[pt] DESENVOLVIMENTO E CARACTERIZAÇÃO DE COMPÓSITOS DE POLIETILENO DE ALTA DENSIDADE REFORÇADOS COM RESÍDUOS DE PEDRA SABÃO / [en] DEVELOPMENT AND CHARACTERIZATION OF HIGH-DENSITY POLYETHYLENE COMPOSITES REINFORCED WITH SOAPSTONE WASTEGIULIA SIMAO BARRETO DE SOUSA 18 November 2021 (has links)
mecânico do polímero.
elástico do PEAD. No entanto, a incorporação de frações maiores de carga
alterou o mecanismo de fratura e diminuiu consideravelmente a ductilidade
do polímero.
[en] A novel sustainable material was developed using a mineral waste as
filler for polymeric composites. Soapstone is a mineral typically found in
abundance in communities that rely heavily on artisanal crafts as a source
of income and which are often in a situation of social vulnerability. Rock
recovery in those activities is low and the waste disposal is done with little
control, which can be hazardous to the environment and the health of
the local residents. Thus, to use this residue to reinforce the properties
of a polymer with a wide range of applications, such as polyethylene, can
lead to positive economical, social and environmental returns. A thorough
characterization of the residue was done with automated image analysis, Xray
diffraction, infrared, and Raman spectroscopy. The waste particles were
incorporated into a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) matrix in three compositions:
10, 20 and 30 wt percent. X-ray microtomography was used to quantify
the filler volume fraction, void content, and the microstructural homogeneity
of the composites. It was found that the soapstone particles have a
strong tendency of forming clusters in the HDPE matrix, however, statistical
analysis revealed that the volumetric filler distribution was homogeneous
throughout the samples. Rheological, tensile and creep tests assessed the influence
of the particles on the polymer s processing conditions and practical
mechanical behavior. A relevant increase in viscosity and shear stress was
observed at lower shear rates for higher filler loadings. The addition of soapstone
waste particles successfully decreased creep strain and increased both
yield strength and elastic modulus of HDPE. However, the incorporation
of higher amounts of filler altered the fracture mechanism and considerably
decreased ductility and creep rupture time of the polymer. The relationship
between the microstructure and the macroscopic mechanical behavior was
investigated by fitting tensile test data with macro-mechanical models from
the literature, which allowed the quantification of the interfacial bonding.

[en] EFFECT OF REPROCESSING ON THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF A HDPE/LDPE BLEND / [pt] EFEITO DO REPROCESSAMENTO NAS PROPRIEDADES MECÂNICAS EM UMA BLENDA DE PEBD/PEADWILLIAM BUSCHLE ROMARIZ INACIO 31 August 2018 (has links)
[en] Thermoplastics are the most used polymers nowadays on account of being easily reprocessable with high temperatures. During the oil crisis in 1973 the costs of transforming oil into plastic materials became more attractive than turning them into more traditional materials. Furthermore, the investments in transformation industries grew alongside the concern for the environment. Due to the ease of reprocessing these materials a lot of companies started recycling them within their process. In this context, the present study aims to analyze the mechanical behavior of a low density polyethylene (LDPE) and high density polyethylene (HDPE) blend and pure LDPE after 10 cycles of reprocessing. The polymers were donated by Companhia de Canetas Compactor. The materials suffered up to 10 cycles of injection moulding/extrusion. Tensile tests were made to determine the maximum yield stress and maximum load allowed. Afterwards, calculations were made to determine elongation, Young modulus and toughness. The HDPE addition was responsible to raise the materials yield stress and hardness. From a practical point of view the reprocessing didn t affect significantly the materials performance. FTIR analyses didn t detect oxidation through the process.

[en] POLYAMIDE 12 AND HIGH DENSITY POLYETHYLENE CHARACTERIZATION BEFORE AND AFTER AGING IN WATER AT DIFFERENT TEMPERATURES / [pt] CARACTERIZAÇÃO DA POLIAMIDA 12 E POLIETILENO DE ALTA DENSIDADE ANTES E DEPOIS DO ENVELHECIMENTO EM ÁGUA A DIFERENTES TEMPERATURASRODRIGO CAMPELLO TUCUNDUVA 07 February 2018 (has links)
[en] In recent years, some alternatives have emerged for carbon steel pipelines, which are the majority in the transport of oil and gas, with a great prominence for polymeric materials, mainly due to their low metal density, good corrosion resistance and good processability. In addition, the polymers present greater ease
of maintenance and installation, making them economically viable. However, such materials may be degraded when exposed to chemicals and heat. The objective of this work is to evaluate the variation of the mechanical properties of polyamides 12 and high density polyethylenes when aged in water for 6 months at ambient temperature and at 70 degrees Celsius, considering that the service temperature of
these materials ranges from 70 to 80 degrees Celsius. For the characterization of the material, mechanical tests of traction, impact and excitation by sonorous impulse were carried out, such as the characterization by electron microscopy. The results of the characterization of the samples after aging were compared with the results obtained from the original materials, in order to realize that all the samples suffered variations in their mechanical properties. At ambient temperature samples of HDPE increased their stiffness, increasing their resilience, reducing their impact resistance, also reducing the yield stress and reducing their damping. However, for HDPE samples aged 70 degrees Celsius, there was a reduction in their stiffness and yield stress, however, there was an increase in their impact strength and material resilience. For polyamides 12 aged at ambient temperature there was a significant reduction in stiffness, flow stress and maximum stress, there was an increase in the resilience of the material consistent with an increase in impact strength and an increase in softening. At 70 degrees Celsius polyamide 12 showed a reduction
in stiffness, yield stress and maximum stress, there was an increase in resilience and impact strength, followed by a reduction in softening. In all aging situations the HDPE suffered a degradation in the color of the material, which was not so visible for the polyamides 12 mainly for aging at ambient temperature. Thus, the mechanical behavior of the polymers was influenced by temperature, always leading to variations in their mechanical properties and depending on the situation, being more or less relevant.

[en] DIAGNOSIS OF THE REVERSE DISTRIBUTION CHANNEL IN RECYCLE OF PLASTICS RESIDUES: POLYSTYRENE AND POLYETHYLENE TEREPHTHALATE / [pt] DIAGNÓSTICO DO CANAL DE DISTRIBUIÇÃO REVERSO NA RECICLAGEM DOS RESÍDUOS PLÁSTICOS: POLIESTIRENO E POLIETILENO TEREFTALATODEBORAH FRANCISCO RODRIGUES 12 April 2004 (has links)
ambientais e a crescente sensibilidade ecológica, com a
propagação do conceito do desenvolvimento sustentável e
final. Este trabalho pretende apresentar, em linhas
gerais, a logística reversa relacionada à reciclagem de
resíduos plásticos. Para isso, foi diagnosticado o canal
reverso de distribuição da reciclagem dos resíduos
plásticos de Poliestireno e Polietileno Tereftalato,
analisando oito empresas integrantes deste canal no
[en] The accelerated technological development produces an
early obsolescence of the products. With the increase the
number of products with its useful life progressively
smaller, the number of generated residues grows bringing
to the exhaustion the capacity of the tradicional systems
of disposition of residues. Given this scenario,
alternatives are studied for the final destination of the
goods, in order to minimize the resulting environmental
impact. In addition, the legislations concerned with
environmental subjects, the growing ecological sensibility
with the sustainable development and the new beginnings of
environmental protection (like EPR - Extended Product
Responsability) are requiring reduced environment impacts.
In this context, Reverse Logistics is developing processes
to direct the goods back to production, whenever possible,
or to final destination. This work intends to present in
general lines the reverse logistics related to recycling
plastics residues. This work has diagnosed the reverse
distribution channel in the recycling of plastic residues
of Polystyrene and Polyethylene Terephthalate. Eight
companies located in the State of Rio de Janeiro which
operate in this channel have been chosen for interviewing.
In addition, two other companies have been included in the
research, one located in the State of São Paulo, and
recycling PET, was evaluated through the Internet, and
another operating with a new type of automatic collection
was evaluated through published reports.
