Lima, Paulo Correa, 1957- 22 April 1993 (has links)
Orientador: Oswaldo Luiz Agostinho / Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Engenharia Mecanica / Made available in DSpace on 2018-07-18T09:49:36Z (GMT). This work proposes a model for Finite Scheduling based on fuzzy logic. Initially, it presents the actual state of the art in Production Scheduling Systems. The main characteristics of the Scheduling systems are defined and the main paradigms utilized for problem solution are presented. Are they: industrial practices, scheduling theory, simulation, artificial intelligence and finite scheduling. Later, the basic ideas about the use of fuzzy logic in decision systems are presented. Even the existence of a complex formal base supporting its use on decision support system, this work just presents the necessary parts for the understanding of the theory of decision support systems based on fuzzy logic. The model proposes two hierarchical levels for Finite Scheduling based on fuzzy logic. The resource allocations and sequencing levels of the proposed model are described. For the sequencing leveI it discusses the sequencing process, the utilized criteria, and the decision making system. The membership functions and the role base are defined. Finally, it presents the production environment in which the system was implemented. The technological criterion for this environrnent is characterized. The computational aspect of the system implementation is described, with emphases on man/machine interfaces. The results presented by the Finite Scheduling based on fuzzy logic is compared with the scheduling based on two conventional roles and with the scheduling that was effective realized on the factory floor. The results evidence the good performance of the Finite Scheduling based on fuzzy logic, with enfasys on a improved ponderation between the persecuted objectives / Doutorado / Doutor em Engenharia Mecânica

An Analysis of Form and Tonality in Arnold Cooke's Sonata for Oboe and Piano (1957)

Polk, Kristin Marie 05 1900 (has links)
Arnold Cooke composed many works for oboe including two sonatas, a concerto and several pieces for chamber ensembles; however, his works are rarely performed. Through the analysis of form and tonality in his first oboe sonata, Cooke's musical style and influences become apparent. His musical style was primarily influenced by his teacher, Paul Hindemith, and can be characterized by traditional forms with the contemporary use of quartal harmonies and a variety of tertian sonorities. Cooke wrote music that is accessible for performers and audience members, and one way he achieved this accessibility is through the repetition of melodic ideas. In addition to exact melodic repetition, he also unified his works through fugue-like passages and sequences. Although he lived during a time of experimentation by many composers, Cooke maintained conservative elements in his music that he learned through his studies at Cambridge and through his studies with Hindemith. His first oboe sonata is tonal although he varied modes and used chromatic harmonies throughout. Cooke's clear writing and unique sound in his Sonata for Oboe and Piano (1957) provide oboists a solo piece for the repertoire that demonstrates a modern approach to the traditional style of composition.

A Study of the Artistic Philosophy of Mahonri Mackintosh Young

Swensen, Albert John 01 January 1971 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of this study was to determine Mahonri M. Young's philosophy of art as recorded in his personal writings and the writings of his contemporaries—particularly his close friend, Jack Sears. Magazines, books, newspapers, and miscellaneous unpublished materials such as letters, theses, scrapbooks and personal papers were examined for the purpose of becoming more familiar with the character and personality of Mahonri Young. From these sources of information the following was attempted: (1) to record anecdotes and experiences which may have had some significance on the development of his philosophy, (2) to glean from his own writings his feelings and attitudes towards art and artists, and (3) to categorize his basic ideas and determine his philosophy.Mahonri M. Young was an excellent teacher of sculpture, drawing, and etching and helped pioneer the modern realist movement to America. Stressing the importance of good draftsmanship, he disliked the modern art trends and favored those artists who emphasized human characterization. He preferred painting and sculpting genre scenes and became famous for his laborers, cowboys, and prizefight objects.
