O ator dialético / The dialect actor.

A presente pesquisa consiste no relato reflexivo de vinte anos de trabalhos como ator na Companhia do Latão, grupo teatral paulistano fundado em 1997. A análise se estende às visões dos demais intérpretes que integraram e integram esse coletivo cênico, cujo cerne é o aprendizado para uma atuação dialética. Tendo como fundamento as poéticas atorais de Constantin Stanislavski e Bertolt Brecht, minha escrita filtrou todas as produções espetaculares da Companhia, no sentido de apontar uma possível apropriação dos legados do dramaturgo alemão e do ator e diretor russo. E o que foi mais importante: de que modo propusemos nossos próprios meios pedagógicos, estéticos, políticos e técnicos nas salas de ensaios e apresentações públicas, para lidar tanto com textos estabelecidos por autores como Bertolt Brecht e Heiner Müller quanto os que foram criados pelo grupo. Orientei-me pelas minhas memórias, pelas publicações editadas pelo grupo, através dos depoimentos que colhi junto aos meus consortes, adicionando bibliografias sobre atuação, nacionais e estrangeiras. O resultado dessa interseção aponta para o levantamento de recursos e conceitos teatrais, indicando uma interpretação dialética no Brasil que, de forma alguma, encerra-se com este trabalho. / The present research comprises a reflective account of twenty years of work as an actor in the Companhia do Latão, which is a theater group from São Paulo founded in 1997. The analysis extends to include the perspectives of other interpreters who have been part of, or continue to be part of, this theatre collective, whose core work is in learning for dialectical performance. Taking as a basis the original poetic writings of Constantin Stanislavski and Bertolt Brecht, my own writing has explored all the theatrical productions of the Company in order to point out a Brazilian appropriation to the legacies of the German playwright and the Russian actor and director. More importantly, the question was in how we proposed our own pedagogical, aesthetic, political, and technical methods in the rehearsal rooms and in public presentation, to deal with both the established texts by authors such as Bertolt Brecht and Heiner Müller, and those which were created by the group. I went through my memories, publications edited by the group, and the testimonials that I collected together with my colleagues, adding bibliographies on acting from Brazil and other countries. The result of this sythesis points to a collection of resources and theatrical concepts, indicating a dialectical interpretation in Brazil, a work which is in no way yet completed with this work.

This monograph gives a synchronistic and diachronistic account of the present-day dialect of the Vallee d'Aure in the Frenoh department of the Hautes-Pyrenees. The territory investigated includes the higher and lower portions of the basin of the Neste (Weste d'Aure and Neate proper) and the subsidiary valley of T. Jouron (Neste de Lour-on). After a short introduction, the monograph deals with the Phonology, Morphology and, Vocabulary of the dialect and compares a study of the Linguistic Geography of the area under investigation. The text is accompanied by 14 maps and is followed by an extensive Index-Glossary of the patois with etymological notes.

Effect of Speaker Age and Dialect on Listener Perceptions of Personality

The association between dialect and perceived personality traits has been studied for a number of years. The purpose of this study was to examine how the dialect, the gender of both the speaker and the listener, and the perceived age of the speaker affected the listeners' perception of the speaker's personality. The spontaneous speech samples were drawn from existing corpora. There were 48 speakers, 24 New Zealanders and 24 Utahns. Each dialect group was stratified into three age groups (young, middle, older), and within each age group there were an equal number of males and females. The listener group included 40 adults aged 18-30, 20 females and 20 males. The listeners used a computerized visual analog scale to rate the samples on four personality traits: credibility, confidence, prestige, and pleasantness. They also estimated the age of each speaker. Statistical analysis demonstrated that there were several significant differences in how listeners rated the speakers. Main effects of speaker dialect, speaker age, and speaker and listener gender were observed in age estimation as well as personality perception. The results suggest that listeners' perceptions of personality traits are influenced by the speaker's age, dialect, and gender. Additionally, male and female listeners differed significantly on several measures. The findings of this study demonstrate that speaker dialect and listener gender can influence listener perceptions.

<p>Since time immemorial, various governments in China have attempted to promulgate writing reforms and speech reforms in order to unite the nation, mostly for political gain. The aim of this paper is to discover and analyze some language issues in the People’s Republic of China, specifically attitudes and comments on spoken usage of Putonghua (also called Modern Standard Chinese), Shanghai dialect, Cantonese and English by researching China Daily’s online newspaper article archive. A few valid articles could be retrieved and they uncovered that Putonghua, Shanghai dialect and Cantonese are all considered prestigious in different regions of the country; furthermore, English is gaining support rapidly, especially in corporate China.</p>

This work deals with verb inflections in a Finnish dialect spoken by descedants of Finnish-speaking settlers in northern Sweden. The dialect has been given the name Jukkasjärvi Finnish, as the main area where it is spoken lies within the parish of Jukkasjärvi. Jukkasjärvi Finnish belongs to the Vittangi Finnish dialect group within the principal Torne-Finnish dialect, the use of which extends along both sides of the Swedish-Finnish border. The documentation of the dialect is based on the language spoken by older people, as younger people are with increasing frequency using Swedish for their spoken language. The linguistic material has been collected by means of direct questioning, tape recordings and questionnaires. In the documentation, the principles for Keruuopas by Terho Itkonen and others have been used. In this study the dialect is compared with standard Finnish. The result of the investigation shows that Jukkasjärvi Finnish has the following characteristics: short vowels in endings, low frequency of gemination, syllable contraction, roots as the infinitive forms of contracted verbs, and to a certain extent analogical formations. An earlier influence from Saamish (Lappish) can also be discerned. The negation system in Modern Egyptian Colloquial Arabic does not follow an obvious set of rules. The particle that negates most verbal predicates also negates nominal predicates, and the particle that negates most nominal predicates also negates verbal predicates. By examining the behavior of these particles over time and comparing them to negation systems in other languages, it is possible to see the reasons for this complicated negation system. / text
