For both, performs a qualitative research of interlocution between psychoanalysis and art, which unfolds in five stages:1. A history of the theorized about the melancholy of antiquity to modernity. 2. The melancholy in Freud, since their first approximations of the theme in the letters and drafts, who directs the then friend Fliess until the formalization conceptually undertaken in test Mourning and melancholy, not if I leave aside the additional considerations made in subsequent texts. 3. The Melancholy from theoretical considerations developed by Jacques Lacan regarding the constitution of the subject since the stadium of the mirror until the formalization of object a, passing by re-reading of Lacan testing of Freud in different moments of his teaching, his articulation of melancholy to pain to exist from Buddhism and culminating in the meeting of elements that allow to situate melancholy while clinical type of psychosis. 4. The relationship between melancholy, capitalism and social bond through the critique of the capitalist economic system operated by Benjamin, the theorizing of capitalist discourse as an offshoot of the discourse of the master proposed by Lacan, theorists who think the implications of this speech to the subjectivity of the subject in contemporary times without giving up the factors that count as the psychic structure, including Sidi Askofaré , Pacheco Filho and Vladimir Safatle, and joints to be made between the capitalist discourse and the outside-the-discourse of psychosis. 5. The reading of the melancholic expression, both regarding the psychic implications as social, in the work of painter Munch, aiming to take it as index of contemporary society. "Never will people understand that my paintings were created from seriousness and suffering" (Munch apud Tojner, 2004). It is concluded that such seriousness and suffering, however, served as an upholstery for him to go beyond his Art, marking how this way can act both in favor of the structural implications of the melancholic in the loop and the difficulties accentuated by the capitalist discourse.

Research and “Parody in carnivalization Songbook Chico Buarque” investigates aspects parodic and carnival present in the repertoire of Chico Buarque, emphasizing Carnivalization initially as a medieval cultural practice, based on the theories of Mikhail Bakhtin, about Mardi Gras Medieval and Renaissance analyzed in the work of François Rabelais, propositions developed in the book The popular culture: in the Middle Ages and Renaissance. In this analysis, this study highlights the main constituent elements of carnival rituals: 1)dialogism between popular discourse and poetic discourse, since all communication is a reciprocal action; 2)the carnivalesque ambivalence of language that prevail for establishing the connection between the positive and negative poles for the birth-death cycle; 3)laughter and their meanings and complexities of accomplishments ranging from the ingenuity and satire, and finally; 4) the parody that incorporates all the elements cited above for its realization. From the apprehension of these concepts will also outline a brief historical overview to understand the many facets of artistic Chico Buarque and its relation to social life in order to see it through its social production as a lyric poet. And to prove the importance of universal carnival culture, emphasizing the Brazilian culture, the songs has more samba (1964), Dream of a Carnival (1965), Tomorrow, nobody knows (1966), Night of the masked (1966), Wheel Jellyfish (1967), She desatinou (1968), While You (1970), When the carnival there (1972) and will pass (1984) will be analyzed in a comparative setting carnival contemporary and medieval carnival, noting the consensus and dissent which are still part of this popular festival. This assessment, this study highlights the importance of the work of Chico Buarque by this cultural and poetic value in all its artistic activities. The Complexities of Translation: Theories and Practicalities

Ferguson, Alice 05 May 1993 (has links)
What are the difficulties involved in transferring a work of literature from one language to another, and what contributions might an analysis of the translation of a literary work make to the field of translation studies? These questions are explored in this thesis through the exploration of translation theories in general, and the analysis of one particular case with consideration of the theoretical implications it presents. The case study involves the comparison of the novel Gouverneurs de la rosee, written in 1944 by Haitian author Jacques Roumain, with Masters of the Dew, the translation by Mercer Cook and Langston Hughes which was published in 194 7. This novel and its translation were chosen because of the additional layer of complexities presented by the original text's portrayal of the Haitian culture and the attempt by the translator to render it accessible to the target audience, which was America in the 1940's. As an introduction, the importance and the complexities of translation are highlighted: an examination of the possibilities and shortcomings of . machine translation provides ample evidence of both. Chapter II outlines a brief history of the practice known as translation including its origins and evolution, as well as an overview of some of the controversy surrounding translation theory. In Chapter III the lives and works of the author and translator, Jacques Roumain and Langston Hughes, are presented in order to show that, in spite of their significantly different cultures and upbringings, the two men developed similar political and social views. This gave each an especially keen understanding of the beauty and importance of the other's work, and thus a similar theoretical standpoint. It is shown that, for these reasons, Langston Hughes was exceptionally well qualified to translate the extraordinary work of Jacques Roumain. Jacques Roumain's Gouverneurs de la rosee is a principal work of Haitian literature in that - in words and spirit - it embodies the Haitian experience. For this reason, it provides an especially interesting subject for the study of translation. In order to better appreciate the scope of the task undertaken by Hughes and Cook, an overview of the origins and features of Gouverneurs de la rosee is presented in Chapter IV: the plot, images and messages of the novel are outlined, and the techniques used by Roumain to create its distinctly Haitian "flavor" are highlighted. The social significance of the work is considered, an appreciation of which is essential to accurately assess the success of its translation. Chapters V and VI examine the similarities and dissimilarities between Roumain's novel and Hughes' and Cook's translation. In Chapter V, the emphasis is on the form and structure of the texts (i.e. narrative style, syntax, foreign words, etc.), whereas in Chapter VI, the focus is on poetic language (i.e. metaphors, alliterations, and rhythms). In both chapters, the effects of the choices made by the translators are analyzed. Finally, conclusions are drawn regarding the lessons to be learned from this case in particular which might be applied to the art of translation in general.
