried out based on the guidelines of current regulations, proposals for Constitutional Amendments and the context of execution of the socio-educational measures in open settings. This will be done using as reference a study which focused on socio-educational measures held in the year 2017 with the Specialized Reference Centers in Social Assistance of the municipality of Rio de Janeiro.

[en] STUDY OF WAX DEPOSITS IN PIPELINES / [pt] ESTUDO DE DEPÓSITOS DE PARAFINA EM DUTOSHELENA MARIA BORJA VEIGA 08 August 2017 (has links)
[en] The present research provided original information to aid the understanding of the physical mechanisms governing wax deposition in pipelines. The research program addressed a number of relevant open questions in the literature regarding the formation, growth and aging of the wax deposit layer. To this end, an experimental program was devised, following a strategy of conducting simple experiments, employing lab-scale test sections with well-defined boundary and initial conditions, and using simple test uids with known properties. Measurements were performed in a rectangular and in an annular test section, both especially designed to allow for optical measurements of the time evolution of the spatial distribution of the wax deposit thickness. The test sections were equipped with heat ux sensor, temperature traversing probes and deposit sampling ports that allowed the measurement of relevant local information on the deposit, such as, thermal conductivity under owing conditions, temperature profiles within the deposit, deposit-liquid interface temperature, and deposit composition. The temporal and spatial evolution of the deposit layer were measured for different values of the laminar ow Reynolds number. Excellent agreement was obtained between measured values of the deposit thickness and predictions from a numerical model developed previously in our research group. Measurements of the evolution of the deposit-liquid interface temperature have shown that the interface temperature evolves from a value equal to the solution wax appearance temperature, WAT, to the wax disappearance temperature, WDT, as the deposit grows to attain its steady state thickness. The temperature traversing probe was employed to obtain information on the temperature profiles within the wax deposit layer under owing conditions. A comparison of the measured temperature profiles within the deposit with the theoretical solutions, indicated the possibility of convective transport in the deposit. Measurements of the deposit thermal conductivity under owing conditions did not reveal any effects of the imposed shear rate, for the range of Reynolds numbers investigated. Local variations of the thermal conductivity across the deposit layer indicated the presence of liquid close to the cold wall. Deposit samples were obtained and analyzed by high temperature gas chromatography, for the range of the laminar Reynolds numbers tested and for different durations of the deposition experiments. The analyzes revealed that the carbon distributions of the deposit samples presented a shift toward higher carbon numbers both, with increasing deposition time and Reynolds number, characterizing the aging process of the deposit. The carbon number distributions were seen to display an asymptotic behavior with Reynolds number, for samples obtained from the final portion of the longer deposition lengths of the annular test section.

[en] Wax deposition in petroleum production and transportation lines is one of the most relevant problems faced by the industry in order to assure the flow of oil and gas at the designed economical rates. Significant losses occur due to decreased production, line replacements and maintenance costs associated with cleaning operations. Wax deposit formation on the inner wall of the pipes might occur when the warm oil from the well loses heat to the cold environment, typical of deep water production operations, and its temperature reaches a critical value at which wax crystal formation occurs. This critical temperature is the WAT, wax appearance temperature. The prediction of wax deposit formation by simulation models is of fundamental importance for the proper design and operation of petroleum lines. Several wax deposition models have been developed and employed over the years, incorporating different wax deposition mechanisms. In the present work, the wax deposition phenomenon was studied employing a model fluid flowing through an annular test section, built to offer simple and well-defined boundary and initial conditions for the deposition process. Optical access to the interior of the test section allowed for the registration of images of the wax deposit formation. A miniature temperature probe was designed and employed to obtain original information on the temperature profiles within the deposit as it was formed. Also, the probe registered the transient evolution of the deposit interface temperature for different flow rates and cooling rates. The transient formation of a cloud of wax crystals over the deposit interface and carried by the flow was registered by a high frame rate camera. The temperature within this cloud was measured by the temperature probe. The results have shown that the deposit interface temperature evolves from a value equal to the WAT of the fluid measured by microscopy, rapidly reaching a constant value which is intermediate between the WAT and the solution thermodynamic phase change temperature. This information contradicts one of the key assumptions included in the molecular diffusion deposition mechanism, and widely employed in academic and industrial simulation models. [en] INNOVATIVE DECISION MODELS FOR ENERGY COMMERCIALIZATION / [pt] MODELOS DE DECISÃO INOVADORES PARA COMERCIALIZAÇÃO DE ENERGIAJONAS CALDARA PELAJO 13 August 2024 (has links)
otimização de processos relevantes do setor, considerando o cenário atual. O
[en] In the last decade, the Brazilian electricity sector has faced regulatory and
operational challenges due to the need to adapt to changes in the energy matrix,
which shows a growing share of intermittent renewable energies, such as solar
photovoltaic and wind energy. Additionally, social and environmental restrictions
on the construction of new hydroelectric reservoirs require the development of new
models for hydrological risk management. This thesis comprises four studies and
aims to develop decision support models that contribute to the management of the
national interconnected system and the optimization of relevant processes in the
sector, considering the current scenario. The first study, by defining a methodology
for accessing the parameters of the ECP_G functional, contributes to the innovation
and improvement of theoretical models, with practical results for the sector. The
second study contributes to the process of seasonalizing the physical guarantee and
reveals an optimal strategy that simultaneously maximizes the results of generating
agents, preventing reductions in payoffs resulting from individual movements of
competitors. The third study proposes a commercialization portfolio optimization
model, which allows agents to adequately expose themselves to risk, contributing
to more efficient commercial management. Finally, the fourth study presents an
operational model for an energy futures clearing house, offering valuable insights
for stakeholders interested in establishing such a project in Brazil, where no energy
futures clearing house currently exists.

[pt] DETERMINANTES DO SUCESSO DAS CONCESSÕES DE INFRAESTRUTURA PÚBLICA: UMA ANÁLISE DA IMPORTÂNCIA, O IMPACTO E O VALOR DAS FLEXIBILIDADES INCLUÍDAS NOS CONTRATOS USANDO A ABORDAGEM DE OPÇÕES REAIS / [en] DETERMINANTS FOR THE SUCCESS IN PUBLIC INFRASTRUCTURE CONCESSIONS: AN ANALYSIS OF THE IMPORTANCE, IMPACT, AND VALUE OF THE FLEXIBILITIES INCLUDED IN THE CONCESSION CONTRACTS, USING THE REAL OPTIONS APPROACHLILIANA DENNIS MEJIA SANCHEZ 23 July 2024 (has links)
[pt] Esta tese estuda as Concessões e Parcerias Público-Privadas (PPPs) realizadas
no Brasil.
A terceira parte
[en] This thesis studies concessions and Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs)
carried out in Brazil. To analyze the problems, risks, uncertainties, and factors that
affect infrastructure projects and proposes a strategy to solve one of the main risks
that affect projects: demand risk. In the first part, a systematic literature review on
public infrastructure projects and the application of evaluation approaches that
incorporate flexibility is carried out. This is the case with the Real Options
Approach. This review focuses on the main advances made in the area, current
trends, ways to incorporate flexibility, and its evaluation. The second part analyses
the main characteristics of concession contracts in Brazil and the factors that
generated problems in concessions. This analysis identifies the main problems,
similarities, and differences between sectors and displays the strategies used for
facing the difficulties. The third part shows trends regarding PPPs in Latin America
and the Caribbean. It also highlights a concession model used in ports. Unlike other
models, construction is carried out according to demand through triggers. Once the
trigger is activated, the investment becomes mandatory. Therefore, it is known as a
mandatory option. Finally, a new model is developed in the fourth part to mitigate
demand risk and not generate contingent liabilities for the granting authority. This
new strategy is called the MRG/GL mechanism, as it combines the Minimum
Revenue Guarantee (MRG) with the Accounts Mechanism. The results show that it
is possible to reduce demand risk, make projects attractive, and simultaneously
reduce the possibility of budgetary burden for the government.

[pt] DESENVOLVIMENTO DE MODELOS UTILIZANDO INTELIGÊNCIA ARTIFICIAL PARA PROBLEMAS DE GARANTIA DE ESCOAMENTO NA INDÚSTRIA DE PETRÓLEO / [en] DEVELOPMENT OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE MODELS APPLIED TO THE FLOW ASSURANCE PROBLEMS IN THE OIL AND GAS INDUSTRYBRUNO XAVIER FERREIRA 10 November 2022 (has links)
incrustação é geralmente causada por parafina, hidratos e sal inorgânico. Neste
depende fortemente do pH do sistema.
10. / [en] A significant concern during oil and gas production is flow assurance to
avoid loss of time and money. Due to production conditions changes (such as
pressure and temperature), especially in the Brazilian pre-salt region, the solubility
of the components of the crude oil (oil-gas-water) can decrease, resulting in the
formation of deposits. The fouling is usually caused by wax, gas hydrate, and
inorganic salt (scale). In this work, models were developed using Machine
Learning strategies for scale formation monitoring and measuring process
parameters associated with remediation of obstruction from other sources. First,
models for the calcium carbonate scaling formation process in the presence of
monoethylene glycol (typical gas hydrate inhibitor) were created using
feedforward neural network architecture to predict the differential pressure (deltaP)
one and five steps ahead, obtaining an R2
higher than 92.9 percent for the training and
test group for both the prediction horizon. The second approach explored was the
development of models for determining the pH in atmospheric and pressurized
systems (up to 6.0 MPa) using image analysis. These models could be applied to
control and monitor the Nitrogen Generation System, which can be used for
different flow assurance problems, and its kinetics strongly depend on the system s
pH value. This step initially created classification models for the system pH (2, 3,
4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10) using the Convolution Neural Networks (CNN), Support Vector
Machine, and decision tree architectures. Also, CNN models were built to predict
the pH in the range of 2-10.

MRE e a geração total dentro do mecanismo.
as usinas participantes.
[en] The Energy Reallocation Mechanism (ERM) was created to mitigate the
production risk to which the hydroelectric power plants are often exposed. The
ERM allows the hydro plants to use, for the purpose of the CCEE market clearing,
the energy credits obtained within the ERM instead of their physical generation.
These energy credits are currently calculated as the product of the share that each
plant has in ERM and the total amount of energy produced by the plants that are
part of the mechanism. In turn, this share is calculated as the ratio between the
Physical Guarantee (PG) of the plant and the total PG of all the ERM participants.
However, the current methodology for calculating PG does not take into account
that each power plant has different contributions to the total generation of the
system in terms of expected value and volatility of its generation. This indicates a
potential cross-subsidy among power plants in ERM. In this sense, this work
proposes a methodology, that can be applied in the allocation of the benefits
resulting from the formation of a pool of any set of generators, but that in this
work will be focused on ERM to set the shares of the mechanism based on the
method of Marginal Benefits capturing at the same time the effect that the
expected value and the volatility of production of each participant has on the
portfolio. In this criterion, power plants with a negative correlation with the total
production of the system will add greater benefits to ERM, as they would help to
reduce the volatility of generation (energy credits) within the mechanism. In order
to evaluate if the objective was achieved the proposed methodology will be not
only compared to the current methodology in Brazil, but also applied to a set of
Brazilian generators engaged in an ERM formed by hydro, biomass and wind
power plants.

[en] TEMPERATURE BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS OF OIL PRODUCTION SYSTEMS: DRY AND WET COMPLETION COMPARISON / [pt] ANÁLISE DO COMPORTAMENTO DA TEMPERATURA EM SISTEMAS DE PRODUÇÃO DE PETRÓLEO: COMPARAÇÃO ENTRE COMPLETAÇÃO SECA E MOLHADAMARCOS JOSE REI VILLELA 16 March 2005 (has links)
mil metros. As
profundas. Nestes
cenários, a maior variação da energia potencial e
conseqüente intensificação do
promover a comparação
continental brasileira. / [en] Around 50 percent of the Brazilian reserves of hydrocarbons are
located in the
continental platform in water depths with more than one
thousand meters. The
freezing temperatures of the sea bottom make problems
related to oil production,
even more critical. However, the flow assurance challenges
are not the only
obstacles for the oil production in ultra-deep waters.
Besides the aspects related
to the geology and economical factors, the decision of
development of an
offshore oil field adopting a system with wet completion or
with dry completion,
needs to be supported by discerning analyses of the
problems related to flow
assurance aspects, mainly in deep and ultra-deep water
locations. In these
scenarios, a larger variation of the potential energy and
consequent
intensification of the Joule-Thomson effect, contribute in
a much more
significant way to the temperature and pressure drops. This
work aims to
promote the comparison between an oil production system
using extended reach
wells with a dry completion unit and another system with
wet completion, at
850, 1.550 and 2.300m of water depth, evaluating the
effects of pressure drop
and heat loss in a multiphase flow. Using wet completion,
it is evaluated the
maximum feasible distances between the producing zone of
the formation and
the floating production unit, allowing the flow of
hydrocarbons without
interruption by the formation of paraffin crystals. Based
on the reached results,
we can reach some important conclusions regarding trend of
production systems
in deep and ultra-deep water, that will guide the
development of oil fields in the
near future in the Brazilian continental platform.
