[en] IS GOD FOR EVERYONE?: TRANSVESTIES, SOCIAL INCLUSION AND RELIGION / [pt] DEUS É PARA TODOS?: TRAVESTIS, INCLUSÃO SOCIAL E RELIGIÃOLUIZ ALBERTO FARIA RIBEIRO 27 January 2010 (has links)
[en] The aim of the present study is to research the relationship between
the transvestites living in Rio de Janeiro and christian, umbanda,
candomble, buddhist, spiritualist and wicca religions. In order to achieve
this, transvestites from several ages were interviewed. This research also
aims to find out the kinds of violence and exclusion they are victims of;
discover the places and social networks they belong to, aside from the
scope of ‘the streets’, where they also suffer physical violence and, in
some cases, meet death. This study tries to find out if religion can be a
place in which there is inclusion for the transvestites, making it possible to
improve their self-esteem.

[en] I HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE AMAPÔ: THE TRAJECTORIES OF TRANSVESTITES AND TRANSSEXUALS FACE IMPLEMENTATION OF PUBLIC POLICIES ON SOCIAL CARE AND HEALTH / [pt] TENHO O DIREITO DE SER AMAPÔ: AS TRAJETÓRIAS DE TRAVESTIS E TRANSEXUAIS FACE À IMPLEMENTAÇÃO DAS POLÍTICAS PÚBLICAS DE ASSISTÊNCIA SOCIAL E SAÚDELUIZA CARLA CASSEMIRO 28 December 2010 (has links)
[en] This thesis aims at identifying the possible demands of transvestites and
transsexuals regarding public policies implementation, especially those related to
social care and health. Working on this subject is important in order to reach a
deeper reflection on gender identity and to enable debates about special rights
related to health and welfare for that segment. It is understood by gender identity,
the individual formation of the myself from your self-understanding by the
male/female gender, which may or not correspond to the real sex of the person at
the time of their birth. As such, a qualitative research, based on the methodology
of oral stories, was carried out based on transsexuals were allowed to express their
experiences, family relationships, discrimination and related social policies. They
also revealed the unpreparedness of professionals in the health and welfare areas
and the lack of programs and activities that fulfill their specific
demands. Transvestites and transsexuals are stigmatized by the society and
neglected by public policies. Their daily life is characterized by discrimination,
exclusion and violence, which also influences the construction and formation of
their own identity. Therefore, it is required a dialogue among the National Policies
for Health, the National Policies for Welfare and other social policies to ensure
that the rights of all citizens are recognized regardless of their gender identity.

[pt] AS ESTRATÉGIAS DE SOBREVIVÊNCIA E VISIBILIDADE DA COMUNIDADE LGBTI+ NO RIO DE JANEIRO DE 1950 A 1990 OU O ANACRONISMO COMO POTÊNCIA / [en] THE SURVIVAL AND VISIBILITY STRATEGIES OF THE LGBTI+ COMMUNITY IN RIO DE JANEIRO FROM 1950 TO 1990 OR ANACHRONISM AS POWERRODRIGO FAOUR TEIXEIRA 01 August 2024 (has links)
apagados. / [en] This thesis brings to light stories that were previously silent, forgotten, underestimated or seen from new perspectives about the LGBTI+ scene in Rio de Janeiro from the 1950s onwards, when homosexuals (males) began to be morenoticed (and not just pointed out) in the city s public space, at the time of the costume contests at the carnival balls in Praça Tiradentes. From then on, we sought to map the main living spaces, events, customs, tastes and cultural codes of this community that made Rio a very gay metropolis from the 1950s to the 1980s, at the forefront of the topic in Brazil. All of this based on testimonies from prominent personalities, activist pioneers, but also anonymous characters whose stories are equally representative, in addition to abundant documentation including that of the normative press and the nascent gay press. In the midst of a hostile, extremely moralistic and homophobic context, including persecution and various stigmas, such testimonies show the capacity for resistance and overcoming of gays, lesbians, transvestites, transformers, transsexuals and bisexuals from Rio or who chose the city to live. A population that managed, despite everything, to fervently exercise its way of being during this period and is alive to tell and celebrate submerged details of a history that until then were at risk of being erased.
