[pt] O presente estudo tem como objetivo pesquisar a relação entre travestis moradores do Rio de Janeiro e as religiões cristãs, umbanda, candomblé, budista, espírita e wicca. Para isto, foram entrevistadas travestis de diversas idades. Esta pesquisa também procura confirmar quais formas de violência e exclusão são vítimas; além de quais locais e redes sociais estão inseridas, além da pista, pois nesta também sofrem violência física e, em alguns casos, encontram a morte. Este estudo tenta averiguar se o espaço religioso pode ser uma possibilidade em que haja a inclusão das travestis, podendo possibilitar um aumento em sua autoestima. / [en] The aim of the present study is to research the relationship between the transvestites living in Rio de Janeiro and christian, umbanda, candomble, buddhist, spiritualist and wicca religions. In order to achieve this, transvestites from several ages were interviewed. This research also aims to find out the kinds of violence and exclusion they are victims of; discover the places and social networks they belong to, aside from the scope of ‘the streets’, where they also suffer physical violence and, in some cases, meet death. This study tries to find out if religion can be a place in which there is inclusion for the transvestites, making it possible to improve their self-esteem.

[pt] A presente dissertação tem como objetivo principal identificar as possíveis demandas de travestis e transexuais face à implementação de políticas públicas, especialmente as de Assistência Social e Saúde. Trabalhar com essa temática é importante para aprofundar uma reflexão acerca das identidades de gênero e possibilitar debates sobre direitos, em especial, os direitos à saúde e assistência social para esse segmento. Entende-se por identidade de gênero a constituição individual do eu, a partir do seu auto-reconhecimento psico-emocional definido através do gênero masculino/feminino, podendo ou não corresponder com ao sexo atribuído à pessoa no momento do seu nascimento. Para tanto, realizou-se uma pesquisa de abordagem qualitativa e utilizou-se a metodologia de História Oral, que permitiu uma aproximação de pessoas travestis e transexuais, que expressaram suas vivências, relações familiares, discriminações e a relação delas com as políticas sociais, bem como evidenciaram o despreparo de profissionais na área de Saúde e Assistência Social e a ausência de programas e ações que atendam a suas demandas específicas. As travestis e transexuais são um segmento da sociedade estigmatizado e negligenciado pelas políticas públicas, cujo cotidiano é marcado por discriminação, exclusão e violência, que influencia na construção e formação da própria identidade. Portanto, faz-se necessário uma interlocução entre a Política Nacional da Saúde e da Política Nacional de Assistência Social com as demais políticas sociais, para efetivar e garantir direitos e para que todos os cidadãos e cidadãs sejam reconhecidos independentemente da sua identidade de gênero. / [en] This thesis aims at identifying the possible demands of transvestites and transsexuals regarding public policies implementation, especially those related to social care and health. Working on this subject is important in order to reach a deeper reflection on gender identity and to enable debates about special rights related to health and welfare for that segment. It is understood by gender identity, the individual formation of the myself from your self-understanding by the male/female gender, which may or not correspond to the real sex of the person at the time of their birth. As such, a qualitative research, based on the methodology of oral stories, was carried out based on transsexuals were allowed to express their experiences, family relationships, discrimination and related social policies. They also revealed the unpreparedness of professionals in the health and welfare areas and the lack of programs and activities that fulfill their specific demands. Transvestites and transsexuals are stigmatized by the society and neglected by public policies. Their daily life is characterized by discrimination, exclusion and violence, which also influences the construction and formation of their own identity. Therefore, it is required a dialogue among the National Policies for Health, the National Policies for Welfare and other social policies to ensure that the rights of all citizens are recognized regardless of their gender identity.
