Magister Philosophiae (Land and Agrarian Studies) - MPhil(LAS) / The thesis examines continuity and change in the agrarian history of the Mwenezi District, southern Zimbabwe since 1980. It analyses agrarian reforms, agrarian practices and development initiatives in the district and situates them in the localised livelihood strategies of different people within the Dinhe Communa Area and the Mangondi resettlement Area in Lieu of the Fast-Track Land Reform Programme (FTLRP) since 2000. The thesis also examines the livelihood opportunities and challenges presented by the FTLRP to the inhabitants of Mwenezi.The thesis contributes to the growing body of empirical studies on the impact of Zimbabwe's ongoing land reform programme and to debates and discourses on agrarian reform. / South Africa

Detecto em sua teorização uma tensão que revela um conflito flutuando entre a admissão da provisoriedade da tradução e a elaboração de construtos para controlá-Ia, pela tentativa de limitação da intervenção do tradutor, supostamente isento em relação ao seu objeto, a língua. Proponho uma leitura da trajetória e dos compromissos teóricos de Aubert, a partir do seguinte recorte: um perfil geral da sua reflexão teórica, abrangendo várias áreas de atuação; o modelo integral, que inclui a abordagem lingüística, a cultural e as "(In)Fidelidades da Tradução", quando o autor propõe redimensionar o papel tradicionalmente atribuído ao tradutor e à tradução; e a encenação da resistência da . tradução à sistematicidade em Aubert, analisada através do double bind. A dimensão desconstrutivista mostra que a tradução, através da língua, é necessária e impossível e que o tradutor, ao traduzir, não se separa do seu objeto a, língua. Esse duplo endividamento entre o tradutor e o seu objeto revela o double bind, que não se analisa integralmente e deflagra a resistência. Em Aubert, aponto um jogo duplo, em sua reflexão, entre necessidade e impossibilidade, que encena a resistência da tradução à sistematização / Abstract:The main goal of this thesis is to discuss the resistance of translation to the systhematization within a theory. Based on the analysis of the work of Francis Henrik Aubert, I have detected a tension which revels a conflict between his admission that translation is provisional and his attempt to control it, by trying to limite the translator's intervention, supposedly free from his object, the language. I shall propose this study of Aubert's theoretical compromises, guided by the sequence of themes, such as it follows: an overview of his theorization, including the discussion of selected articles dealing with linguistics, terminology, translation and computers, translation and linguistics, cultural translation, translation and the role of the translator, translation and the university. From this study I discuss the modelo integral, which includes the approaches that the author proposes to explain the translation and the role of the translator. And, finally, the resistance of translation to systhematization is discussed, in Aubert's theorization, which is shaken by the double bind. The deconstruction shows that the translation, through the language, is necessary and impossible; and that the translator, while translating, is not ftee ftom his object, the language itself This double commitment between the translator and the language revels the double bind, which can't be totally analysed and provokes resistance. O estudo deste tema no Brasil, entretanto, tem sido intermitente. A relação de causalidade entre a dívida pública e o crescimento econômico, especificamente, tem sido relativamente pouco abordada. Tentando contribuir na compreensão desses aspectos das finanças públicas brasileiras, esta dissertação teve dois objetivos: (1) analisar, na história do Estado brasileiro, a hipótese de causalidade entre a dívida pública e o crescimento econômico, através de metodologia econométrica como testes de Granger, de cointegração e VARs; (2) sintetizar a história da dívida pública brasileira, no sentido de dar um elemento adicional à análise sobre a relação entre a dívida pública e o crescimento econômico, através de uma perspectiva histórica, complementando a análise econométrica feita no primeiro objetivo. Concluímos que, em diversos períodos analisados, há indícios de que variações da dívida pública influenciaram, efetivamente, as variações no crescimento econômico. Além disso, obtivemos resultados que indicaram que estas influências mudaram ao longo do tempo, e que a dívida pública interna e a dívida pública externa afetaram o crescimento econômico de maneira distinta em cada período. Entre outras conclusões, entendemos que variações da dívida externa do setor público (DESP) determinaram variações do PIB no período de 1965-2004, mais especificamente no período 1965-1985. A dívida interna da União (DIU) influenciou o crescimento econômico no período 1900-1964, sendo que a causalidade foi mais claramente identificada entre os anos de 1938 e 1964. / Mestre

Assistive technologies can aid in removing many of the barriers that students with disabilities face in today's classroom. This study addressed special educators' perceptions of the facilitators for the successful implementation of assistive technology devices, skills and knowledge, and need for professional development. A self reporting questionnaire was designed to collect data. The questionnaire was mailed to 1164 special educators in southwestern Virginia. Educators reported that funding, time, technical assistance, assistive technology awareness and knowledge, professional development opportunities, and administrative support were highly important facilitators to the successful implementation of assistive technology. Special educators revealed an average level of skills and knowledge and need for professional development on 25 out of 27 assistive technology competencies. Furthermore, educators reported a preference for professional development opportunities in group settings that involved hands-on learning experiences. / Ed. D.

Studying movement, through the design and development of a narrow residential site with access from water and land at opposing ends. Utilizing parallel planes, connect three zones of the site and maximizing directional views along its length, while formulating an architectural language of path and passage. The façade design is a layering of fixed and active colored glass planes to allow dominate parallel wall, to run through the site without the obstruction of frames. Active glass planes rotate along horizontal and vertical axis and connect the interior and exterior living spaces. Glass façade design led to development of a hinging mechanism to provide rotational movement at various opening increments and locking points, while incorporating it into the fixed glazing system. / Master of Architecture

Notion séculaire, la responsabilité morale se retrouve régulièrement au cœur des débats éthiques contemporains. Le sens et la pertinence de cette notion sont, aujourd'hui plus que jamais, contestés. En se tournant vers l'enseignement d'Aristote, ce travail cherche à dégager les éléments conceptuels et argumentatifs d'une articulation philosophique de la responsabilité morale. Le texte de l'Éthique à Nicomaque, au livre III, chapitres un à huit, offre un développement adéquat pour un tel traitement. Après avoir identifié les conditions d'imputabilité de l'action et les critères permettant d'affirmer que certains actes appartiennent en propre à la sphère morale, le présent travail cherche à dégager de l'enseignement aristotélicien les éléments permettant de rendre compte de la responsabilité morale. Sur la base de cet examen, il est possible de conclure qu'il existe bel et bien un modèle aristotélicien de la responsabilité morale.

Un système informatique a été développé pour centraliser la cueillette et le traitement des données provenant de la plate-forme protéomique du CHUL (Centre Hospitalier de l'Université Laval). Les informations sont saisies à l'aide d'interfaces web générées en PL/SQL, ou cueillies par des scripts Perl et des macros en VB (Visual Basic). Toutes ces données sont sauvegardées dans une base de données Oracle installée sur un serveur Unix. L'engin de recherche Mascot (Matrix Science), utilisé pour l'identification des protéines, est intégré au système. Ce dernier a grandement réduit le temps dédié à la manipulation des données et à leur analyse, augmentant ainsi la productivité de la plate-forme. La versatilité du système permet l'intégration de nouveaux algorithmes d'analyse de données provenant de divers instruments, ainsi que l'intégration des résultats d'autres plate-formes telles les micropuces, le SAGE, l'hybridation in situ et le QRT-PCR.

L'esprit humain abstrait et isole les parties d'un sujet pour les examiner, en déduire les conclusions et les vérités. Cette réaction est appelée réductionnisme et permet de connaître et de faire avancer la connaissance. Par contre, l'esprit en vient à négliger la globalité du sujet et cette tendance à réduire crée un problème d'esprit d'abstraction. Notre société s'est laissée aveugler par les sciences et les techniques au point d'en oublier les valeurs et le sens de la vie. L'abstraction a pour effet de rendre l'homme paresseux intellectuellement puisqu'il n'est plus formé à penser par lui-même mais à se fier à l'avis de spécialistes. Ce mémoire examine ce qu'est le réductionnisme ainsi que ses différentes formes afin de le repérer dans le monde qui nous entoure. Il en étudie les conséquences afin de proposer des solutions à ce problème qui tend à devenir un danger important au 21e siècle.
